I always used to love P&O, but one thing I did absolutely hate was the 'great british sailaway' parties. I am sure I am very, very, much in the minority here, but please don't come near me with a plastic union jack flag to wave around whilst singing Vera Lyn songs - I really will hurt you :D
Lou
They have songs as modern as those from Vera Lynn? Wow, on my Aurora cruise they expected us to sing WWI songs. Now I can't remember WWII, let alone the first one!

Go for it. Pick Deck 8 and not above the pub. I had a PR on both Independence and Adventure and loved them both.
-
And to cap it all, I saw Mamma Mia in London with the original cast waayyyy back!
-
You can also get a corkscrew from your stateroom attendant.
Just buy screwtops, don't need a corkscrew then!! That's what I did in September.
-
I have to say I have not heard anything about Aurora going for a refit although Arcadia is going to have one at about that time. Is that where the confusion has come.
She is supposed to be going in for a refit around December 2014. That's when it's rumoured that the library will go and a new pay restaurant takes it's place.

unless you were underaged or obviously intoxicated that should be considered a crime against humanity. did they give a reason WHY they would not serve you?
Because Guinness is horrible and they were saving him from himself??
-
We were on her all of September and she was fine, what have you done to her.
I was on her in January, and she definitely needed sprucing up. I'm glad to see that it'll happen before my next cruise on her.

Did you see the new RCI ship on the lunchtime news, due for launch just after Britannia and to replace Independence (according to the BBC).
Targetting younger people!
I ain't ain't young and I'll be sailing on the Anthem. Can't wait :)
-
All the RCI ships I've sailed on from UK had kettles in the room. And Tetley tea bags.

Some of the Sailaways on this years Aurora world cruise were dire. 1st World War songs? I know the average age on board was fairly old, but please!! Having said that there were some great ones too. YMCA in Japanese, magic :)
-
Excellent! Thanks a lot. Just a couple of months to go. Can't wait :)

I'm not happy about it. On my last (only) P&O cruise the vegetables were a really odd selection most days. parsnips (ugh), squash (ugh) and courgettes (ugh). At least I was able to stop them serving me with the ones I don't like. And their selections didn't always go with the main. Chicken curry and roast potato anyone?

That's good to know, I don't think I'd like to be seen drinking Horlicks in a public place! :)
The Horlicks in Cafe Bordeaux earlier this year was so watery, we all stuck with the hot chocolate!!

I hired a car from MK to Southampton in January. It was a Corsa I rented, although I was given an upgrade to a C'eed at the depot. Cost about £35 for a day's hire and £50 one way fee. It was well worth it and I intend to repeat the exercise on my next long cruise. After all can't leave a car in a car park for nearly 4 months

I prefer Worcestershire myself. ;)
Pronounced woostersher and not woostershyer I hope :D

At Breakfast if you want a Non Alcoholic Bloody Mary ask for Tomato Juice,Tobasco Sauce and Horshradish and pepper. If there is Wooster Sauce ask for it as well. Makes for a great drink.
Wooster sauce? As in Jeeves and Wooster? I'd recommend Worcester sauce personally!! ;)

Ditto to the pumpkin....and Fanta is a type of orange squash and it's definitely carbonated! Yes, thank goodness for CC or I could have bought a pointless soda package.....maybe it should be renamed the coke package for us Aussies? But then again we'd probably think with that would come any other coca cola brand products (sprite, mountain dew, fanta etc)......back to the ultimate drinks package for me!
Sent from my GT-I9100T using Forums mobile app
Fanta's not classed as squash in the UK. Squash is a sort of cordial or fruit drink diluted with water.
-
See, to an American, THIS is "orange squash":
In the UK, orange squash is a concentrate that is diluted with water. It certainly doesn't look like that!, nor is it carbonated. :) I like our squash, but I hate the vegetable/fruit(?) squash.

I had a wine package and the sticker wore off, or at least the printing did. One bartender thought I had a soda package, so gave me a free coke one night!

I doubt anything was aimed at the sailboat from the Pearl, except maybe a fire hose. According to one of the episodes of Cruise Ship Diaries, it is against the law to have weapons onboard a cruise ship. They are trained to use the fire hoses as weapons if necessary but they do not actually carry any arms onboard.
I sailed through 'Pirate Alley' in March and we boarded 3 armed guards off Sri Lanka and they stayed with us until we reached Eqypt. There were also a lot of fire hoses attached the side of the Promenade Deck.

Nice comeback! :) I love it.
Even "dear" is a bit of a stretch. If no one under 100 uses "darling", the threshold for "dear husband" is probably 85.

Says "darling or dear"
My boss always used to call me darling and I use dear all the time. Neither she nor I are anywhere near our 70's let alone 80's!

The "Britishness" of P&O?
in P&O Cruises ( UK )

The best sailaway, ever, was towards the end of this year's world cruise. Lisbon maybe? They did stuff from every country we visited. YMCA in Japanese! Magic. And yes, I waved my flag and got tipsy lol.
