Astoria does NOT have the facilities to allow disembarkation. The nearest Custom Agents would be in Seattle several hours to the North.
Astoria does have a very small airport but no commercial plane service. Portland, Oregon is 90 plus miles on two lane road to the East.
Postponing jury would be easier. I have done it more than once to be on a cruise.

Right, The Epic and at least The Getaway (probably The Breakaway and The Escape) have no mid ship elevators.
-
It would be a tie between The Jewel and The Getaway.
size to me does not matter- STAFF does.
-
Where can I find travelers photos of the Jewel? im going in a few weeks.
Go to Norwegian's website
Go to ships
Scroll down to The Jewel
Lots of pictures and information available

Your cruise documents should give you the pier number and the street address.
-
(1) When in a US port like LA, you will pay whatever their current sales tax rate is per drink.
(2) On The Jewel's Mexican Rivera cruise, you will have 2 Sea Days and 3 days in port.
How much of that time would you use a Thermal Spa package? are you going off ship in the ports or staying on ship? Based on your answer, then you can decide if the coast of a Thermal Spa package is a good deal for you. I know my answer for me: NO.

I can answer some of your questions:
For dinner, you can eat at any restaurant you wish anytime you wish and there is nor need to dress up, unless you wish. La Bristro ( the French restaurant does say not shorts, flip flops and shirts with collars for men). As a lady I usually wear nice pants and a light weight sweater.
The White Hot Party is offered on Jewel Class ships, not sure about The Epic. It is a late evening party- loud music, disco a degree- required to dress in white NO.
I do not purchase excursions from outside vendors but many do. Great Stirrup Caye is Norwegian's private island. Great time to soak up the sun and relax.
Enjoy, relax and welcome to Norwegian.

Usually they sale bottles of water for you to take off ship by the gangway.

I have a friend who is a staff member on The Jewel and he has been complaining about being cold in Alaska. A couple times they have not been able to go into glaciers very far because of the large ice flows.
I was on The Sun last Fall and love it.
Have a great time.

Yeah we live in NJ and could take NJ Transit in. That actually seems like a decent option. I'll look into that. A can ride from the train station to the pier, short distance? We have our 3 year old son with us, hows that work safety wise? Thanks for the suggestion.
The Breakaway will be berthed at Pier 86 which by my map is between W 47th and W 45th.
Not sure whether you would be using Grand Central Station or Penn Station but neither is very far from the pier.
-
Can you take Amtrak from where you live to NYC? From Penn Station it is a short cab ride to the terminal?
Look into mass transportation options.
Enjoy

The Getaway is heading out for a 2 night cruise, will be back on Sunday for her regular rotation. Just back from the Olympic Games in Rio.

Between Thanksgiving and about the 10th or 11th of December are less expensive. I booked this past January for Christmas week and New Year's Week, both have gone up in price. It is a wonderful time to sail however. Had so much fun last year over Christmas that I am going back this year.

In 30 Norwegian cruises, I have only gained weight twice- 2 pounds both times. I get a lot of walking in on ships much more so than home.

O'Sheehan's is open for breakfast with a limited menu with waiters serving you.
What Seperates NCL from the rest?

I am about to leave home for my 30th Norwegian cruise. What keeps me coming back; STAFF, STAFF, STAFF does not matter if it is a small ship like The Spirit or a big one like The Getaway. I have made so many friends among staff members. Several have become my "Cruise Ship Kids".
