  1. Thanks for the response gator..that would be perfect but I talked to the event coordinator group and they said that there would be no magic show on board.. Were you sailing on the Gem? My other thoughts were some different shows like a game show or such.. My original plan was to propose on a horse back ride through the jungle in samana with a picnic area set up by a waterfall swimming hole.. Unfortunately Norwegian can not take any food off the boat and there is no area for a private picnic

Another thought might be to talk with Michael Blackwell, who plays piano-some nights in the Star Bar across from Cagney's. He could play a special piece of music for you. He is a very nice gentleman.

  2. My thought would be to talk with the Hotel Director Jenny Lim once you are on board. She may have some really great ideas. She is also a very nice lady. If you want to do this privately, do a special dinner somewhere. I am sure that the Food and Beverage Director or the Restaurant Manger could make very special. Best Wishes.

  3. I can tell you this: I have never been to Europe before, done a Transatlantic crossing or done a Maiden cruise. I am doing all three in January on The Getaway. I can not wait. I have not read anything about The Breakaway that would cause me to cancel this cruise. A lot of the opening Senior Officers of The Breakaway will also open The Getaway. The gentlemen on the Bridge are experienced officers. I would go with an open mind and make your own conclusions. Have a wonderful time.

  4. The Getaway has reached another milestone with the conveyance of the River Ems from Papenburg to the North Sea Port City of Eemshaven. More staff will begin to ready in the next few days. Mini Sea Trails are set for the end of next week.. Progress is being made. I can wait for Her Maiden adventure from Southampton to New York City in January, 61 days and counting.

  5. Does anyone know who are the Captain's and Officers and Key Staff on NCL ships, esp now that the Breakaway has taken some from other ships?

That is a really though question. Yes, a number went from other ships to the Breakaway. Now there is another huge shift including from The Breakaway to the Getaway. Different officers have different rotation schedules which makes keeping track more difficult. Captains, Staff Captains and Chief Engineers are 10 weeks on ship 10 weeks off. Some management like Hotel Directors are 4 months on, 2 months off. Others work 6 months on 2 months off. Just like being in the military, every couple of years staff shift from one ship to another.

  6. The webcam says 8 ships in Miami today - NCL has the Star, Pearl, Sun, others are RCI Vision of the Seas, Disney Magic, Carnival Glory, Aidabella, Oceania Regatta (and Bimini Superfast).

Thanks to the camera operator for panning up and down the line for ship lovers. :D

According to CTT the following ships are in Miami today:

    Norwegian Pearl, Star, Sun

    RCCL Vision of The Sea

    Carnival Glory

Disney Magic (the red ship maybe)

I am glad I am NOT there.

  7. I tried to search but didn't find an answer, so hope someone could help. How does the immigration/passport control process take place for non-US citizens when coming back to NY from a Bahamas Breakaway cruise?

My answer is that it depends on the cruise and on the port. Re-positioning cruises- Europe to the States, Panama Canal and some others seem to have the most Immigration checks. I will be on The Getaway in January for Her Maiden Voyage from Southampton to New York City. I would not be surprise to see a full Immigration Check of both passengers and staff when we reach New York City.

  8. We will be cruising on the Jewel in February from New Orleans then hopping on the Carnival Sunshine. Are the ships close enough that we will be able to walk with our luggage? This is our first cruise on NCL...we are excited to try a new line.

    Thank you!! Happy Cruising :)

Usually the Carnival ship is docked directly in front of the Norwegian ship in New Orleans. However they use two different terminals in restricted access areas. I am not sure how easy it would be to go from one to the other. You might want to check with the Port of New Orleans and see what they say.

  9. We found out last week that our son, who is a Sound tech for NCL, is a new Getaway crewmember!!! His last rotation was on the Pride in Hawaii and now he's heading to Germany on Monday to join the Getaway! What an exciting life for a 24 yr old! I can't wait to get details about this beautiful ship. We were considering the Breakaway because we went on the Epic's Eastern Caribbean but now we're leaning toward the Getaway instead! :D

Oh Wow!!! Good for him. What is his name? I will be on The Maiden Crossing from Southampton to New York City in January.

  10. Do not exactly know, but according the the ship builders web site, once the process started it would take 3 hours. I looked to me that She was being pulled out by the tugs. I am not sure if it was just the camera angles or not, but it sure looked like a very tight fit side to side and barely had enough clearance up top.

  11. After a half year "rest" I got the chance to take cruises ship photos again :-) .

My first shots from Norwegian Getaway at day light and evening are here:
