We are booked on the K for December B2B & both re anytime dining . From what we read here seems to be that the lido has even a better selection than the MDR .We are not sure where we will eventually have dinner but ,I do know 3 days will be in the speciality restaurants . Probably need to test the waters one day in the MDR & one day in the Lido & then go from there

Hank you are absolutely correct . We have had the same good fortune ;but ,it takes work to find the good ones .One day we are going to book a high end ocean cruise line to gain the experience that you enjoyed . We have done it on river cruises & imo nothing beats river cruises for food quality , all included tours ,service on board & the crew entertaining us & or specialist the line brings on board Cliff

Hank over many years of sales negotiations i have found that mist travel agents work to line their pockets more than their clients . We have however found one that we book with exclusively & I keep even them in my sights by getting competitive bids .It takes a long time to zero in on a really great TA agency . Usually ,it boils down to a test of time to make a wise selection

what kind of food is served there ? TIA

Holland America Black Friday 2022 deals announced
mcrcruiser replied to Sigyn's topic in Holland America Line
Your cruise must be quite expensive to get those listed perks .You are going through the Panama Canal & those taxes are very high .We did the canal twice full transits with Celebrity ships & our last transit was 2011 when they were adding the new wider longer locks ,We saw them under construction . Mt last cost total for 2 was not more than $3600 in a balcony cabin on Celebrity Infiniti .They even had a deck sale back then & we snared some really great buys .BTW that cruise was 15c days .We did the Transit from Ft Lauderdale to San Pedro Ca . It was April of 2011 when we came out to the Pacific ocean side the water temperature at the surface was 85 degrees because the ship was near to the equator Back then the transit tax was not nearly as high . I believe that the Panamanians are having high taxes to pay for those new wider .longer locks they built .But ,they are making a fortune .Alaska port taxes are also very high .We been there 6 times . Now we sail to Mexico & Hawaii or up the Coast of Calif & back .no more flying .We done it all including cruises t in Europe , Trans Atlantic cruises & to Australia from SD .We love Hawaii cruise now .Good length &wonderful American ports -
On the Solstice Mexico Riviera right now, any questions?
mcrcruiser replied to NutsAboutGolf's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Wonder if any of the restaurants on Soltice have Ahi tuna on any of their menus .Love that tuna -
Interesting because Cruise Ship Deck Plans still shows the Soltice with the Silk Harvest as the restaurant in that area . No worries though if they did remove it we will decide where we want to dine when we are on the ship in March .We are doing B2B ,so we are on Soltice 14 days .Have dined in Tuscan Grill a number of times long ago .now we would find it far too much food ;because we are approaching our mid 80s

What types of food do they serve for lunch & what are the cover charges for the lunch At one time at the light lunch near the indoor pool we could get Ahi tuna .Wondering if the Lawn club serves Ahi tuna or any restaurant on the S class ships

Thanks . Wondering what kind of oriental foods they serve . Perhaps some one had dinner there & can tell us . $55 plus gratuity is a bit steep for any oriental restaurant unless they are serving Kobe beef LOL -
When the Lawn Grill first opened years ago we ate there .;however ,never knew they had a pizza oven . Once lived in NYC & there was no better pizza ever made better than BY pizza made in a brick oven ,Actually ,the entire taste of NYC pizza was all due to the water which is filtered thru granite , now we live in San Diego & had to get used to local pizza tastes

LOL yeah I made a typo ,Happens every so often at 84 . My eyes have blinders on 🤣

Going to puerto vallarta, get ready to tender
mcrcruiser replied to Florida_gal_50's topic in Holland America Line
We have reservations for all 3 restaurants & we plan to pay at the time of service with our 3 star 25% discount . Just wondering if HAL 's acctg dept will acknowledge the discount at the time we dine in these restaurants .We also already know that the 18% gratuities are already included -
In their theatre in the round will there be some different type shows like with singers & dancers .We sail in December & wondering if HAL has changed from the dance routine we saw & BBC movies . TIA
-
Will we be able to find sushi in the buffet on Koningsdam ,at lunch itime & dinner time ? TIA

How are the speciality restaurants handling the Mariner discounts & is their accounting dept accurate with the net price on a persons bill ? Seems to me why do people have to always be concerned with accuracy ,just a added annoyance to a nice relaxing cruise vacation -
Interesting I never saw root beer soda on any HAL ship . I think they had it though on Anthem of the Seas ,a rather large Royal Caribbean ship .That ship had the varied soda machines . RCl has johnny Rockets so they just might be able to do that float there . Also milk shakes & malteds

Although we are Elite Plus , we have not been on a S class ship in a while .now that Soltice is porting in San Pedro (Los angeles county ) California for awhile ,we can sail on her . for those who habe recently sailed on her in the last year or so what areas of the ship do you find more exciting . also how is the entertainment in the main showroom .do they have entertainment elsewhere on the ship as well ? Thanks in advance for your replies 😃

birdie we understand your feelings ;however ,in reality the problems with any virus is if any one on shore or ship has the bug it will travel to others guaranteed. Being vacinnated , wearing the best masks ,staying away from crowds , being properly hydrated , increasing the bodies defenses with 60 mg Zinc, vit,A & C are the best that most people can do to avoid coming down with covid
