  1. I book directly with the cruise line because I have had bad luck with PCCs and TAs, and not willing to try again. My problem was when there is a price drop and booked through an agent only the agent can get you the drop. Ive had occasions when I called my agent and told him of price drop and. he didn't deal with it right away and I lost the opportunity for getting money or credit back. On one price drop I missed getting $450 back and a cabin upgrade. If I made reservation directly I can go to NCL directly and get it. Recently I had a b2b and one segment dropped by $350. When I called the agent not only got that reimbursed but checked the other legs of the trip and got $250 back on other part of b2b.
  2. Off original topic, but... My passport just lists my first and last name, mostly because I wasn't sure what to use as my middle name. When you have a compound first name, like Mary Beth and a middle name, and a maiden name and one or two married names it can get to be tough to decide what name to use, and after a few years trying to remember which middle initial is mine legally I asked my lawyer if I could just use my first and last name on my passport. Since 2008 I just have first and last name on my passport. I have never had a situation where I was required to have a middle name, even though my social security uses my compound first name second part as my middle name and my driver license has maiden name as middle name (original license was before I married, and when I married they added new last name and issued it with first, maiden, and last name). In short, the issue of legal name can be more complex for women who don't keep their birth name as their legal name. And you are not legally obligated to have a middle name.
  3. I spent a month travelling around Spain with my best friend. Although i speak only English my friend is fluent in Spanish, But with just a few basic phrases I've found you can travel throughout Europe. And I've taken trains on solo trips a few times, too. I spent a couple weeks in Lisbon when my son was working there. I use google translate when I'm travelling solo. Of course, like any large metro area common sense precautions to guard your wallet, But I have never felt unsafe. No problems in Portugal, either. In Madrid check out Mercado de San Miguel. Great market. There was a merchant who had the best ceviche I've ever tasted.
  4. I use a website rome2rio dot com to see all options for transportation from place. to place. I've used ii on 4 continents. it makes it easier to se differences in cost and travel times. just google rome2rio and name two places. https://www.rome2rio.com/map/Lisbon/Seville
  5. they have a regular and a decafe. you can get as many pouches as you want, creamers, and sugar, or get milk carton at breakfast to stash in your refrigerator. I'm fussy and like dark roast so I bring my own senseo type coffee pods
  6. If you are traveling solo, you can still bring a guest. I usually find another platinum member at solo meetings and I go as their guest and they go as mine - then you have 4 specialty dinners.
  7. So good to know I can cruise until I'm 150 years old!
  8. Unless we can get a solo sale my best friend and I have shared a cabin on many cruises. My shareholder credit has been given to her many times, even when I'm the primary guest of record. We also have to figure out for ourselves how to split the free at sea credit. Once when I booked an excursion before the cruise that was later cancelled she received the credit back to her credit card (Not my card that paid for the excursion). Because of the convoluted and sometimes irrational bookkeeping system all I can say is keep track of who owes who what, and only share a cabin with someone you trust.
  9. I'm going on a b2b2b2b, 4 -7day cruises, in February. I wasn't planning to bring my laptop, and my vision makes it difficult to complete forms with my phone. On same ship in same cabin throughout. Since I will be on the ship 21 days before the last cruise how do i check in for the last cruise?
  10. Sometimes available, most likely on port days when most people are off ship.
  11. I've done carryon only for years, mostly because I often have train travel before and/or after cruising, and handling luggage gettin on a train is a challenge. I wash all but slacks each night - those I send to the laundry. I have a pre-cruise tip - clothes that you plan on packing - do a trial wash in sink at home and see how they handle it. To exterpolate from there - try washing items you think will be ok, and would send to ship laundry. Wash in warm water and dry on medium heat to see if they can take it (better to ruin it at home where you have more clothing choices to wear). Personally I select travel clothing for washing/drying time/ wrinkling/ color fastness. I've travelled as long as 5 weeks with a carryon, and other than being fairly tired of some outfits never had a problem.

  13. My Experience On a b2b2b all booked individually with separate reservation numbers I completed over 150 during middle cruise. When i went to customer service to get new card at end of cruise 2 I asked about change of status. They directed me to Cruise next, CruiseNext told me to return on the first day of the third cruise. They could and did update my status. I had to go back to customer service to get a new room card with the updated status.
  14. For me it depends on itinerary. I always buy for fall TransAtlantics, but never for Caribbean...for a 7 day Alaska you probably have a lot of port days and few at sea days other than the Glacier Bay sail-thru. Personally I wouldn't get thermal spa on this kind of itinerary.
  15. Of the two options you mention i would do the second, but NCL may not allow the departure city deviation from Paris instead of London. Island2Dweller's recommendation is much more likely to work. If there is any way you can extend your trip by I few more days I'd do it. Both London and Paris are worthy of much more time exploring. I'd consider cancelling the NCL air and fly home independently. I'm on the same cruise and I found Norse Air to be cheaper than NCL with extended stay.
  16. Points I can use at Hilton Gatwick makes price reasonable to stay there. I was thinking of Kew simply because it's one of the few places I haven't visited on my wishlist from two multi-day previous trips to London, but I may save it for another trip, maybe another TA next spring when I may have more time to extend trip . I love gardening and visiting gardens. I think I'll play it by ear and decide how far I want to push on that last afternoon before returning home.
  17. thank you. After careful consideration of the advisability of ruining a perfectly relaxing vacation by rushing last minute I decided to stay overnight near Gatwick. I'm now considering getting the train from there to Kew Gardens for the afternoon, returning in the evening and resting before 1250 departure next day...still planning early departure from ship but no pressure to make connections.
  18. Anyone with experience arriving on TA from NYC to Southampton?? I'm planning on using National Express bus to London. How do I get from pier to bus station? Do I need to prebook bus or can I just get to bus station and catch next bus?

  20. For an American sailing into Southampton, scheduled arrival at 6am. What would be reasonable time to allow self-disembark, clear passport control and customs, and meet driver. I'm trying to see if its likely to make a 1250pm flight from Gatwick on a Sunday morning.

  22. I've occasionally brought another unoccupied chair and joined whoever had "stolen" my table. edge them over and ask them to pass my other stuff.
  23. TA in April. Arr Southampton May 12. Im I likely to make departure from Gatwick for 12:50 flight? Transport recommendations? TIA
  24. If you have previously purchased "Cruise Next" certificates (or whatever prepaid certificates per cruise line)can you use these with a new booking, paying with your credit card - Is the trip insurance still valid? Or do I need to prove the cruise next certificates were also paid for with the same credit card?
