@Sea Viewer sorry you can't get to the hospital right now, but try to busy yourself as best you can.  I reorganized the bathroom cabinets while waiting for visiting hours when DH was in for his major procedure.    Good luck to you, girl!

I started to organize my file cabinet, I'm creating a to shred pile. It is a good thing to do as it's keeping me occupied but not too messy!

  2. Good morning everyone, it's a pleasant 73F here this morning and there are no grey clouds around at the moment.

Spoke to DH this morning, he had a good night and is possibly being discharged this afternoon. I was preparing to go visit him this morning but was told my the nurse not to come at this time as they want to minimize visitors. They will let me know what time I can pick him up or if he's not discharged can visit later. So I'm having a relaxing time waiting for another phone call- NOT.

I would like to talk to the doctor but I guess it will work out. Thank goodness for My Chart where the patient can see test results and upcoming appointments.

Hoping that with the decrease in Covid numbers everyone with upcoming procedures will have a much more normal experience. I'm sure patients have less stress with a family member available.

  3. What a crazy day!! DH is having his procedure now, but as a visitor there is nowhere for me to wait at the hospital. I could have waited in his hospital room but he is being transferred to a different room after the procedure and that has not been assigned yet. It seems the procedure is going to be more extensive than originally planned and will require at least 2 hours in Recovery per the latest update. I was advised my the nurse to go home and wait for a call about the progress. Also if he doesn't get assigned a room before 7pm I will not be able to visit him until 10am tomorrow.

He has procedures at this hospital before and we have never experienced anything like this.

    Covid has really affected everything.

@kazu I have even more respect for how you are handling Jose's medical issues after my comparitivly minor experience.

Thanks everyone for the support, just being there has been very helpful to me.

  4. Good morning everyone, thanks for the good wishes. DH procedure was scheduled for 9 am today and I got to the hospital at 8:30 so I could see him before. When I got here I was told it was rescheduled for 11:30 and I couldn't go in until visiting hours starting at 10. So I'm sitting outside waiting to be granted access. Thank goodness I'm in So Florida and don't have to deal with the terrible weather so many of you are experiencing.

It seems that the procedure will be done today, the waiting and lack of timely communication is the most stressful part of all of this. I'm glad this daily exists, I appreciate the support.

  5. Thanks to everyone for the prayers and good wishes. I'm at the hospital now, possibility of procedure being done this evening so DH has been on a clear liquid diet again which doesn't make him happy! He's looking at cruises to book to cheer himself up.

I managed to get a bedside recliner for him so he's a little more comfortable.

I really feel for the staff in hospitals these days trying to provide care in these Covid times. It seems that by the time patients are admitted they are sicker than BC and many new infection control procedures have been added to their workload.

We had some good news yesterday, DH's angiogram is scheduled for March 7th, so we'll head to the hospital very early in the morning with his overnight bag in hand in the event (totally likely) that they have to insert a couple of stents.  Some of you may wonder why it's taken so long - well, our ICU beds have been taken up with Covid patients, and they have to have a bed available in case it's needed.  Hopefully this is a sign that this darn virus is starting to ease up, or that more people have been vacccinated.  Now that restrictions have been lifted, I will be able to spend the day at the hospital waiting for him, rather than nervously at home.

Good news for you both! I had to take my husband to the ER on Saturday night as he had chest pains, I dropped him off at the door and went to park the car ( no valet parking at hospitals now). By the time I got back to the ER, he had been taken to a room and as there is a no visitor policy in the ER currently I couldn't see him. Due to lack of beds he had to be monitored in the ER until Monday late pm when he had had an angiogram. Due to other medical issues they could not insert the stents at that time. I was finally able to see him Tuesday. Yesterday he was scheduled to have stents inserted and I spent the day in his room with him. At 5pm the cardiology team decided that his other medical condition had not improved enough to do the stenting, so he is now rescheduled for Friday.

The lack of beds and additional procedures due to Covid  definitely has impacted healthcare delivery.

I'm thankful for the care he is getting at the moment and also that he is not considered to be in imminent danger of another heart attack at the moment. Hopefully he can get the procedure on Friday and his chest pain will stop. I just wonder about him not being scheduled for many of his routine tests (echocardiograms, stress tests etc) over the last couple of years due to medical offices only wanting to telehealth visits.

It is definitely better to schedule in advance if possible. Hoping you get a great result from your DH's procedures.

For those who have missed the Carnival board drama. Saturday a rumor started that Spirit would replace Freedom in Alaska. That sent me into panic mode because I only booked that cruise because a 4J room was available. That's like the room I had on Vista in December with the window looking out on the forward deck. That way I can go out on the forward deck. Look out any direction I want to. And quickly return to my room window if I get too cold. Well the problem is Spirit doesn't have 4J rooms. It doesn't have any public forward observation decks. What it does have is 4K rooms which have french doors but a view of life boats. Not what I want in Alaska!

Fortunately the email just came out. It's actually Splendor not Spirit. Yes I'd rather be on Freedom but Splendor is going to be better for me than Spirit because it looks like it has the same number of 4J rooms as Freedom has. So it should be an easy transition assigning me a room.

Now the potential problem is it says there will be an itinerary change. NO Skagaway. Icy Strait Point or Kitla instead. I think I've read Icy Strait point is a good thing but i've never heard of Kitla. Anyone know about either of them? Good Change? Bad Change?

Sitka is a great Port, I stopped there a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

One of the restaurants on the river always plays "Time to say Goodbye"  sung by Bocelli and Sara  Brightman at sunset.  It was so beautiful.  Everyone just stops to listen.

When I cruised on MSC Divina this song was played at every sail away, it was magical sitting on the balcony as the ship left port, especially at sunset.

@grapau27women don’t always get a new name when they marry 😉. Some keep their maiden names.   A tradition I love in the Spanish culture is that the wife keeps her maiden name.   They do add the husband’s name but the wife’s maiden name is even passed down to the children.  Proud to say I upheld that tradition.  I legally have two last names.  Both are on my passport but at work I used my maiden name and socially, DH’s.  When you’ve built a career for many years, you don’t need to get into explanations on a new name 😉

Thank you, that was very nicely stated. I married my husband after I had spent many years in my career, and was well known by my maiden name. I chose to keep it as all my degrees, diplomas and certificates were in my maiden name. In addition my naturalization papers were also in my maiden name.

Many years ago (after marriage) we travelled to Ireland on vacation, I had made all the arrangements and pre-payments. DH was frequently addressed as Mr "my maiden name" which amused him immensely!

  10. Hi everyone,

Go back from our cruise this morning and spent the day unpacking and getting laundry done. The cruise was really relaxing. The passenger count was about 25% so no waits for anything. Its hard to imagine that full passenger counts will be achieved this year based on the cruises I have taken since July 2021. The next few weeks will be filled with doctor visits for DH, and me looking for some more cruises!

My sister is planning on visiting next month and then taking an Oceania TA back to Europe, tempted to join her! Hoping the virus situation continues to improve so I can feel more confident making travel plans. Would like to do Canada/ New England in the fall.

@Sea Viewer Thanks for adding your comments.  It seems like every person who posts on this board sails in Yacht Club.  As someone who typically sails in the cheapest interior cabin I can book (but I "splurged" for a Fantastica balcony for my upcoming Seashore thanks to an FCC to apply), it's nice to read something from someone who is not in Yacht Club.

I'd very much like to read some reviews from non-Yacht Club folks to read about what the rest of us may experience in the MDR and elsewhere.  And how the service is in cabins for those of us who have to do our own unpacking. 😉

Service has been great on this cruise, especially as the numbers are so low. The MDR has essentially been open seating between 6 and 9 which is great. We have had the same table and waitstaff each night. Not sure if this is because of the low passenger count as it's different from other MSC ships I've sailed which have had assigned times.

Out cabin steward is very efficient, even folds the clothes my husband leaves on the couch!! Fresh beach towels every night. I've always been impressed with MSC cabin service, everything is kept very clean.

Hopefully passenger count will increase soon so we can continue to enjoy these ships. It's hard to imagine that at these numbers they can be making a profit. However I'm going to enjoy as many cruises as I can in the next few months.

  12. Hi, I'm also on this cruise (in steerage) and agree that it's a great experience. The staff are amazing and the food is definitely better than on my previous MSC cruises. The ship is very clean with constant cleaning. Mask compliance is enforced, although last night a couple came into the theater after the lights were down and sat down in the no sit seats and took off their masks to sip cokes. They decided to leave after a staff member spoke to them.

I feel fortunate to be able to cruise at this time and feel very safe

  13. Good morning everyone,

I'm currently in Nassau on MSC Seashore enjoying a delicious cappuccino before going to wake my husband. Today is the first day I have internet on this cruise, and I have to say that I really missed checking in each day to catch up with everyone, this forum is wonderful to keep connected with the good and not so good things going on. I feel fortunate to have found it.

@kazu sorry that Marley's blood test showed myeloma, but now you have answers and can enjoy the remaining time you have together.

To everyone else, keep posting and sharing.

Prayers 🙏 for those on the list. And I'll toast the celebrations with some processo ( MSC is Italian after all) this afternoon. 🥂

Thanks Mimi.  Unfortunately, Victoria is 4-10pm.  The gardens sound like a great idea, especially for Micheline who really enjoys that.  I'll need to see when sunset is and what hours they are open.  I'll check out the Fairmont Hotel also.  While we might be too late for afternoon tea, we may be able to get a drink and an appetizer, or even get dinner there rather than on the ship.

We also had a late Victoria visit and did take the ship tour to Buchart. It stayed light fairly late and there were fireworks and classical music concert that evening. I think our tour was last back to the ship! It was well worth it.
