  1. MartinCath - wasn't there the saying that Victoria was the city of the nearly dead and newly wed!
  2. I was on the Jewel a month ago and they had a fairly good supply of them.
  3. Ashland - I think the building you are describing is the Juneau Public Library building - or if not there is a washroom there as I used it on my visit to Juneau recently.
  4. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences about the studio lounges. One further question - how good is the wi-fi in comparison to other areas of the ship.
  5. I will be trying out a studio cabin on my Bliss cruises next March for the first time. I am wondering just how big is the studio lounge and for those of you who have use it just how busy does it get. Dennis
  6. You might want to indicate which US Ports are affected. Does it apply only to California ports but also Seattle.
  7. That post even though it was from 2019 proves our point that you will be able to access Canada Place. In 2019 there was also fireworks in the evening which didn't happen last year and isn't known at this time. "It is expected access and egress could be restricted after approximately 8:00 p.m. July 1st due to crowds and safety issues." Don't the cruise ships usually sail around 4 - 5 PM so that part of the post is irrelevant.
  8. I wasn't sure if it was sulphur or potash so I took a guess - so thanks everyone for posting the correct information.
  9. If the port entrance is closed how do the people get on the ship? Has it even been confirmed that there will be Canada Day celebrations there this year? If so you will access the entrance to Canada Place via Howe Street - the big entertainment stage is just to the west of the entrance to Canada Place - so while busy and crowded you will be able to board the ships in port that day.
  10. There is also a Rexall Drug Store in the Waterfront Food Court across the street from Canada Place and accessible by an underground passage way - don't know if they sell it or not but also a possibility as they seem to have some items for cruisers that I don't see in other of there stores.
  11. It's potash getting ready to be shipped from Vancouver Wharves to somewhere in Asia.
  12. Question for Cruise Along - did you use Hall C in the Convention Center for checking in and were then taken downstairs for security and US Customs and Immigration or did you just go down the ramp into the parkade and proceed from there. Dennis
  13. It was explained to me a week ago on my NCL Jewel cruise that while Ward's Cove is NCL's baby they do let other cruise lines berth there if there is no NCL ships - the problem with the big babies Q of the Seas is that if they dock in Ketchikan they take up 2 berths thereby limiting the number of other ships that can berth that day.
  14. I will post this on this thread as well as your other one which I saw first. I am a marathon volunteer and also a cruiser. There will be about 20,000 runners in the three main categories. The current course DOES NOT GO BY CANADA PLACE. It ends a short distance away on the other side of Burrard Street. Unless you are coming to Canada Place from either the North Shore or East of Burrard you will be alright. Traffic control will be in place as well. If you think 3 ships on Sunday will be a zoo and it likely will be - there are four ships in port tomorrow and it addition to all the cruisers many of the marathons runners will be picking up their race packages in the Convention center which is part of the Canada Place property. Hope this helps Dennis

  16. Marathon volunteer here - as long as you stay east of Burrard you shouldn't have any road closures but traffic will be chaotic - so give yourself some extra time - as other have stated Sky train would be the best option available - it is what I will be using to get to my volunteer position on Sunday. Just a note to those who are also cruising on Friday May 5 and Saturday May 6 - while the roads may not be closed the process of getting upwards of 20,000 runners there race packages takes place at the east Convention Center which is the one located inside Canada Place. Hope this helps Dennis
  17. I am trying to think of any place on the seawall that people have to walk one way - bikes and cars yes but can't think of any place with that restriction for walkers. JUST A NOTE: If anyone is planning on walking the seawall early on May 7th that is the date of the Vancouver Marathon and the seawall will be heavy impacted as both the full and half marathon use the seawall for the race.
  18. If the cannery is located in Port Edward which I think it is - the local bus #60 goes there but it is a very limited service that doesn't run on Sunday or holidays so whether you would have time to fit in a visit and make it back to the ship on time is uncertain. Here's a link to the bus info: https://www.bctransit.com/prince-rupert/schedules-and-maps/alerts?route=60 - this is a better one:https://www.bctransit.com/prince-rupert/schedules-and-maps.
  19. While now living in Surrey I still have my dentist, hearing aid and heart doctor all downtown near St Paul's and I still visit my former employers place called the YMCA a few times a month so that has helped me keep up with the times. Dennis
  20. The Day's Inn was at one time called the Abbotsford Hotel - had a few cold adult beverages there back in my beer drinking days.
  21. MartinCath - "and a Seven-Eleven underneath that sees a lot of shenanigans." There hasn't been a 7 -11 there for several years - when they upgraded the hotel it became history - there is a coffee shop and a place called Burgoo there now. Haven't try it but it has been around for a few years so it must be doing something right.
  22. Just a reminder note that if you are on a NCL ship you won't be docked in town but a few miles out of town at Ward's Cove so you would need to allow extra time to get into town. Believe NCL runs a shuttle into town but won't have that experience myself until later in May. Dennis
  23. There is a promenade that encircles Canada Place which is where both the cruise port and the Pan Pacific are located. Walk to the very end of the promenade to a place called North Point and you will get a very close up view of the ships leaving. The attached photo was taken at the North Point and you should be able to see cruise ships on each side.
  24. MartinCath - isn't the casino named River Rock not Red Rock. Dennis
