  1. I never said I have the answers, I’m telling you I don’t. Neither do you, stop acting like you do. Stop claiming to have done research, for which there are no resources. Unless you are employed in HR or payroll and finance at Royal Caribbean, all you have are opinions and suppositions.
  2. FAR too many assumptions and missing data here to make this the least bit reliable. Randomly filling in missing data points with here-say and hyperbole and then claiming the outcome is somehow accurate.
  3. saying, you would not cruise a particular line for a decade if you remove the tips is indeed paranoid
  4. No one ever said about not getting paid a penny, you can’t revise your post now. Your statement claimed detriment with one’s supervisors. Supervisors that are fully aware that a percentage of people remove the gratuity regardless-why would there be repercussions for that? There aren’t
  5. I don’t have any figures and neither do you; you have fuzzy math that you have derived from even fuzzier public facing documentation provided from the cruise lines, and supposedly some crew (crew that has a vested interest in promoting a POV, and would never be considered a source of indiscriminate information)
  6. Removal of the auto gratuity results in no detriment to the crew member
  7. Then stop paying them; THIS is how the system gets fixed
  8. I wonder if they have those types of discussions on the Virgin boards?
  9. Your figures are even more vague than the cruise lines published gratuity breakdown figures.
  10. More “impossible to quantify” math and financial breakdowns
  11. I would use the term "theme" very loosely. The MDR "themes" are incredibly dis-jointed
  12. The break down is intentionally vague, and one of the reasons I refuse to participate
  13. Yes you can just call I don’t know about the last night, I do it day 2 normally
  14. They don't even ask you why you are opting out of the auto gratuity when you call
  15. NO, the amount the agree to in their contract is the minimum wage guaranteed to seafarers, this amount is regulated and enforced by international convention. They get this amount regardless of the timing situation. Tips are on top of their guarantee.
  16. I was on Allure last week. We had the UDP, we cancelled the auto gratuity (I always do) tipped out room steward, and left a cash tip for the waiter each evening in specialty dining.
  17. I don't care to tip "non customer facing" crew
  18. Who cares? They are there for your convenience, not the other way around
