  1. Thank you. The details you both have provided will help us plan.
  2. Thank you for the information and link. We have not found this information yet. We have a Land tour that is a train from the Whittier Dock to Denali. Please clarify your comment , "No roller bags for Denali unless pre-approved for transporting medical devices. " Are you talking about personal bags that stay with you on the train? Or are you talking about the luggage going with you that you put outside your cabin the night before cruise departure that you will use at the hotel at Denali? We both have backpacks that always stay with us and one hard sided luggage with spinner wheels that we had planned to put outside our cabin to use at Denali hotel. No other luggage. Thank you for your help and knowledge.
  3. I would like to know how it works on land tours after the cruise.
  4. You tube “ParoDeeJay” has some good videos on things to do in Alaska ports. They seem to show you options you can do if you don’t book with the cruise line.
  5. Many don’t dress up anymore. Enjoy the dining room if you want and don’t worry about what others wear. We pack light and just wear pants. My DH wears a knit collar shirt and I add a small necklace to a dark T-shirt. I have a scarf with a little sparkle I use on the plane and in the dining room to fight off the chill. Have a fun cruise.
  6. My dh and I just finished reading the book Cabin Fever: The Harrowing Journey of a Cruise Ship at the Dawn of a Pandemic by Michael Smith and Jonathan Franklin. It is about HAL ships going through the canal. When we went through the canal in March the ship narrator talked about this journey. It is a Very interesting book we recommend it.
  7. We were on her in March and went through the old lock to the lake and then back out the same way. Wonderful day. We stayed on our balcony all day.
  8. I prefer cabins without curtains. I would be happy if they remove the throw pillows too.
  9. I have read on CC that people put magnetic hooks on the ceiling and hang a shower curtain.
  10. Limited pastries choices that change throughout the day. Wonderful chocolate and plain croissants when the first open in the morning. The pastries are free and coffee has a charge unless you have a drink package then it counts as one drink.
  11. Thank you for the link. Just what I need.
  12. What time does the train leave for Anchorage to Whittier. It will need to go through the tunnel which allows only one way at a time. When we took a bus Anchorage to Whittier the traffic was heavy and caused us delays. Our stop at the wildlife center was shorter to make up the time so we could go through the tunnel. It was a few years back and we were docked in Anchorage taking a shore excursion to College Fjords.
  13. Thank you and the other people who have commented. We are thinking of traveling with HAL riding the train from Whittier to their lodge at Denali and then Fairbanks. Sounds like we might see it after all if clear weather. I’m sure we will go back in a few years if we remain physically healthy.
  14. Thank you. I did not know that. I know that you have only a 30% chance of seeing it come out even if you could go to the end of the road. Alaska is so beautiful every where you look.
  15. Does anyone have current construction information on how far the buses can go in Denali national park due to the landslide? Will any additional road be open as the summer progresses? Is there even a possibility of ever seeing the mountain? Thank you for sharing.
  16. Many people on our Roll Call have booked a package that includes the Signature Drink package and other items. We can see the other items have been applied but not the drink package. Does anyone know how to find that this has been applied? Thanks.
  17. I wonder if HAL has Fresca? Sounds good. Does anyone know if a Frozen Margarita is within the $11 limit of the Signature Drink Package?
  18. Home page says “Planning your cruise “. Scroll to last box on right side. “Check In”. Log in and it will show cabin as guaranteed or cabin #.
  19. 6078 is a SS Signature Suite. Good pictures on Halfacts.com of cabins around 6078 . The cabins they have been discussing are the V And VA Verandah Staterooms.
  20. Have you looked up your cabin # on Halfacts.com? If your # is not listed then check for ones located near by and check out the sister ship Nieuw Amsterdam .
  21. So sorry he got sick. What did he do since you were so close to the end? Did he quarantine? How and when did you get home ?
  22. Our last trip we saw whales from the ship many times and seals on ice burgs as we traveled to the glaciers. Spend your sea days up high and in front where you Can see out. Many ships have a crows nest lounge in the front you can hang out and spend the day looking out. They also open the bow of the ship when sightseeing as possible,. Take warm clothes for the cold wind. If I was trying to save money, I would go to Mendenhall glacier and take the lift up the mountain in Juneau. As mentioned before, Skagway and Ketchikan are great towns to walk around.
  23. It was reported on CC earlier that the Eurodam dry dock is February 18-March 4, 2023.
