Is Celebrity getting a lot more expensive?
Keys Kathy replied to slanik's topic in Celebrity Cruises
If we hit the lotto, we would probably go for a suite, but then we might go to a true luxury line like Oceana, Seabourn, or Regent. No yacht, DH would rather have a plane. I agree, a yacht would be boring. We still sail with people we've met onboard, and most of them were in cabins lower than suites. They were in the gen pop, which is where we often hang out. MSC lets you buy someone a "pass" to use the Yacht Club ammenities. We did that with a sailing buddy and she was hooked on Yacht Club. She hasn't sailed with X in 4 years and has no desire to come back. MSC OFTEN has specials with no single supplement so she sails with them at least once a year. It doesn't make sense to charge a single for tips, drink package and internet when they can't use it. If you recall, after the Edge came out, within 8 months it was on the Exciting Deals list. Of course there weren't any deals, it was just on the list. Now that the drink package is so expensive and tips so high, it doesn't make sense to NOT buy the AI unless you don't drink. But even so, the difference in price is enough to choke you. -

Since X has gotten so expensive, we are now in MSC Yacht Club. It is true we do not venture out of the Yacht Club unless it is a port day-too crowded, but other than on the Divinia, they got it right. You never have to leave if you don't want too. Having them carry on your luggage as you get on is a big plus. We have been on the Edge and the Apex and were on the Apex for the Transatlantic in April, we loved Eden! Great entertainment, fabulous staff and the restaurant was wonderful. I had the best dessert of my life there. With the current pricing, we are priced out of the Suites, but we will still watch for a decent deal on a Veranda, regardless of the class of ship. Each class has it's features. -
Just don't use gels. They scar the door.

Thanks, I will add my 2 cents. We have been on the Edge and Apex. Although I like the public spaces, the cabins have windows, there are no balconies. A Balcony is a platform enclosed by a wall or balustrade on the outside of a building, with access from an upper-floor window or door. The IV are on the inside of the ship. If you go out the window, you are in the water. A veranda is a roofed platform along the outside of a house, level with the ground floor. So it seems that Oxford does not agree with X. The Eden bar is full of energy. We spent a lot of time there. Our next 3 trips are on Millenium Class ships. 1 in a suite, 2 in a veranda. One of the upsides of the Edge class is all the different dining venues. We loved Eden, the Steak House was so-so and the bistro was very good, not the night show, during the day. Raw on Five was great with a discount.

CABIN HOLIDAY DECORATING IDEAS PLEASE!
Keys Kathy replied to Sheltielover73's topic in Celebrity Cruises
That is correct, gell will leach. That is why I just use clings with double stick tape. I used strong magnets on the door to keep the lights in place. -

I went to the Oriental Trading Company and purchased clings for the balcony and interior. You can use magnets and double sided tape to hang things. I had battery operated lights on the hall door. -
The M class does not have a bar like that. Personally, I would take my 4 cube ice cube tray and ask the bartender that will be pouring it for you to freeze the cubes for you. It is amazing what a $10. bill can do! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!

I love the way they do it now. OK, so no bubbly when you get on board, but you get rid of all your carry-on stuff and have your room card right away. I go to the cabin, DH goes to the Martini Bar and orders our drinks. We watch the muster video while imbibing and then check in at our muster station on our way to lunch. It is such a CIVILIZED way to cruise.

We went over in the Spring on the Apex. Hubby had a jacket, but no tie, I had skirts and dressy blouses. There were a few gowns and tuxes, but not many. Now that the Airlines charge so much for luggage, the weight of formal clothes does not make sense when flying. My gown weighs about 8 lbs, then add the shoes, gloves, etc and the same for Hubby.

Your FAV Specialty Restaurant on Edge class ?
Keys Kathy replied to nimiq's topic in Celebrity Cruises
Eden! After we were seated, I called the chef over and put ourselved in his hands. We said we wanted to try the lobster and the rest was up to him. It was fabulous. DO NOT MISS THE AZTEC DESSERT!!!! It is the best dessert I have ever eaten and the presetation was fabulous. -
This is X, who knows how screwed up the website is?

I think with tip and no discount for Elite etc it is $18.ish.per day

That is such a personal choice. We like the better wines and not being told that Vodka / Gin / Burbon we want is not part of our package.

Edge Luminae - Order Off of Main Dining Room Menu
Keys Kathy replied to shirazcruiser's topic in Celebrity Cruises
I guess X still does not get the point that most of us are returning guests. Thank God they did away with the sausage in the pretzel roll on embarcation lunch. But I still love the fillet on the second lunch day. The lobster roll is great without the roll. The menus get stail which is why we reach out to other menus, NOT to make them work harder. We are paying a huge premium for the service. The kitchen can make just about anything. That is their job. That is why we pay twice as much. -

We prefer the MDR lobster to the sauced Lobster in Luminae. We always ask for that. -

True, my latest recollection was of S class. -

On the M and S class, the spaces are designed to appear to be smaller. They have that partition between the front and the back and you enter from the middleish making the room seem to be more divided. I think they can improve the layout on E class by adding partitions which will not only provide a more intimate experience, but would also absorb the noise. They can't easily change the location. I have to say, I love the spaces on the Edge, but I do not like the cabins. IT IS A WINDOW! -

I agree, unless you are in the little alcove as you walk in, the atmosphere is more like eating in the MDR. I think Lumenae on the Edge class was poorly designed. The location is not the best, the room is to main diningesque, and there is one bathroom, and wants to through a coridor of cabins to get to dinner?
