  1. LIke any other bingo, you purchase cards out front if you want, and they play usually 4 games. That part is standard. The fun part is that there will be at least 2 people leading the event. The best is when one of them is The Diva.....between calling, it is a series of jokes, songs, etc. This is especially when verifying results and other "down time" minutes. The whole thing is right at an hour or a tad less. We recently had The Diva and Pip The Flare (Pip is her name, Flare is her position). Pip was the straight person who did the calling and business part of things, but at the same time, shared a few jokes, etc. The Diva was great. We had The Hostess at another session....she wasn't as good.
  2. It depends greatly on the length of cruise and location. What I know......in 2022 the average for ALL VV sailings was 43 with a range of 18-90s. This was published data from VV late summer 2023, I saw a statement from a TA that the average age was 48. He didn't say anything about what time period or cruise length was involved or where he got this figure. Personal experience--shorter cruises = younger people, but that is a generalization. Overall, a few 20s, a lot of 30s -50s, and enough older people that you can be comfortable at any adult age. On our recent 14 night, there seemed to be more elderly people traveling with younger family than I'd seen previously. There are a significant number of parents with adult children and 30s-40s who can work on line. The published data from VV will always look older than other lines because there are no kids on board to bring the average down. Example--Celebrity and Princess on the cruises I've done seem to have a LOT more older adults, but their stated averages are lower because they are actively trying to cater to families with kids. VV is basically "young at heart" regardless of chronological age.
  3. Using the app, people in suites can reserve dining 60 days out; those in regular cabins can do it 45 days out. If the app crashes (not unusual), you can also do it by calling VV or your travel agent can do it for you thru their portal. You can also purchase excursions in advance. You can only book shows and activities like fitness classes after boarding. However, there is a standby line for almost everything and many times people do not show up. You want to do bungee class and there are no openings? show up 5 minutes early and ask if there are any spots available. To those who say "why no closet doors?" I've never heard a closet door squeak or groan on VV, which I have experienced on DCL and Princess. I'd rather be sleeping thru the night than experiencing noise every time the ship moves. I agree that there is a great deal of room for improvement on VV, but how much does a curtain vs. a door really impact the quality of your cruise? True, the decor is not particularly classy in the cabins. The beds are not the best cruise beds I've every experienced. Hoping for bed improvement when Scarlet goes to dry dock next summer--that IS something that impacts the quality of my cruise.
  4. You can dress up as little or as much as you wish at ANY restaurant. The dress code is very limited and basically is no swimwear and cover appropriate body parts. If he wears a jacket, he won't be the only one. On the other hand, if he wears shorts and a t-shirt, he won't be the only one either. He should wear whatever he feels comfortable in.
  5. The status match and the resulting Deep Blue Extras perks are not available on the severely discounted cruises such as casino rates and travel agent rates. The status match IS able to be combined with most promotions that are available to the general public such as the Black Friday rates, early booking discounts, MyNextVirginVoyage discount, Pay in full prior to 180 days, FL resident rates, and various other promotions, If you play on board and rebook on another casino rate, you will not be able to do the status match on that new booking--again because it is a severely reduced rate. Bottom line--depending on the cruise you've selected and the various current promotions, it might be worth determining whether it is worth booking on a "normal" rate with discounts, loot, bar tab, DBE, etc, or whether you will benefit more from the casino rate. That of course will depend on the rate you are offered.
  6. This is exactly right. The TA took the $300 off the $3006 to give you a total of $2706. You are paying $300 for the MNVV which is being applied to the deposit, along with the $194 additional needed for the deposit. If you pay off the balance more than 180 days before cruising, you will get the 10% deduction at that time.
  7. We had no trouble booking as soon as we were on board on any of our cruises. Since our most recent cruise was only a week ago, I'd guess that my info is up to date. You DO NOT need to do the safety video before booking.
  8. This is one of the stations in THe Galley and has been there since the ship opened.
  9. As of 2 days ago, we were denied the ability to purchase an unopened bottle of wine at The Wake. We turned around and ordered the same wine from Ship Eats...so got 2 unopened bottles from ship eats during the cruise, both unopened. My only suggestion would be to not wait till the end of the cruise as they did run out of some products.
  10. For starters, I'd show up about 3. Those late boarding times will be allowed to board as soon as the earlier times have been processed. As to whether you will find parking.....no one csn promise you anything. If 100% of the cruise passengers drive to the port, probably not, but I don't believe that has ever happened. There is no way to predict on a given date, but parking is not normally a problem.
  11. As above, it applies only to Sea Terrace rates and above. While it can be combined with MOST promotions, it cannot be combined with casino fares, travel agent rates, etc. The only downside is that if you don't use it in 2 years, you lose the $300 you paid, BUT it is transferrable, meaning that you can sell it to a friend . If you buy it thru a Gold Tier travel agent (VV's highest designation), you can often get additional perks and they will make sure you are getting the best possible deal.....and, if for some reason, you can't use your certificate, they can often sell it to another of their clients for you and pay you the cost of the certificate so you lose nothing. The cruise must be sailed within 2 years, not booked within 2 years, I believe. It does combine with the DBE loyalty credit, the current complimentary bar tab offer, etc.
  12. THe airlines tell you to be at the airport 3 hours in advance for international, but that has been VERY generous at BCN when we have done it. I've found myself as the only person at a not yet opened gate for 2 hours! It is only a 20-25 minutes ride from the cruise port to the airport. The only possible hangup is if the ship is delayed arriving or in Customs clearance (which must be completed before passengers can get off). Normally disembarkation starts by 7:30, so unless there is a medical/legal/ship function issue, you're fine. FWIW, my next flight from BCN after a cruise is 12:40, again because it was a good flight, good price.
  13. I'm not a TA, so I can't speak authoritatively. I suspect that it is too late once you have paid in full, but it wouldn't hurt to ask a Gold Tier agent if that is true. VV has weird rules on many things. I'm on the ship now, and have had no problem with changing reservations after boarding or during the cruise...but we have 1600 on our ship. A more full ship would have less flexibility. Since you got the loot /bar tab credit for a cancelation, you are undoubtedly in good shape. THe app regularly crashes while people are booking dining. If the app fails, you can call Shoreside Sailor Services and they can make the reservations for you (don't accept them telling you various fixes for the app; just tell them what you want and ask that they make the reservations for you. Enjoy your cruise.
  14. Confirmation for those who are asking about the "unopened bottle" policy as a way to use some of that bar tab. As of this morning, I was denied the ability to purchase an unopened bottle at The Wake, but was able to order one from Ship Eats.
  15. Agree that the chicken needs a side....but still, a huge improvement. A year ago we ate almost nothing beyond a taste and went to dinner afterward. This time, no "second dinner" needed. Since the professional acts change quite regularly, it is hard to evaluate...but I liked 4 professionals acts this time rather than 3 on our last experience.
  16. OK, here's the small problem....since I am on the ship right now, I can't view the "pre-cruise" app. On the app I can see, on the first page there is a section that is titled "View and add your mates." That's where I can link people now. I kNOW there is a similar section on the pre-cruise app, but I can't see it at the moment...I even tried to view my next cruise--can't do it. I KNOW it can happen because I've done it before. Call Sailor Services at VV Shoreside or your travel agent and have them walk you thru it if you can't find it. It is very easy, provided they have done their pre-cruise sign on or at least part of it. My adult daughter didn't add her photo till about 2 days before the cruise, but I could add her long before that as she had put in SOME of her stuff on the app. Ditto with friends in other rooms.
  17. Currently on Valiant. Note--everything on VV is subject to change !. Are you asking whether your cabins are "linked" as in all 4 of you can make reservations for each other, etc. on the app? This is easy to see and do. If you see their faces/names, you are linked. If you are asking if the cabins link, no...but some of the balconies do. You can't tell this on the app. 2.no 3. If you are linked on the app, all 4 faces will show up when you attempt to make any reservation, you click on the face(s) that are to be included in the reservation. When it comes to the "confirm" screen, it will say "reservation for 4." 4. You don't pay for any DBE benefits. They are automatically not charged. NOTE--they used to be charged and the charge removed within 24 hours. This has now been fixed. 5. Yes. When you do the advance check in, list the same credit card for each cabin. Check the box that you are responsible for each person in the cabin. If it argues with you in the app, go to Sailor Services and they can fix it. 6. It will be clearly noted on the app, at the gangway, on the elevators, etc. All aboard time is usually 30 minutes before the ship departs. 7. You schedule a disembarkation time on the app under "shore things" This option will open up during your cruise. The don't do dismemberment on the cruise unless you are drunk and disorderly. 8. DBE benefits are supposed to be "per cabin," but on this current cruise, the complimentary bar tab was "per person." If you used a gold tier travel agent, he or she should be able to make your dining reservations for you. Mine is up and does it at midnight. It is FAR more reliable on the TA portal than on the app. If you didn't use one, you can transfer after making your initial reservation. Not using one means you may be leaving more than a few benefits out of your reservation. For instance, many "First Mates" have "My Next Virgin Voyage" certificates that they can sell you at cost....which saves you $300 per cabin on the fare and gives you $600 per cabin in "loot."
  18. We cruised VV a year ago. THe food at Ship Show was basically inedible. 2 of the 3 professional acts were food, but there was way too much of the audience participation stuff and the "ship show dancers." We tried it again tonight. THe food was GOOD. Seriously, it was some of the best during the cruise. There were now 4 professional acts with far less audience participation stuff. The dancers had been cut from 6 to 3, and did a lot less. The singer was good. A good evening and my only complaint would be that the show was listed as starting at 5:30. They didn't even open the doors to start seating till 5:35. Not a big deal, just a lot of people standing in line for quite a while as there was a significant line at 5:15.
  19. I booked my first VV on my own. THen met a Gold Tier agent who has been absolutely wonderful. She checks all of her reservations each time VV comes out with a new deal and contacts me if the new is any better than what I already have...,and the service is great. VV is improving their shoreside sailor service, but a year ago, it was not unusual to wait on the phone for over an hour and HOPE you got correct info. Also, if your TA books 10 or more cabins on a given cruise, that results in extra perks for each cabin booked (from VV, not from TA).
  20. You will be able to add anyone who is linked to your account, even if not in the same cabin. Warning--anyone you are linked with can also cancel your reservations! We find it best to not link FB friends or similar for that reason, Also, if the app crashes, which is common, your TA can do your reservations thru their portal.
  21. This is the risk of bidding on upgrades or doing "Lock it in"rates. I'd be unhappy if I got one of the chairs instead of a hammock, but then, can't complain if I paid for an inside and got a balcony....The other thing to consider when booking is that many perks start at the Sea Terrace level, so if those perks are something you want, it may be worthwhile to book the more costly cabin,
  22. Have your TA book for the group so she can grab all you need at once, OR look into private companies offering the same tour, often for as much as 50% less than cruise lines charge for the same thing!
  23. I can see first time cruisers panicking briefly....but obviously the infamous "7 short and one long" LOUD horn blast did not occur. The other point which first timers might not appreciate is that there is a huge difference between a request to report to muster stations and a captain giving an "abandon ship" order. For instance, on the Disney Magic years ago there was a "thermal anomaly," which on any other line would have been called a fire. This was a rather large fire (there are photos on line), not a brief kitchen fire. At some point in the firefighting efforts, we got the horn and overhead announcement to report to muster stations with life vests. About an hour later, we were released to return to our beds. The explanation was that the captain felt that it would be better to have everyone counted and in place to allow for a smooth evacuation had that become necessary. Yes, it was a painful wake up call, but anyone with two synapsing neurons would appreciate the captain placing safety as the top priority.
  24. Totally as above--if you check the box on the app, you both have total access to all bar tab and loot funds.
