No assigned cabin yet. 21 days til we sail. I have about given up about knowing, too stressful, LOL Not really, I will be on a cruise so I won't care where I am.Keep me updated with what you get and I will do the same. The part that makes me wonder more is the TA told me that the RC rep told her "we were in the running for a grand suite". Not sure what the heck that means. So just with that comment got me kinda excited and got my hopes up.
Okay, about 30 days to our cruise on Harmony. We booked a WS GTY and we got our room assignment yesterday. We got a JS on deck 7. Remember how our E-docs said deck 7? Well, that is where we ended up, so I guess if you get something saying a deck number, that is the deck that you will probably end up on.
Dont forget to keep me updated on what you finally get assigned. Your cruise is almost here!!😀

Are they still showing Dreamworks movies on the ship for now? We will be on Harmony on March 29th and just wondered if we might see the new “How to Train Your Dragon” while onboard.

WOW! I never knew this.
I've posted a many posts about alcohol pkg, basically where I say "i'm not a big drinker"
Basically I'm not a drinker at all
My one poison is a frozen mojito I freaking love those things I will usually have 1-2 with alcohol each day, but a million more alcohol free.
But the cost of them --- even virgin always dictated buying the alcohol pkg.
My wife loves her wine and booze, and we always have to buy two so I just get both pkgs typically even though 95% of my drinking is alcohol free.
I had no idea the royal refreshment pkg lets me get frozen drinks without the alcohol! This might be a huge game changer for us.
Thanks Cruise Critic.
Oh my gosh!! Too bad you didn’t know this before. It would have saved a little money. But I’m glad that you saw this and found out today. Happy sailing!!

That's Alaska. I made several fishing trips up there in the late 90's. Weather is always a crap shoot, but Alaska is always worth the effort.
So very true!! We lived in Sitka for a couple of years in the early 80’s. Beautiful little town! Hubby was in the Coast Guard.
That is one of the reasons we did the 9 day. It went to Sitka and we hadn’t been back since we were transferred back to California. We also took our son so he could see where we lived as newlyweds. Unfortunately, that was one of the really rainy days. But we still showed him around. It’s still a little town, but has grown a lot since we were there.

Was pleased to read this. We did an Alaska cruise in Aug last year and had a lot of rain, so we decided to redo it. We added it to the end of a TP and will be going on the Radiance 5/15/20. Hope the weather cooperates a little better this time!
We did the first cruise of the season in early May 2017 because it was a 9 night and went to 2 ports that the Royal doesn’t normally go to. It was very rainy! Don’t get me wrong, we still loved it and got out and explored. But, it made some port days a little miserable, even with good rain gear.
We did Alaska in 2013 in June. It was great! But it was also a heatwave there. So not the norm, I guess.
If you want to see bears, July is prime season. But that is prime tourist season so prices are also “prime”. 😁

I’m not the OP, but thanks for all of the great information!

Sorry...no, the policy has changed..again....RCI isn't known for updating online information
Do you know when that happened? I wasn’t aware that they had changed that policy....again.
I personally like the idea of not having to purchase it for everyone over 21 in the room as I don’t drink nearly enough to make it worthwhile.
-
Just looked this up on Royal’s website after December 31, 2017 all persons over 21 in the same cabin are required to purchase the drink package. I think this was because there was a lot of people abusing it.
You might want to call and explain the situation and see what they say.

I know you can take off sealed packages foods, like little boxes of Cheerios or bags of chips
Huh. I didn’t know that. I thought it was any food from the ship.

I have been on roll calls for other lines where people admit to ordering room service the night before and wrapping the sandwich with sandwich wrap that they brought from home. Personally that's too much work and planning for me but I would definitely grab one of those gas station sandwiches after a day in port.
I have always heard that Cozumel was pretty strict, with dogs that sniff beach bags as people leave the ship.

Also, all of the paper for advertising things in the Cruise Compass has always puzzled me. What a waste! Just use the TV for that. We get a lot of the same messages on our TV every day when we check our account.
-
To get this thread even more off topic, so far now, two people have mentioned taking food off of the ship for excursions in port. I thought that you couldn’t take food off of the ship, or face being fined.

I will post it as soon as I find out. 13 days or sooner! 🙂
Thanks so much!
Would you mind sharing what suites that you ended up in on your previous cruises with the WS GTY?
-
We are around 30 days out and still don’t have our room assignment yet, either. Oh the anticipation!!
Krazyfuntimes, we are also doing a WS GTY. We have never done this before on Royal. I would also be interested in knowing what suite that you ended up with. If you don’t mind sharing.

I think it will probably save some money just to rent the car and drive to Orlando and keep it for the whole time that you are there. Florida does not have a fee to return a rental car to a different location.(Like some other states do)
We are flying into Orlando and renting a car, doing a couple of days at WDW, then just driving to Ft. Lauderdale the morning of the cruise.
Someone that has done this before might know more about this as this is the first time we are doing this, and we did not check prices of shuttles from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale.
-
Yes! Later in the morning! We travel from CA so have a really early travel day the day before boarding (starts at 3:00am) and then tend to stay up late the first night of the cruise. So it is nice to sleep in a little the first sea day.
I agree with specialty restaurant, drink tickets, or a voucher for Vintages. Things of that nature.

Allure would be my choice because of all of the activities. But, you might want to make sure that your 9 year olds meet height and weight requirements for things like the zip line, boogie boarding on the Flowrider, and the rock climbing walls.

It does say sparkling water is included so would that be the San Pelligrino? We drink the bottled water they give out and don’t have a problem with it, but if someone prefers the sparkling water would it be the San Pelligrino? (Inquiring minds, LOL)

If you do decide to move, remember that because of the boardwalk sign, you can't cross over from one elevator bank to the other on deck 7, so I would go up to deck 8 if you don't do deck 6.
Completely agree! We stayed on deck 7 midship once. It was kind of a pain and we have always done deck 8 or above since then.
-
While we have not stayed in these exact rooms, we have stayed in comparable rooms on other decks. We have not had a noise problem. You will always have the occasional loud person walking by, but that is with any room pretty much.

We are doing the same thing....flying home Monday saved us about $1000....so we are going to try the same for viewing.
Yes it saved a lot for us to leave on Monday. We usually just fly home on Sunday, but it was just too expensive this time. But, this was also an unplanned kinda last minute trip. Having to travel from California can be a pain.

It was a rhetorical bit of humor.
People making poor choices don't deserve a meltdown for the consequences. Being on time results in no need for any meltdown.
Duh! Got it!
We do book non-ship excursions sometimes and that always worries me a little. If we missed the ship because our excursion was delayed getting back somehow, I am sure I would have a little bit of a breakdown watching the ship pull away!
For an Alaskan cruise one time we were going to book an excursion on a float plane. The only time they had left was a late afternoon flight. They were reassuring us that we would make it back to the ship on time. We politely declined. Just made me too nervous.

The meltdown came soon thereafter...at SeniorFrog's (bar) next to the Pier Area...and rumor has it...it wasn't pretty.
Just curious as to how you know this. Were you on the Bliss and someone witnessed it?
For the record, I would have had a meltdown right on the pier.

Thanks Ken! We have never watched the ships leave port. Will be interesting to see them from that perspective. Thought it would be a good way to kill some time.

Our very first cruise! When Royal still had ships in California. Monarch of the Seas April 2008 a 4 day to Catalina Island and Ensenada. We also loved the Viking Crown Lounge. We would go up there every evening, have a drink and watch the sunset before dinner. Sadly that was Royal’s last year in California
We have cruised every year since then at least once a year. The majority on Royal.
Edit to add: We thought that ship was so huge. Now our favorite ships are the Oasis class. Haha!

I know that the roll call on our next cruise is looking to be almost 200 people. Granted, I know that not everyone will show up. But, with so many in attendance, I think the whole “everyone introduce themselves”, would take up too much time. Especially if someone is planning to attend the C&A event afterwards. Maybe do the name tags instead when there are that many people.
