  1. Oh oh. I guess I’m one of those who thought we could see the northern lights. In fact I thought I read that hotels have a sign up where they will call your room if the northern lights are visible. No??? There is no dark sky at all? I think I’m going to learn a lot in August when we are there!

The best time to see the Northern Lights is mid to late September to April. Of course the farther north that you are, the better your chances of seeing them.

We lived in Southeast Alaska and only saw them once. We only lived there for a couple of years when my husband was in the service.

  2. Andrew, thanks for the trip report. What an amazing time that you have had already! Your video is so great, beautiful and peaceful!

We did a few days in Anchorage on our own last year after the cruise. We went to the animal sanctuary only it was a very wet, rainy and cold day for us. I think you will have a nicer day. The grizzlies there are awesome. Check out their claws!

Safe travels and looking forward to the rest of your trip!

BTW, you will have the perfect spot to see Hubbard Glacier from your room and balcony. Order room service and you don’t even have to change out of your PJ’s![emoji846]

  3. Alaska isn't always cold. We were there in 2013. The temps were above 25C (75F) every day. Actually , most days it was too hot. I remember being in Juneau, walking through the town and we kept ducking into the shadows to cool down. You never know, you might get lucky like we did

We were also there that year in early June. It was too hot for Alaska. But we sure enjoyed the sunshine!

Last year we were on the first sailing of the year in mid May. It was rainy and cold for half of the ports. But we still loved it!

You can’t beat the beauty of Alaska!

  4. We still have the soft sided luggage but are thinking of replacing with the hard sided as the luggage wears out.

We have a combo of Samsonite and Delsey, both with spinners. We love both and they have held up very well. We buy them at Marshall’s where they are less expensive than buying at a department store.

Edited to say: although sometimes at Kohl’s with a sale on luggage, 30% off and Kohl’s cash, you can get them pretty cheap!

  5. We had kids with us so we went to Flamingo show at the zoo, then to Pirate Museum. Prices were reasonable and had fun.[/

Did you really enjoy the zoo? We went there with our son about 4 years ago. The flamingo show was cute but that was the most pathetic zoo I have ever been to.

And it seemed like they didn’t take care of the animals very well. They had a leopard or some kind of a big cat (sorry I don’t remember what it was exactly) that had an open wound. Half of the exhibits were empty.

It was definitely not worth it to us. If we go there now, we stay on the ship.

  6. We don’t book a suite to “feel special”. We book a suite because to us all of the extra perks are worth it.

We are not Diamond members (yet) so the “Happy Hour”, the coffee machine, and the Voom are worth it to us. We do enjoy dining in CK for breakfast and dinner without the crowds.

We love the room, and right now with a teenage boy who is over 6 foot tall, that extra room is priceless! Haha!

We love that we can just make our plans for that day and not have to plan months in advance for reservations to shows.

Just tried the luggage valet for the first time and it was awesome!

Finally, being escorted off of the ship and past all of the lines is one of the best perks of all!

( We have only been in suites on Oasis class ships.)

  7. Thanks Bob and Lovetocruise2002 for answering my question.

I have another question for you. On this last cruise in the CL the stateroom attendants asked us on the first evening if we needed any of our clothes pressed for formal night. We did send our son’s pants to be pressed. We had never been offered this service when we were in the GS.

Is this another perk that they don’t make to be known too well?

  8. Suite guests still receive Luggage Valet services complimentary?

I have a question about this. We have been in a GS twice on Allure and a CL suite on Harmony.

When we were in the GS we were never told about this. Only this last time when we were in the CL were we told about this by our room stewards.

Is this something that is only offered to suites on the 17th floor, or is this supposed to be for any suite?

We used it for our one large bag and one of our carry-ones. It worked like a charm and we would love to use that again if we stay in a GS. Just wanted to make sure that was a perk that was offered to GS guests. If so, it irks me that we were not made aware of it before!

  9. JUST CURIOUS...I keep reading how GS and above get free room service, but I am fresh off Symphony of the Seas and was in a GS. I was told GS DO NOT get free room service...ONLY "STAR" Guests have that perk.

We were on Harmony May 19-26 in a CL suite, we ordered room service and it was free. I sure hope this is not something else they have taken away.

  10. Did you leave from Vancouver right away, or did you spend a little time there? We really enjoyed it. Beautiful friendly city!

So glad that you got to see bears! We did see a Mama and two babies at Mendenhall Glacier last year.

You are so right about the Radiance needing a dry dock! We were shocked last year at all of the rust on the ship. We usually sail the newer Oasis class ships. I am wondering if a lot of the older ships have all of the rust, too?

Thanks for the review! So awesome that you had great weather!

  11. Jeramias and checker are saints. They are not there the first day to later on, afternoon/evening.

If you have any requests for them, such as reservations for the comedy show or specialty dinning. You can email them a week before the cruise. They have a line of people the first day.

Let them know if you would like the bridge tour too.

One of my favorite perks of suites is the disembark. You pick a time, meet at coastal kitchen. Jerimias and Checker have a key to the elevator. They bypass all, walk you to a seperate luggage station, and then customs.

I'm saying from coastal kitchen to cab 10-15 minutes

We loved Jeramias and Checker, too! They were so helpful. Always helped with any request. They both have a great sense of humor.

I also agree about the disembarkation. That alone almost makes the cost of a suite worth it!

On our last cruise there was a younger guy that had never had this perk and was questioning if it was really worth it and if it really saved that much time. We pointed out the lines on the ship and all of the people that we passed by and he couldn’t believe it.

  12. Completely love the entire Suite Lounge & Coastal Kitchen area! We were there all the time! 9 more months till I return! I miss Harmony so much.

Yes, I agree! This was the first (and probably only time) we were in a CL suite. You get really spoiled when you can just pop into the SL from your room anytime. We took full advantage of that.

We have been in a GS before. We loved that too, but the proximity to the SL from the CL suite was so nice!

  13. There is a coffee machine in the SL that you can use any time. It makes cappuccino, espresso, etc. You can make hot tea. It was awesome!

They also have cookies up there during the day. The famous Ranger cookies were there a few times.
