  1. The server on the train made me his "Moosey Mary"
  2. There is also a specific form that has to be filled out, signed, and filed. I miss the old way when I could just wait until final payment before transferring the cruise to our TA and it only took a note to him with the request and the booking info. PCL Reservation Transfer Request Form.pdf
  3. That's the infamous barcode that nobody anywhere or anytime ever asks to see. Don't worry about it at all.
  4. It's not a bug, it's a feature! 🤪 Downloading the update now. Perhaps it will work well. Other than the slowness I haven't really had any issues with the new app. Heck, other than right at the beginning I didn't have much in the way of issues with the old app. Edit: Okay, the new app got past the initial Sea Witch screen in about 13 seconds. However, it then took more than a minute to finally stop having the "loading circle" on a greyed out screen. It did finally load but that was really a long time. That is definitely a step in the wrong direction.
  5. Weird. At the kiosk outside the ship we just flash the Medallions at them and they nod. Boarding the ship we have to place them on the scanners. They look at their tablet and then at us and nod and we board. I don't really know why, but I would prefer our names and the ship and date showed. However, these holders are extremely secure (it's a little bit of work to get the Medallions in the holders and they fit very snugly) and they have a clip on the back. My wife sometimes uses the clip but often just keeps her Medallion in the tiny little bag she carries with her tatting in it. I keep mine in my pocket and we both find the clip on the back very convenient to hold onto when actually needing to scan the Medallion.
  6. Not really. We have never had an issue with our Medallions in Air Tag holders and the name, Ship, etc. don't show with the ones we use. Count us with the people that leave our Passports in the safe. The only time we would take them ashore is if the ship announces it as a requirement. In some ports the ship will collect passports for local officials to check but they return them to us later.
  7. We enjoyed seeing Denali when we were at the Mt. McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge. This is definitely something one can't see on a cruise-only trip.
  8. Check out the Map of Nope. I wouldn't count on being able to see much of the eclipse on your route.
  9. When we did our 7 week camping trip to Fairbanks we were in our little teardrop trailer. Every once in a while we got a room for the night and one of the places we booked was a B&B not far from Talkeetna. It had the advantage of not only being very near to Talkeetna but also very near to the Denali Brewing Company. They do, of course, have a brew pub in Talkeetna but we enjoyed visiting the actual brewery and having beers at a table outside and talking with the locals.
  10. If the Medallion had your account flagged as under 21 years of age you still couldn't order alcohol. It doesn't matter how old you are if the system "thinks" you are under age it won't allow the transaction.
  11. Having been married for a very long time I am used to sharing a bed. When I traveled for work I was never happy sleeping alone as it just felt "weird". We have the bed on the ship setup as a Queen. Many years ago we had a King (which was great when our boys were little and they attacked me in bed) but have no real need for that much real estate and gave it away to someone when we moved to a different town at one point. That would have been about 45 years ago and we have been sleeping on a Queen since then. I'm kind of used to it. 😉
  12. The one and only time we sailed on Island Princess (2016) they did have On The Bayou in the main theater. I watched it and it was definitely not nearly as good. It wasn't designed for that type of stage. I don't know if they still have it or not. Hopefully they figured out that it doesn't work nearly as well on a regular stage.
  13. Given all the comments regarding the phabulous Champagne... Does anybody have an actual copy of a current wine list with prices? Something that shows what is available by the glass and how much it is? I know the Plus fare offers wine that can be ordered by the glass that isn't simply called "Merlot" or "Cabernet Sauvignon". Even it is "Bob's Dago Red" it has an actual name and an associated price per glass. It's really annoying to ask for a wine list and be handed the "Plus" wine list that just lists generic labels rather than something that shows a name and price.
  14. Our first time at the Denali lodge we were on the second story and our window looked out over the river behind the lodge. There was a small "island" in the river and we watched a mother moose and her calf on the island from our window.
  15. Yes. You get people who walk with a rollator who book these cabins. Then you get someone such as our oldest son who can't walk or stand at all and there are no cabins available that a wheelchair can even fit through the door.
  16. Don't forget the Seward Brewery. We were walking around Seward (long camping trip - not a cruise) and my wife's face lit up and she said, "There's a BREW PUB!!!" 😂 We had a good lunch with good beer and bought one of our sons a tee shirt with the brewery info and the saying, "Stop Drinking Shitty Beer!" on the back.
  17. I would imagine it looks like this: Regal Princess C742
  18. We have cruised Alaska 4 times and did a 7 week camping trip from Northern California up through Canada to Fairbanks, Alaska. Two of our cruises have been connoisseur cruise tours and we loved them. The lodges aren't 5 star resorts but we really did enjoy the Kenai Wilderness Lodge. We had a cabin with a wood stove and our own porch. (There was wood for the stove in the room and more provided outside.) See picture below. The Copper River Wilderness Lodge was also quite nice. As for being able to see "all" of what Alaska is in an Alaska cruise only I find that to be a truly laughable statement. Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge
  19. We always book early and watch the price go up. Once in a great while it goes down and we rebook at the lower price but, for the most part, the prices go up. I know that on our upcoming cruise the price went up dramatically.
  20. I believe you are speaking of these items which can definitely be purchased without a package. =============================================================== How much do the Premium Desserts on Princess Cost without a Package? If you’ve booked “Princess Standard,” and not the Plus or Premier packages, you can still pay à la carte to enjoy the premium desserts. The à la carte price is $12 plus an extra $2 to add a shot of liquor.
  21. We have cruised Alaska in early May, late May, June, and early September and have had good weather for each and every cruise. There is simply no way to tell what the weather will be. Early May can be problematic if one wants to do the Tundra Wilderness Tour in Denali as the road can be closed part way up and one may only get a partial trip. However, the road is currently closed part way up as the entire side of the hill slid down and took the road with it. There are plans for a bridge to span that gap but it will take time.
  22. I disagree with this statement. The food items are still available but one has to pay for them. There is a la carte ordering or one can also pay the $14.95 pre fixe price at the venue. I don't know of any food items that are not available without a package or Ocean Now activation.
  23. We once booked a forward OV cabin on Emerald Princess. Huge mistake. The cabin was where the ship's hull started curving inward toward the bow. We had room for a night stand on one side of the bed but, on the other side of the bed, there was a very skinny walkway to sort of shuffle sideways between the bed and the wall. Princess really ought to make it "nobody-but-a-complete-moron-could-not-understand" clear that these cabins are really, really, really, crappy and then sell them super, super, super cheap to compensate.
  24. Matt O' left Princess. He had issues with mental health and his perceived role on Princess. I don't have a FB account (sorry CC mods) but, if you do, you should be able to find his lengthy comments regarding his issues with Princess and his leaving for his own sake. As for the Champagne Waterfall: I never really understood the appeal or the value but I realize that a lot of people really liked doing the pour with the Captain and getting the picture of them doing so. It's like the Baked Alaska Parade - something I don't understand and don't have any interest in but others do so I figure what the heck. As I said above, we tend to use the event as a people watching opportunity. Despite what many others say, we have seen quite a lot of "dressed up" folks hanging out and watching at this event.
  25. Hey! What did those plants ever do to you!. I've won multiple bottles of their "champagne". The first one was "not bad". It was in 2011 or 2012 and we won it for beating the Liar's Club game. (Not only did we know what Zarf meant but told them it is not spelled Zaref. (They admitted that I was correct.) That was the cruise where I told an assistant CD he was going to make a great CD one day. (You may remember Matt O'Brien.) I won one in Explorer's when we were seated near the stage and they did a small "mystery play". They asked for a volunteer to read some lines and I was the guy. (I did get a loud "aside" from an assistant CD saying "What the heck? You are doing it better than we are!" He was right. 😎) That one wasn't too bad either. The other two ranged from "umm... well... Ok..." to "Oh, Hell No!". That last one got one taste from each of us and then went down the bathroom sink. I believe that one was the time I played "Champagne Hoopla" and actually put two out of the three rings over the bottle. (I had tried it one other time and was horribly bad.) Like I said above, a friend drinks the stuff carried around during the Champagne Waterfall and I have seen countless others doing the same so, even though it's not suitable for someone with a developed palate, it is certainly suitable for the hoi polloi. While we have been know to observe the event it's usually just more to check out the people who bothered to dress for the Formal Night and those who don't. (We did have a cruise where a biker wore his do rag and colors but he was always clean, polite, and never foul mouthed so we considered him to be an ideal cruiser.) I tend to drink Bulleit Bourbon or Single Malt Scotch or Irish Whiskey and am more likely to be found with a double, straight up in my hand than the bubbly being carted around. (I may do a bit of Red Breast drinking on our upcoming cruise.)
