  1. Another vote for Hyatt Place which sits just behind Embassy Suites....We usually stay at ES (but it's looking a bit tired) so this past March we opted for HP, it's now my favorite of the two.

http://www.valuetrips.com has some of the best rates for Hyatt Place.

I looked into this hotel. My issue is our late arrival on Friday night. I want a hotel that has a shuttle that runs past 10pm.

  2. We heard the Hampton Inn in Fort Lauderdale at the Marina was a really great, clean hotel. We don't leave until 10/22, but will be arriving at the hotel a day early. Based on the reviews, I trust the hotel will be great. Love Hilton hotels.

We booked the north cruise Port one. I figured you can't go wrong w a chain and we will only be there for 12 hours max. We both work Friday and have ab evening flight. We won't need anything other than a bed and a shower when we get there.

  3. Call up the past guest department and have them proccess the refund or ask to be transferred to the resolutions department.

I detest people who say they wont travel on a vendor because of a policy or misinderstanding.

That the entitled world we live in. Give the destruction these hurricanes have caused and people having lost relatives and everything else they own, it's bothersome to me that others can rant about first world issues and expect people to care.

  4. Did you not read what I posted, or do you not comprehend what you read? I suggest that you go back and try again.

As to my thoughts, the OP asked for advice. I offered mine. If it's different from your, so be it. It was the OP's decision to seek advice on this forum, it'll be their choice to use what advice they receive.

    BTW, you guessed wrong.

I read and understood it and stand by my post. The OP can take his complaint up the food chain but shouldn't be upset if he doesn't get any more than he has received. I personally would let it go.

  5. It may be only my opinion but RCL didn't 'give' them a refund... they gave them a 'return' of their money as the product they sold was never delivered.

As far as what I would personally take to satisfy the situation, as I've stated I'm not sure. A first class RT to Rome would be nice but also a bit ridiculous. I think a lot would bear on the circumstances. Specifically the chances in my life of a return to Rome would come into play, but all in all, I would not walk away w/ a bottle of wine feeling good about my vacation. I don't think many of us would. I would indeed not stop until I spoke direct to the Hotel Manage of the Cruise Ship. I'm pretty confident that this person is experienced enough and has the people skills to make me feel a lot better about my loss of Rome on my vacation.

Once again I ask, what could be said or done to make you feel good enough to let it go. You have been asked this by me a few times and other posters but other than what you yourself deemed too much you have come up with nothing. I'm guessing it's because there is nothing short of what you have suggested, which we all know isnt going to happen.

  6. I know a woman who missed her daughter wedding. She took a cruise w knowing she was getting off the port where the wedding was to be held and fly home. One small problem, according to the cruise line, due to a paperwork issues, WE MISSED THE PORT. This woman got NOTHING. The entire cruise got nothing, except port fees returned, which they had to give anyway...not even a free beverage per cruiser. While I understand a port stop and an excursion are different. There is documentation to cover the cruise line on both. I'm still not sure what would make someone happy or feel whole. Clearly the cruise line gave what they thought would, those who would not accept that must have an idea of what it would take.

  7. Look, getting the refund of the excursion is expected and even entitled. As the excursion never took place. So what's happening here is that RCL is giving a cheap bottle of wine instead of a trip into Rome. Get real folks. Restitution is deserved here. It's part of doing business. They make millions annually by selling independent tours. A cheap bottle of wine would not work for me. But that's me.

What would work for you? I'm curious as to what make someone happy in this situation?

What are you talking about. Everybody on here has been telling you what you asked them for - some advice. Some of the posters even have gone to the extend to provide the T&C´s for you. Just because you didn´t like the answers everybody is criticizing you?

I´m sorry but even if the Captain had been on the train with you there would have been nothing he could have done. There is simply no need for any RCI representative on the train as they can´t do anything anyway.

Sure it´s unfortunate you missed Rome because all of it, but you got your money back and an apology. What more do you expect? A free cruise to get to Rome another time? Compensation for mental dissappointment? Sorry won´t happen.

I doubt you´ll get any further onboard and I doubt you´ll get any further back home. If you are confident a court will get you something else. Go and sue them once back home.

  8. I requested a lounge chair once. Since I was being an ignorant American and not realizing the language barrier. I got EXACTLY what I asked for, a chair from one of the lounges (bars). I should have known better especially when he gave me the look like, you really want a lounge chair. Since I took total responsibility for that miss communication, I used that lounge chair the entire week.

  9. I am sending this post with trepidation as I wonder what kind of responses I too will get.

A cruiser is taking exception to his and his family's experiences on the Allure. And the replies from fellow cruiser are to attack this gentlemen. I've always thought of Cruise Critic as a place where cruisers could share the good, the bad and the ugly about their cruising experiences without being attacked. Isn't that what community is? A safe place to exchange ideas, and experiences.

And as for the Allure... my family just came off cruising on the Allure. I am a long time and frequent cruiser with RCCL among other lines. We found the food in the dining room well below acceptable and ended up eating in the specialty restaurants where, the food was excellent. Why then did I pay for dinners on the cruise and pay again to get a decent meal?

Since my last RCCL cruise the cut backs are very obvious. While cruising is a wonderful way to vacation, I personally would prefer to pay more and have better service, entertainment and especially food. And to the gentlemen who started this thread, th ask you for voicing your experiences and for your second reply which was respectful.

    Happy cruising everyone.

I agree however my issue with this post was that is was day 1 doom and gloom over really trivial things. Give it a chance. For me, had the OP included this as a part of a review of the entire cruise it would have been better received.

  10. Not angry at all. Just disappointed.

I'm not sure what suite this is, my first RCL cruise. It was comped to me by my Casino.

Ceasers Palace comps me NCL cruises and that's all I've ever cruised. From eastern, western, Bahamas and Europe NCL cruise all have been great.

I've been playing at a different casino and this is what was given to me. I know it's a suite because I got to go into the "suite" line boarding and was sat at the suite lounge area before being let on the ship. Also compared to the other 2 balcony rooms I booked, my room is huge with a tub.

Allure is a beautiful ship. It's huge. Make NCL Escape feel small.

Seems I touched a nerve with some about how I felt with all of these snarky replies. And the comment about my kids, really? Is that necessary? So they like the food from another cruise line so now they are bitter etc?

Thought I could vent on this board about my cruise, I mean "cruise critic", yet I feel like my critique has some up in arms.

Oh well, I'll just go on about my vacation and see what the rest of the cruise has to offer. Johnny Rockets breakfast just now was great. My server was great.

To those with helpful replies and tips, thanks. I appreciate it.

The reason you experienced the snarky response is that you are complaining and unhappy on the first day of your first cruise on RCL (the cruise doesn't really matter). Most adults would give it more time, perhaps the entire 7 days before they complain. Quite honestly it sounds to me, hopefully I am wrong, but you and your kids have set the tone for your entire cruise on day 1.

  11. Hi Noreen, I appreciate you putting this much effort into this review, but you include way too many irrelevant details. Most of us just want details about the cruise, not your job title or that you texted your friend, or pictures of your toenails. Anybody can check my posting history to see I don't complain about much.

    Speechless, the audacity.

  12. The martini class is in Wonderland and if you wish to participate make sure that you get there early! We showed up at about 10 minutes early and it was already full. :o

Thanks for the info. I did one on NCL and it was about $25. It was held at a bar and there were less than 10 of us. He had 5 different types martinis and we each got a full glass of each one he made. Do you know if the RCI one is anything like this? TIA
