MSC Shoreside Customer Service is terrible. The onboard experience is excellent.

i was in Costa Maya yesterday and the taxi passes their offic, but they looked empty. There was one van parked behind the office building. It’s possible they closer temporarily for the slow season. Maya Chan closed for a few months for renovations because it is the slow season.

What is the solo MSC traveller experience like?
JT1962 replied to TheycallmeDrew's topic in MSC Cruises
I’m on Divina solo now and there have been solo meet-ups listed daily and a hosted solo party with about 45 in attendance. They have most of the singles seated at tables together at dinner and there has been no issue meeting other solo cruisers. -
I agree. The truth is always in the regulatory filings. The PR and Marketing departments always put a positive spin on things and are rarely, if ever, held liable for misstatements. The CEO, CFO & Auditors can be held criminally and civilly liable if they don’t disclose the full facts. Most aren’t willing to go to jail by glossing over the real story.

I agree that the bank or lending institution would not want it, but Carnival may not still have it, unless the lenders agree to restructure / write down the debt. Carnival can’t just file bankruptcy, get rid of the debt, keep the ships and move on with no debt.
-
I am on the 19 day sailing leaving Sunday and all communication from MSC indicates we are sailing.
-
Isn’t much of the debt secured by some, if not all, of the ships? If the lenders take the ships to settle part of the debt, Carnival would have no ships left and have no way to continue in business.
-
I would agree. I also wonder how much of the onboard spending increases they have been talking about during the last year were actually on board credit people received during the Covid cancellations. When people use that free onboard credit, it reduces the liability and increases revenue, but it’s not new or outside money.
-
They also missed revenue estimates by over 1/2 a billion dollars also $ 4.31 billion actual vs $ 4.95 billion expected. Losses were expected to be $ .12 per share and were $ .65, so almost 5 1/2 times larger. Neither of those are good, especially with the debt load they have. With many ships sailing at 100% or more during the quarter, and still missing revenue numbers, they have a lot of work ahead. https://www.theridgefieldpress.com/business/article/Carnival-Fiscal-Q3-Earnings-Snapshot-17477682.php

It was offered on Meraviglia in January and is in the pre-purchase options for my upcoming Divina cruise for $ 99.95.

Price Adjustment, OBC, or Upgrade After Final Payment?
JT1962 replied to Ronaldo807's topic in MSC Cruises
You can try, but I was told I was locked into the pricing that was in effect at final payment and would not receive onboard credit or an upgrade with the current free balcony promotion. -

“The country will no longer require travelers to show proof of vaccination, testing, or to submit health information via Canada's ArriveCan app, officials announced in a press conference on Monday.” https://www.travelandleisure.com/canada-drops-covid-travel-vaccine-testing-6743814

Since they were not running any trains into Canada (Fraser, Bennett Lake, Carcross) this year, and less cruise passengers were visiting after the rock slide due to ships diverting to other ports, those locomotives were probably not needed. They likely be used in the future when things (hopefully) return to normal.

A sailing was canceled in July for emergency repairs for an electrical issue. Maybe that issue has occurred again or people could be confused with what happened in July. https://www.cruisehive.com/msc-cruise-ship-suffers-engine-issue-sailings-canceled-for-repairs/76058

Aren’t all rates technically a “Reduced Rate Promotion”? Does anyone actually pay the full listed fare / brochure rate? If they adhere strictly to the wording of the rules, no one would get the Shareholder Credit.

Carnival has canceled visits to Grand Turk through at least September 30 due to damage at the pier. Three ships are affected so far. https://thepointsguy.com/news/grand-turk-cruise-ship-calls-canceled-fiona/

Does Port of Tampa close due to severe weather? Thinking about Ian.
JT1962 replied to jxtgreek's topic in Florida Departures
They will do whatever is needed to keep the ship and passengers safe. If needed, they will stay at sea another day or two, away from the storm, before returning to port. That would delay or cancel the next scheduled cruise, depending on the length of the cruise. It’s still too early to tell if this point what will happen or where the storm will hit. I saw MSC cruises sent an email to their passengers on a cruise leaving Port Canaveral on the 29th giving them the option to cancel or move their cruise. I’m sure Carnival will update all of those affected when they know more. -
Most things are different on MSC. From the MSC website: Is it possible to change devices once activated? No, if you activate a device, this device cannot be changed. https://www.msccruisesusa.com/on-board/internet-apps/wifi/local-content/faq-internet/internet
-
I believe you have to use the same device each time, so choose what you use the first time carefully.
-
They seem to change the embarkation time multiple times. I would show up at the pier when you are ready and they will generally let you on the ship. They don’t appear to enforce boarding times as strictly as other lines do.

*Non-US Residence* Updated Testing and Vaccination* (Caribbean cruise)
JT1962 replied to CL128's topic in MSC Cruises
It does not appear to be updated yet on the website. It’s possible they updated the app first. -
