Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. The customer is always right, even when they're wrong.
  2. I'm on the Silver Moon right now and just finished dinner on the second formal night. For both nights the vast majority of men wore dark sports coats or blazers with a tie. There were a few suits and a couple of tuxedos. The worst dressed person I saw in the dining room had casual slacks and shoes, a sweater with a tie and a jacket hanging off the chair. On informal nights about half the men wore dress shirts and dress pants with no jacket. Nobody I saw was turned away for not having a jacket. However I did see that the tie was in enforced in SALT tonight. Overall, I'd say that most people follow the spirit of the dress code rather than the letter and make an effort to elevate their dress on formal night, even if they aren't wearing tuxes.
  3. Thanks for sharing, The first article certainly makes sense. Those in power don't need to wear a suit. It's the people on interviews, making court appearances, and otherwise trying to please other people, that are wearing suits. Makes you wonder if we are dressing up for ourselves or for others. It certainly feels like I'm doing it to appease those that want to dress up. I'm not complaining about the dress code but I wouldn't be brining a tie if it wasn't "suggested' in the cruise company's literature.
  4. That looks like a fun meal, Neilio!
  5. Inflation has hit the Vegas strip. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and blackjack now pays out at 6:5 and not 3:2 at all the tables I saw. I don't play roulette but they also added a 000.
  6. I imagine they won't throw you out of the restaurant if you're wearing a sports coat with a tie. I have a navy sports coat (not a blazer with the gold buttons - it looks like a suite jacket) and a pair of navy pants I plan to wear with a tie and will most likely eat in the main dining room on formal nights (2 scheduled). I'm sailing next week so I'll let you know if they throw me out. All my suits are pre-covid size. 😞 I haven't worn my tux in over decade so good luck getting that on. I don't see needing a suit for any other reason for the foreseeable future. This will have to do.
  7. They weren't going to make you camp out in a tender. 😄 From what I've seen the Vista suite is first class accommodations. The balcony is nice but the Vista hardly seems like slumming it. I do look forward to seeing just how superior your veranda is compared to mine. 😛
  8. I'd suggest looking into one of the mirrorless cameras. They are small and light but have the advantage of having interchangeable lenses and the same basic control over the image you would have with a DSLR, and then some. 've been using an Olympus OM-D E-M10-Micro Four Thirds camera for quite a few years. I like it because the camera and available lenses are small and lightweight - perfect for travel. I can take a small camera bag that will fit inside a backpack and carry 5 lenses, without weight or bulk. There is also a wide variety of good quality lenses. The kit lenses are light and cheap and take better photos than they have a right. If you are looking for pro quality glass, they have that, too. Panasonic also makes Micro Four Thirds lenses that work on Olympus cameras and vice versa. Panasonic even makes some Leica branded lenses, that can run into the thousands, but the cheaper lenses yield good quality as well. I wouldn't take a vacation without my OM-D EM-10.
  9. I've learned from years of traveling with my family that the easiest way to ruin a vacation is to try and cram too much into one day. Just saying...
  10. I considered this for a while but ultimately decided that relying on an available locker at the bus terminal was too uncertain for me. I'm traveling with a group of 8. If it was just me or my wife and me, we would take the chance. I ended up springing for a private car that will drive us around all day, hold our luggage then take us to the airport. Cost is about $700 but with 8 people, it makes sense. It might not make financial sense for fewer peoeple.
  11. Turning meat or fish over on a hot rock is not exactly cooking.
  12. At 18 days out I thought I was in a similar situation, but I just went to check and we have been assigned suite 716, upgraded from a Vista GTY.
  13. If they know it's sub par they should take it off the menu temporarily.
  14. As someone who works in marketing with pricing responsibilities I would imagine they are using some kind of analysis on which to base their pricing. You would probably be surprised how low the coefficient of elasticity (measure of price sensitivity) is for folks in the top income bracket. I can consistently raise prices annually on average by 40% on this group with no incremental loss of customers. I won't divulge the company or product but it's a common subscription service. If I had to go by my gut, there is no way I would have the nerve to raise prices that aggressively. Ain't analytics great!?
