  1. The customer is always right, even when they're wrong.
  2. I'm on the Silver Moon right now and just finished dinner on the second formal night. For both nights the vast majority of men wore dark sports coats or blazers with a tie. There were a few suits and a couple of tuxedos. The worst dressed person I saw in the dining room had casual slacks and shoes, a sweater with a tie and a jacket hanging off the chair. On informal nights about half the men wore dress shirts and dress pants with no jacket. Nobody I saw was turned away for not having a jacket. However I did see that the tie was in enforced in SALT tonight. Overall, I'd say that most people follow the spirit of the dress code rather than the letter and make an effort to elevate their dress on formal night, even if they aren't wearing tuxes.
  3. Thanks for sharing, The first article certainly makes sense. Those in power don't need to wear a suit. It's the people on interviews, making court appearances, and otherwise trying to please other people, that are wearing suits. Makes you wonder if we are dressing up for ourselves or for others. It certainly feels like I'm doing it to appease those that want to dress up. I'm not complaining about the dress code but I wouldn't be brining a tie if it wasn't "suggested' in the cruise company's literature.
  4. That looks like a fun meal, Neilio!
  5. Inflation has hit the Vegas strip. I was just there a couple of weeks ago and blackjack now pays out at 6:5 and not 3:2 at all the tables I saw. I don't play roulette but they also added a 000.
  6. I imagine they won't throw you out of the restaurant if you're wearing a sports coat with a tie. I have a navy sports coat (not a blazer with the gold buttons - it looks like a suite jacket) and a pair of navy pants I plan to wear with a tie and will most likely eat in the main dining room on formal nights (2 scheduled). I'm sailing next week so I'll let you know if they throw me out. All my suits are pre-covid size. 😞 I haven't worn my tux in over decade so good luck getting that on. I don't see needing a suit for any other reason for the foreseeable future. This will have to do.
  7. They weren't going to make you camp out in a tender. 😄 From what I've seen the Vista suite is first class accommodations. The balcony is nice but the Vista hardly seems like slumming it. I do look forward to seeing just how superior your veranda is compared to mine. 😛
  8. I'd suggest looking into one of the mirrorless cameras. They are small and light but have the advantage of having interchangeable lenses and the same basic control over the image you would have with a DSLR, and then some. 've been using an Olympus OM-D E-M10-Micro Four Thirds camera for quite a few years. I like it because the camera and available lenses are small and lightweight - perfect for travel. I can take a small camera bag that will fit inside a backpack and carry 5 lenses, without weight or bulk. There is also a wide variety of good quality lenses. The kit lenses are light and cheap and take better photos than they have a right. If you are looking for pro quality glass, they have that, too. Panasonic also makes Micro Four Thirds lenses that work on Olympus cameras and vice versa. Panasonic even makes some Leica branded lenses, that can run into the thousands, but the cheaper lenses yield good quality as well. I wouldn't take a vacation without my OM-D EM-10.
  9. I've learned from years of traveling with my family that the easiest way to ruin a vacation is to try and cram too much into one day. Just saying...
  10. I considered this for a while but ultimately decided that relying on an available locker at the bus terminal was too uncertain for me. I'm traveling with a group of 8. If it was just me or my wife and me, we would take the chance. I ended up springing for a private car that will drive us around all day, hold our luggage then take us to the airport. Cost is about $700 but with 8 people, it makes sense. It might not make financial sense for fewer peoeple.
  11. Turning meat or fish over on a hot rock is not exactly cooking.
  12. At 18 days out I thought I was in a similar situation, but I just went to check and we have been assigned suite 716, upgraded from a Vista GTY.
  13. If they know it's sub par they should take it off the menu temporarily.
  14. As someone who works in marketing with pricing responsibilities I would imagine they are using some kind of analysis on which to base their pricing. You would probably be surprised how low the coefficient of elasticity (measure of price sensitivity) is for folks in the top income bracket. I can consistently raise prices annually on average by 40% on this group with no incremental loss of customers. I won't divulge the company or product but it's a common subscription service. If I had to go by my gut, there is no way I would have the nerve to raise prices that aggressively. Ain't analytics great!?
  15. Reviews need to be judged individually. What I like to do is look at the negative reviews and see what people are complaining about, then ask myself is that something that's going to impact my enjoyment? Complaints about poor service, cleanliness, and the general function of the boat are things that are more of a concern. The heaters on the pool deck aren't working and we're going to be in Northern Europe? A bit of a concern. Someone complaining about not having Coke Zero or their favorite scotch? Not a concern. Only you know what's important to you.
  16. We have a GTY Vista as well but haven't been assigned a cabin yet. We are about 35 days out. When did they assign the cabin?
  17. Being in a similar situation with an early disembarkation and 5 PM flight, I researched this quite a bit. My original plan was to take the bus the terminal and store the luggage there, but I didn't like the uncertainty of it, especially since there are 6 in our group. We didn't want to take an organized tour after being on a cruise ship for 10 days but we did want to have some time to explore the city without suitcases in tow. I ended up contacting a couple of tour companies and asked for a quote for a private tour. I was able to find a company that was willing to pick us up at the cruise terminal, supply a guide and give us the use of a vehicle for 5 hours. It worked out to about $120 per person. It would be too pricey if we had fewer people, but by the same token if it was just me, or my spouse and me, we would wing it.
  18. I have 6 in my group and booked a private car for about $225, or $37.50 PP. I used Snaeland Travel. https://www.snaeland.is/
  19. I've been looking into this and $650 isn't bad if it's split among a bigger group. I don't think you'll find much cheaper as I had prices from $700 to $1200 for a van to carry 6 + luggage for 5-6 hours depending on when we disembark. When you consider it costs about $40 per person or more just to get to the airport, an additional $70 PP for door to door transportation and the use of a car for several hours, it seems like it's worth it.
  20. Yes there are a few car services available. I was able to book a private car for 6 people and luggage from the airport to the cruise ship terminal for 204 Euros. I would imagine you could book a similar service for the reverse. I used Snaeland Travel. https://www.snaeland.is/
  21. Perhaps a little too charming as it's not a 4 star hotel, but if you like out of the way little places Hotel La Fenice is a favorite.
  22. Does Silversea ever allow for early embarkation? Our itinerary says embarkation at 2 PM. Our flight arrives at 9:00 AM. I figure it will probably be around noon if we go straight to the cruise ship. The ship sails at 9 PM. Should I head straight for the ship with the hope of getting onboard before 2 PM or will I likely be sitting around a cruise ship terminal for a couple of hours? Would I be better off getting some kind of tour/transfer? I'm not keen on spending money on a tour when I will be taking a fantastic 10 day tour that's going to be better than a van ride around Reykjavik. There could also be a flight delay, which may negate the need for spending time on a tour. I was hoping to catch one of the cheaper buses from I do know that everyone recommends coming in a day early, so before everyone posts come a day earlier and get a hotel room, that isn't an option unfortunately for various reasons.
  23. Interesting, because the company Luggage Lockers claims to have lockers at the BSI bus terminal, as well as several other locations around the city. It's probably best to contact them ahead of time. https://www.luggagelockers.is/ https://www.luggagelockers.is/contact-luggage-lockers.html
  24. The Atlantides were the daughters of Atlantis. It's not Italian, it's ancient Greek and would be pronounced at-LAN-ta-dees,
