  1. A server in the lido said the person was alright - I know I would have been terrified to be lifted off by helicopter in that fog!
  2. Roy, @rafinmd brought to my attention that we are now sailing at 5:30! Crazy Navigator still says Sailaway is at 4, but All Aboard is 5…. So I checked at the gangway
  3. Roy, you’re right! I hadn’t noticed , I mainly look at my Navigator app, and that still says Sailaway is 4 pm. I’ll have to check with the Frint Desk and see which is correct.
  4. So far, we haven’t seen any additional charge for the tax. We’ve had just a few drinks while in New York waters. Maybe HAL is treating us. I’ll check with others who don’t have HIA , and see how it’s being handled for them.
  5. After breakfast we went to the Crow’s Nest for a cappuccino and to have a look at the historic display that has been set up there. Lots of pictures and memorabilia. My pictures aren’t great because of the reflections, but you get the idea.
  6. I think this should be a “sticky” - it will be of interest for years to come!
  7. Mass was at 8 this morning, and didn’t end until almost 9. So we had a late breakfast in the lido for the first time. It seems to be mainly self-serve, except for things that have to be cooked. So I helped myself to my favourite smoked salmon and pecan pastry. And the coffee was good and hot.
  8. Dinner last night was just the two of us in Club Orange. We had a kir royale before, in the Ocean Bar, and chatted with Khay, who is having a busy time with all the visitors on board. Club Orange didn’t seem too busy when we are, about 6:30, but filled up by the time we finished eating. Our new manager , Wayan, gave us a nice corner table, when we could watch all the comings and goings. I had the fresh haddock and Pat had the Polish galumpki, the fish was lovely and it was really fresh, the lady at the next table said it was just brought on that morning. I am a bad “Live Frommer”, though , I always forget to take a picture of the starter! Dessert, rhubarb crisp and the cheese platter, there were crackers, but I had to ask for them!
  9. In fact, there were usually chairs set up over the dance floor - it would have been difficult to dance….
  10. Something like that- there were about 20 people there, two couples dancing.
  11. I forgot to mention that yesterday, after Happy Hour, we wandered by the BBKings room and stayed for some music by the Dance Band. There were about 20 people there and 2 couples dancing. Bring back Lincoln Center Stage!!
  12. On the Rotterdam now, we have a dance band which seems to be going to have 3 - 3/4 hour sets in the afternoon/early evening in the BBKings room. It doesn’t seem that popular, but you never know, it might spread to other ships.
  13. We had lunch in the Lido, and then I wandered around on deck 9 for a bit, taking pictures. Dive In Gelato Bar Scary outside staircase Seaview pool Lido pool - definitely roof is closed today! In the Spa Retreat, the manager let me peek in and take a couple of pictures.
  14. After seeing Martha and Tony off to visit their daughter, we decided to go for the short walk over to Pier 83 and take a 1-hour boat ride on the Circle Line, as recommended by our historian on board, Bill Miller. It was just as far as the Statue of Liberty and back again, so not too onerous! It is a rather overcast day and not warm, but they have to have had some good weather, as even the tulips are blooming.
  15. Good afternoon from New York. We are having a lovely time on Rotterdam, although both of us are having difficulties with going out and about. But it is nice to be able to just relax on board. We did walk a bit this morning, and took an hour’s boat ride as far as the Statue of Liberty and back. Perhaps tomorrow, a visit to the Intrepid, which is right next door. I hope to attach(!) a photo of my mother’s Fraser dress tartan kilt and all the trimmings. It was made for her on a visit to Scotland, I think when she was a teenager . It is all put together by hand, so it could be expanded or taken in. I sent it to a cousin in Vancouver a few years ago, as she has daughters who do Highland dancing. She was thrilled with it.
  16. After a nice breakfast of smoked salmon in CO, we headed for the Dutch Cafe, where someone from the shore is doing a tasting of all the liquors there - at 9 o’clock in the morning! There will be inspections today evidently and the ship is bustling-all filters are being changed in the stateroom hallways.
  17. And yes, we had a medical evacuation during the night. That must have been scary in the fog. off our verandah I saw a billboard of HAL “Travel is our tradition.” must be the new logo.
  18. We just went under the bridge. I think we are on the wrong side for the Statue of Liberty.
