Decorating your door!

i have for all the cruises we have been on, all of doors decorations have told a story..

i.e. one cruise i was sailing with my friend from another country (8000 miles away) . We put our history on the door ...

how we meet ..... here on CC roll call together same ship.. how we kept in contact with each other after we sailed the first time

what Carnival ships she sailed, what Carnival ships i have sailed

what ships we have sailed together.

and the fun part was we did our story on Carnival coasters. those door decorations set our door out from others and lead us home (our home for the week) those very late nights :).

We also used the door for messages to each other when one of us was doing something the other one did not want to do. our room steward left us messages on our door every day.

This will be our first cruise, our first together and it is going to be a special event for us both. We have laughed and smiled at some of the 'deck your door' forums and I like the idea of it. I'm Canadian, my partner is American so we have been having a chuckle over what we will put on the door. If you are on the NCL Jewel August 9th to Alaska have a look out for us! :)

When we sailed 11 nights on another line--we hung wreaths on the doors (it was the Christmas cruise).

Many in our hall said not only did they like our wreaths--they found their room by looking for ours!

I never do it and my opinion is that the whole idea is totally dumb. After all, the doors have numbers so you should not need decorations to find your room.

DON

Good grief.......you are a bundle of joy! You need to loosen up and not worry about what other people find fun! IMHO.....just skip those threads you don't "approve of" and reply to those you can help. No one needs to hear from a Negative Nelly!

I've read that decorating your door makes it easy to find. The hallways are long and everything looks the same everywhere. I personally had no problem finding our cabin.

That being said, I think it's fun! On our last cruise we were celebrating our anniversary and our daughters 6th birthday so we decorated the door and the room! :D

I recently began using the GEL decorations from my local Dollar Tree.

I purchase a few packs every time I go in and by the time I am doing the SINGLE DIGIT DANCE...I have more than enough to decorate any type of door in its entirety... Also have a few spare as other folks must love them too, because they seem to disappear a few at a time.

I usually find fish, umbrella, sun, beach chairs, ships and anything cruise and fun related.

My BFF is a whiz at decorating, I wish I would hVe taken a pic...maybe next time.

Wish I would have discovered them earlier. They weigh nothing, they are inexpensive and we just remove them and throw them away (whatever is left) at the end of the cruise.

Decorating the cabin door is a great way to share some lighthearted fun with fellow passengers and crew. Sure, some people may steal or write nasty things, but I've never had that happen in the 3 cruises I've decorated. Switching out the decorations for various ports or holidays only takes a few minutes each day since I re-use small round magnets(Home Depot) or poster putty. Usually I'll have one or two days of passenger participation with the decorations, such as a selfie-station with props or writing down their cruise pyramid, with a small reward such as a cruise itinerary magnet or gold coin for them to take. It's not unusual to get a few daily chuckles and positive comments from other passengers and the stewards in the area.

I think it started on Disney line. I always decorate my door. The kids love it and it helps to spot our room quickly. Sometimes its decorations on clearance from party city or from a dollar store. I put the 3m strips on to hang the decorations and they peel off perfectly and clean.

We decorated our two cabin doors this past December. I bought some removable window clings from the Dollar Store. Why? It took 3 minutes and was festive-ish. The only other Xmas decor on the entire Allure was a tree in the promenade so it was nice to have a little something as we got off the ship close to Christmas on the 20th.

Our next cruise is on Halloween and I will decorate for that as well. Our kids travel with us so I do it for them (and any kids walking by)

Happy decorating and share some fun,

What an awesome job. I can assure you our family stops and takes a look at the doors and appreciates the effort.

We decorated ours and it was tore down everyday. We finally took it down.

Some lines simply do not allow door decorations, and the stewards are instructed to remove them. Best to check with your TA, Cruise Critic threads, or even your steward when you arrive to be sure about decorating. Disney will only allow magnets. Some line have wood doors which will only take poster putty or 3M hangers to hang decorations.

Since Princess already decorates cabin doors for guests celebrating special occasions, I've always taken that as an okay to decorate as long as it does not damage or leave residue on the door. Also, never bring anything that you will miss if stolen or defaced.

Changing out decorations from day to day is fairly quick using magnets. On my Panama Canal cruise in March, my steward even wanted the decorations on the last day which I gladly gifted to him.

It was carnival they allowed it and other doors were done. I am sure it was a guest doing it.

We didn't decorate, and only saw 1 door that was decorated on the entire cruise. It was for a child's birthday.

Our next cruise will be our daughter's 1st. I may put something small/simple on our door just to help her tell which cabin is ours.

I wonder if window clings would stick to the door and stay for a whole week. They seem simple, inexpensive, and wouldn't take up much luggage space at all.

We decorated ours once with a Cool horseshoe and other things for Good Luck in the Casino and a cabin 1/2 way down the hallway stole our decorations and put them on their door 😳😳

I took them back and knocked on their door twice but they never answered lol
