Travlin Again Posted June 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2018 i am an American, and my cellular service is from ATT. Is it true that I would have to pay International calling rates while cruising?
Calliope Posted June 22, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2018 Not if you are traveling on any of the boats of The American Queen Steamboat Co., but service may or may not be available in certain remote areas through out the cruise.

Did you read that somewhere in the American Steamship website or literature?
TinCan782 Posted June 23, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 23, 2018 As far as I know, the Mississippi River is still in the USA. You may, or may not have (domestic) roaming charges depending on your plan.
NavyVeteran Posted November 12, 2019 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2019 Unlike an ocean cruise, a river cruise is always close to land. Ships are not allowed to offer their own cell service while close to land, so you would be using cell towers on shore. AT&T would not know - or care - that you are on a river cruise. LDVinNC Posted November 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2019 We found the service very spotty on the Mississippi but there were no extra charges.
nanatexas Posted March 19, 2020 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2020 We have Verizon and used it on the boat. We could get text message and phone calls in our room on deck 3. No data in the room. Once outside the room we had data. The boats wifi was spotty. There was a time on the river we did not have data. Overall we had good service on our phones.
