Norwegian Spirit

Just got off the Spirit today, the ship is in great shape IMO, they were laying new carpet in the hallways of deck 11 (new fish carpet) during port days, lots of cleaning, varnishing and painting happening. I would sail her again tomorrow if I could!

Reports aren't around too much of what happened - mostly mechanical. We sailed pre-drydock and it was in pretty good shape for being the oldest ship in the fleet. The next drydock it is getting completely gutted though as it sounds.

Once a ship gets to a certain age it has to go more often. They told us on the BTS tour that it is like every 2.5 or 3 years.

Her last drydock was more for under the hood. NCL wasn't really going to invest much money in her until they made a decision on whether or not to keep her. I guess they have so expect a larger sum of money to be dropped on her the next time around. She's one of three ships left in the fleet with fixed screw propulsion and the only one actually designed for a completely different cruise line.

Her retention of her unique oriental decor is what I'm most concerned about. Given she's returning to her original home of the Orient, she should keep most of it. What I expect to see taken out was what was randomly added - Le Bistro in favor of expanding the casino area. I also expect the art gallery to revert back to the private room of the casino as well. The rest of her decor is in line with the market she will be going to serve. It'll be interesting what they do to her but hopefully it's not too crazy!

Per Andy Stuart, the Spirit will not be refurbished specifically for the Asian market. It's going to be more in line with the other ships that have undergone Edge enhancements. I don't foresee them taking Le Bistro away.

Now that I just caught the article you got that from (not from CC surprisingly).... I guess they'll probably make the whole ship flow better. LeBistro might actually fit in better and more then likely the old casino cage area next to it and the conference rooms will be re-done to make the whole area flow better. I just hope they leave the Asian decor untouched in some places. Cagney's Steakhouse has amazing decor in it from the wall panels to the ceiling! Love the Spirit!
