Pearl Pool: Children's Water Wings/Life Vests?

In our umpteen NCL cruises, I've never noticed if there were kids' water wings or life vests available at the pool. We've never had to tread water in the hot tub. But since we'll have six g'kidlets with us this time, all of whom are good swimmers btw, I want to make sure they'll be hunky dorey. The four, five and six year olds are my big concern. The Catchphase in our family is "Meemaw worries". :halo:

So, will I have to sit on the edge of the pool with a big net or can I just watch and worry from my lounge chair?

Obviously I'm no swimmer and have spent far too much time in the casino or places of imbibement. Childrens Pool you say? What's the difference between that and the wading pool and the regular pool? Is this actually for serious kid swimmers or just splashers? How deep vs how deep? Lordy, just when I thought I knew everything about the Pearl...

Why don’t you just bring water wings? Deflated they wouldn’t take up almost no room.

Have water wings, will travel (Boomer reference ) then. Thanks for the responses!

Criminy, I myself could use them. But they'd have to be the super huge Victoria Secret type (without the other VS accoutrements, 'cause that ship has sailed).

This is just me, but if I had a 4, 5, or 6 year old in water that was over their head I sure as heck would be sitting on the side of the pool watching them...water wings or not.

Flame me but any child that needs water wings or life jackets should be in the kids pool not the main pool. When we were on a cruise to Bermuda the kids pool was empty but the main pool was loaded with kids in water wings. We never were able to get near the pool. Most parents weren’t watching closely so they had to have a staff member sitting on the stage watching all the kids.

I'm certainly not going to flame you but I don't understand what I perceive as anger (unfortunately, the written word and a few emojis don't ensure getting our points over as well as we might like). I'm trying to get info (including details on the kids' pool), make sure my family is safe and see to it they have fun without being nuisances to others. I truly am sorry you had a bad experience (we've had them too) but not all kids are Beastly Boys and Ghastly Girls. Honest. :)

. As I previously stated, the “family pool”, was 5 feet deep on the Escape. Why couldn’t they build something around 3 feet? Much more family friendly, especially since most people just stand around in the water

The family pool is for those under 18, what are kids 10+ going to do in 3 feet of water? All of my kids could swim in the deep end of any swimming pool by 4. On our last cruise, my 14, 14, and 16 year old weren’t permitted in the adult pool, but they shouldn’t be stuck in a baby pool.

Well, we have taken 7 grandkids on a cruise; all but one were very good swimmers--we live on a lake and they all learned to swim ASAP. I am also a former lifeguard and taught swimming lessons in college; I have taught all the grandkids to swim.

IMO, it is ok to bring the water wings or other swim aids, but it is still necessary that an adult, or more than one with six kids, has their eyes on those in the pool at all times. Sitting on the edge, or being in the water with them is what I would do and is what we did do.

People often think that the swim aids make things perfectly safe; not true, nothing beats direct supervision. I can tell that you want to do what is safest for the kids; I am often horrified to see all the unsupervised children in the pools.

Also, to everyone with small children, kids often start to drown without making the big fuss you would think they would. They don't usually start flailing the water and screaming, they just slowly sink under the water with no fuss at all.

The ship doesn't provide life-jackets or water wings for pool use, you can bring your own. You do need to supervise from the pool edge it only takes a second.

We also brought our own life jackets for the younger kids as we were going to be doing some beach days and our home rule was near the water life jacket on, so the same for being on vacation.

We watched the kids closely at the beach but I figure if a wave came and knocked them off their feet, or washed over them while playing in the sand it would give me a few extra seconds to get them.
