Asia cruise

We are taking our first ever Regent Med cruise in October.

I know that we are going love it so much that I am already

thinking about where I would like to go next on Regent in 2019.

What is the best time of the year to take a cruise in the Far East?

If you have taken an Asian cruise , did you enjoy it?

We have done both cruises and land trips to Asia and love that part of the world. The countries, cultures, food and weather are very different - depending upon the parts of Asia that you wish to visit. For instance, Japan, Hong Kong and at least parts of China are cold in the winter but can be extremely warm during the summer. Different countries also have monsoon season (I don't think that Regent would sail during that part of the year).

So, if you could give us an idea of where in Asia you would like to visit, we could give better feedback.

Very excited for you - you should love your Mediterranean cruise next month!

We love Regent; have done 12 Regent cruises. Our best was our Dubai to Singapore on Voyager in November 2017. I wrote a trip report here in December 2017. Bottom line: November weather is tolerable in an otherwise HOT and Humid part of the world and the sights are breathtaking - good for a thousand photos. They are repeating this itinerary in 2019.

We sailed from Bali to Hong in March/April 2018 on the Voyager. Temperatures were really hot except in Hong Kong.

Singapore is always hot since it is so close to the Equator. Although we have not been to Vietnam, we have been to Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia multiple times. Despite the heat, these are amazing places to visit.

Thank you TC and Deep Frreze perhaps we will book something while on

our Med cruise in October. Our TA mentioned you will get a better rate if

you were to book while on a cruise. Have you experienced that?

Well, you get an onboard booking discount and also receive a price guarantee and some on board credits for the cruise that you are on when making the booking. We try to book onboard whenever possible. The Cruise Consultant onboard generally gets quite busy at the end of the cruise so you may want to make an appointment early in the cruise. There is no pressure whatever - the Cruise Consultant is there to help and will transfer your booking to your TA so they do not out either.

DW and I are on Voyager starting October 7th from Athens to Athens. I will also make an on-board reservation. This has lots of nice benefits with little downside risk. We now make all Regent reservations this way.

Some cruises have excellent promotions if booked on board, such as a very low deposit requirement. During the evening turn down service, you will find notices regarding any promotions from the cruise consultant on your bed, along with the Passages for the next day.

The cruise consultant will transfer the booking to your TA on record - if you are planning to change TA's, be sure to let them know.

Previously the deposit was not posted to you credit card until the end of the cruise, now the deposit is posted when you make the booking.

I believe — If you make your new reservation within 30 days of your cruise, you can get all the benefits except the lower deposit. When we see a cruise we like, we go for it early to get our cabin choice.

Agree with you. We have seen very few (if any) promotions onboard (and have always had our deposit checks asked soon after making the deposit - at least in the last 14 years). If there is, it is a promotion it is usually for itineraries that are not filling up very well. This will likely not be the case on any Asian itinerary as they are quite popular.

TC looking at one in December that goes Singapore to Singapore...going

to Thailand, Vietnam,Malaysia and cruising the South China Sea.

December is an ideal time of year to visit the countries on your itinerary.

Interesting countries, friendly people and lots to see.

Asia is one of our favourite parts of the world for vacations; either cruising or land based.

Just one warning about your itinerary: The port for Bangkok is Laem Chabang which is about a 2 hour drive from the city so be prepared for a long day if you intend to take an excursion into Bangkok. The resort of Pattaya is only about 20 minutes from Laem Chabang if you want to do something with less travelling.

As others have advised, book while on-board or within 30 days prior to achieve extra booking benefits (including low deposit); the 30 days prior could be an added bonus for you as there may be some price increases on 1st October.

(see small print at the bottom of the web-page regarding deposits, which vary depending on the grade of suite)

We have done 2 Asia cruises. We enjoyed both of them very much.

We did Bejing to Bangkok starting in early March. It was cool to cold for the 3 day pre cruise tour in and around Beijing but it got progressively warmer as we moved south.

We did Toyko to Hong Kong in October. It was mostly around Japan which is why we took it. the weather was very pleasant.

Highly recommend visiting Asia.

Good luck with your choice.
