Current TV Stations on Breakaway

Yes, I know for many of you turning on a TV while you on a cruise is unthinkable. But for the rest of us, does anyone know what channels are currently airing on the Breakaway?

Normally there are 3 or 4 news stations (both global and US), a few sports channels, a 'movies we love' type thing that has 4 or 5 different newish movies, 'TV shows we love' same idea as the movies, and a handful of ship channels. I believe these are fleet wide options, I don't think there are any ship specific channel line ups.

I know. Guess part of me was hoping that the choices got a little better since the last time we cruised in 2016. Don't understand how they don't show your ESPN's, TBS', Food Network's etc.

Because you are not in the USA any more, Toto. You are on ship flagged in Bermuda catering to their non-US clients.

I would think that a ship leaving from NYC, with probably over 95% of the pax from the US, would cater to US clients. Instead of airing a sports channel that seems to show cricket 24/7.

Besides the obnoxious cost that NCL would need to subscribe to the channels most US pax would be used to..... NCL is in the money making business and if you're in your room binging on ESPN 30 for 30..... you aren't spending money

Casino's show a full compliment of channels, people still spend tons of money while they are there.

I also like to watch TV sometimes. The best TV I have had is on Carnival, they had ABC, CBS and NBC, they also had TNT which was nice if I woke up early in the morning. I always bring a portable DVD player on other lines where the TV isn't so good.

Read on the Carnival Boards that they recently stopped broadcasting ABC, CBS, NBC, and ESPN..

Hotels do it. Aren't cruise ships just floating hotels?

Casino's show a full compliment of channels, people still spend tons of money while they are there.

You may sleep like at a hotel.... how many hotels have a captive audience that can only spend money in their establishment...... most hotels I've stayed at had a front door I could walk out of and head down the street... on a cruise ship they have exclusive access to get has much out of you in a limited time..... and if people are travelling to a casino the expectation is that they will drop their fair share but the cruise isn't geared towards casino going folks..... I'm not voicing my thoughts

I tend to doubt that anyone would book and pay for a cruise only to sit in their room and watch TV all day and night. If anyone did it would likely be a disabled person who can't get around unless someone takes them or someone who is sick. I personally think it's nice to come back to your cabin at night and be able to choose a good movie or TV show to fall asleep with....or a sea day afternoon for an hour or two. That hardly takes away from people spending money on the ship. Actually, we rarely spend money on the ship other than excursions and occasional casino plays anyway.

Part of the issue is that the shop is moving all the time. Some times of the year they may be in Europe others in Alaska and yet others in the Caribbean just to name a few. A lot of satellites now use beam forming too. Where you get one station when in a certain area and another just a few hundred miles away. Those who have satellite TV, think how can a cable channel show you a commercial for a local owned business on a nationwide channel. Again they beam different commercials to different areas.

Since cruise lines usually sign deals for fleet wide access they may only have a limited selection of what they can get and not have to keep changing channel line ups. Licensing to show the channels also can be limited to where it can be shown too
