MsBST2 Posted June 9, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 9, 2018 NW Pearl or Princess Star for Alaska? Any thoughts
casofilia Posted June 9, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2018 One thing to look at is the currency and where you are from. Princess ships work best in Australia if you can pay in AUD as the DSC charge is built into the cost.
YVRBassElectric Posted June 9, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 9, 2018 looks like they have similar itineraries - on the NCL board you are going to hear from fans of NCL, I would read a couple of reviews to get an idea of the difference between the ships & passengers. My sister loves Princess, her husband is 31 years older than I am, his idea of a great vacation, would bore me to tears! I like NCL's Freestyle concept - I can eat where I want, when I want & there are options if I want to wear a cocktail dress or jeans. We have celebrated 3 Anniversaries on the Pearl but haven't sailed her since 2015 (we can afford longer, different vacations now)
casofilia Posted June 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 9, 2018 We use both NCL and Princess and find the main difference is in the "freestyle" dining as against the "anytime" or "traditional" dining. Otherwise they are very similar; shows, activities, shorex, crew.
zqvol Posted June 9, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 9, 2018 Princess has a reputation of being the best in AK, short of the luxury lines. The real key to AK is the ports, not the ships. I would go with who ever gives you the most time in port, and would also consider if one line or the other is offering one way trips. To me a one way trip is a key factor. newmexicoNita Posted June 19, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 19, 2018 We border on being anti Princess as we have always been a little disappointed in them, but in their favor, they probably know how to do Alaska better than any other line, especially if you are adding a land package to the cruise. Our travel agent feels the same say, not a huge Princess fan, but says they do know Alaska.
ace2542 Posted June 19, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Never been on princess. But on NCL you can get the drinks package and you have O Sheehans for late night food.
