Casey2 Posted February 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2018 We will be on the POA in April. We have a 3 PM flight on Hawaiian Airlines to New York. Our plan is to disembark early, store our luggage at the pier and walk to the Iolani Palace where we hope to do a 9 AM tour. We were thinking of getting back to the pier, claiming our luggage and depart for the airport around noon. We would then like to check in and eat lunch at the airport. Is this doable? CruiserBruce Posted February 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2018 Sure. You need to be checking in for your flight by 1:30. I would go over to the NCL board and see if NCL offers a luggage service so you can minimize or eliminate your baggage issues.
cccole Posted February 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 15, 2018 Make reservations for your tour at the Iolani Palace. I have become a fan of the self-guided tours but both guided and self guided are good. If you wait to arrive at the Palace and hope to get your preferred time slot you may be disappointed. Your plan sounds great to me. If you get through TSA with enough time to have lunch in Terminal 3, The Local has good food and you may be able to get a table overlooking the gardens below. In Terminal 2 we like Stinger Ray's. It is easy walking inside the airport from terminal to terminal and the walk is nice when you have long flights. PCWalton1 Posted February 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2018 I agree with the need for a reservation. We had one and I saw them turning someone away without one. We also enjoyed the self guided tour, the headset has lots of good information.

chengkp75 Posted February 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2018 Just remember that in addition to normal airline check in and security, you will have to have all checked and carry-on bags checked by Agriculture first, and sometimes the lines here can be long as well. cruzn single Posted February 16, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2018 It is definitely doable, but I would depart for the airport so that you are there by about 1pm or shortly thereafter. I fly annually to Oahu via Hawaiian Airlines. Most of the mainland flights on Hawaiian depart in early afternoon, so that terminal is pure chaos at that time of day. Did you go downstairs to the kitchen and other exhibits? I just love the history at the Iolani Palace. Cherie

Whitnee1 Posted May 20, 2018 #11 Share Posted May 20, 2018 How far from the terminal is the airport? Is a 1:00 PM flight doable with easy walk off?
CruiserBruce Posted May 20, 2018 #12 Share Posted May 20, 2018 A quick look at Google Maps shows about 5.5 miles, 15 minutes drive, depending on traffic and which area you get dropped off at.
