cruiserking Posted May 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2017 I remember the horse races at kid on board the Cunard ships. Back in 2006 my wife and I purchased a horse on the QM2 lucky number six won us $600. It was so much fun to decorate it and pose for pictures at the Winners Circle. I don't understand why the cruise lines don't feature this event anymore, it was always so much fun. Jonathan

rkacruiser Posted May 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2017 I do recall seeing this in my very early days of cruising, circa 1970's. Then, I thought it an odd form of entertainment though obviously enjoyed by many guests. But, I think offering such was before the days of the larger casinos on today's ships that probably offer a much greater return for whatever investment in Staff resources the ship must supply to offer "race horses". cruiserking Posted May 31, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted May 31, 2017 They had this on Star Princess in November. Sent from my iPad using Forums Well, that's heartening to hear that this cruise line tradition is still alive and well on the high seas. Hope these races gallop over to the Regal in time for our fall cruise. ;) Jonathan Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Forums mobile app
jagsfan Posted May 31, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 31, 2017 I think people want more bells and whistles now. Cruising in the 80's was less uptown and more fun. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

EBFURR Posted June 15, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 15, 2017 Royal Caribbean had it up into the early 2000's, at least on the "smaller" ships. We really enjoyed it. Never bought a horse but always bet on the races. We would win or lose just a few bucks but it was great fun. Now we have those giant TVs blaring Justin Bieber videos. Progress. I think not. Jonathan Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Forums mobile app Yours is an interesting idea and I think would be an excellent addition to the entertainment program, particularly for long cruises. It would add "something different" to a cruise. I recently realized that in some areas of life, what was "old is now new".

I hope someone at Cunard, Princess or Royal Caribbean takes at gander at this one. ;) Jonathan Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T337A using Forums mobile app
Nanarrow Posted October 15, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 15, 2017 We bought a horse on a cruise in 1996. (Sovereign it's) It's name was Capital Gains...and it went everywhere with us! I spent half my honeymoon promoting this horse! We came in 3rd...it was a blast! Who needs a flow rider when you have a wooden horse on a stick decorated with cheap decorations! Total blast!!
