Whats on your CD?

Ok, heres a question for you all. If you we're making a CD for your upcoming cruise, what 5 songs must be on it?

For me:

1) Bright Side of the Road, Van Morrison

2) Proud Mary, Creedance Clearwater Revival

3) Kokomo, Beach Boys

4) What a Wonderful World, Louis Armstrong

5) Take 5, Dave Brubeck

Of course the CD would contain all kinds of great songs as my musical tastes are very diverse, but these are my 5 must haves.

I'd be interested in hearing some of your other favorites.

I like this thread...good idea! But VERY TOUGH to come up with only 5 songs.

Now, the song selection would vary based on destination but I think I would choose...

1) Where the Streets Have No Name - U2

2) Let's Get it On - Marvin Gaye

3) No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley

4) Every Breath You Take - The Police

5) Don't Leave Me This Way - Thelma Houston

I'm not thrilled with my list and do have the right to modify as better songs pop into my head at 2am...or in the shower...or driving to work...:p

This is really an amazing thing to think about! My musical taste is very, VERY varied, and I am having a hard time with this one. Rather than thinking about a theme for the cruise, I think I would have to go with songs I could not go for a whole two weeks without ever hearing. Sort of like my "stranded on a dessert island with one CD" CD!:D

1) "Dreams" by Van Halen

2) "Where The Streets Have No Name" by U2

3) "Four Seasons" by Vivaldi (okay, fine, it's not a SONG, but it's one section of my CD, so it counts as one choice!)

4) "All Good Gifts" from the Godspell soundtrack

5) Something by Benny Goodman (sorry, I cannot pick just one!)

Take care,

Emmie

Five songs?! That is a hard limit to stick to. My five for cruising with DH

1) It Wasn't Me by Shaggy

2) Lady in Red by Chris de Burgh

3)From This Moment On by Shania Twain

4)Truly madly Deeply by Savage Garden

5) I Said I loved You, But I lied by Michael Bolton

ohhhh, this is good. Only 5, though?

"I'm already gone" the Eagles, for the slobs still at work

"Don't worry, be happy" by Bobby McFerrin for when the cruise line can't find our luggage...;)

"18 till I die" by Bryan Adams for the par-tay (and we're not EVEN going to talk about how long ago 18 really was)

"Sailing" by Christopher Cross for watching the sun come up

"Conga" by Gloria Estefan -- might as well make standing in line fun, right? Or "Turn the beat around" if the line's too long...

This looks amazingly like the list my daughter would put together... although the fact that you left out Carmen would have her crushed. She saw Denyce Graves this weekend and is determined to overcome her looming hatred of singing in French in order to master this part! LOL!!

BTW - your #1 is my ALL TIME FAVORITE piece of music!!

As for ME...

1. Anything Jimmy Buffet, especially from the Beach House on the Moon CD

2. Kenny Chesney

3. Gloria Estefan

4. Hate to admit it - Ricky Martin

5. Frank Sinatra

Can't just narrow it down to songs though!

Funny you should mention this - DH & I were just deliberating what songs to download to our Mini iPods for our trip...

I hate to say it - but no one on these boards would care for my choice in music. I basically like all kinds of music, except some country & some "classic" rock - but prefer to listen to more what my kids like, which most adults hate.

We find most of the DJ's have a great selection of music onboard and we like the "after hours" when the DJ (usually in the Crow's Nest) will take requests.

On our cruise last year on the Maasdam - I requested a specific song and a young girl (21-22) turned to me and said, "you know that song?" like she couldn't believe someone my age would! I had a huge laugh.

Let's see .... How about

Back in the Day – Blues Traveler

Homecoming – Green Day

Daniel – Elton John

Fast Car – Tracy Chapman

Graceland – Paul Simon

Or ... How about every KBCO Studio C CD ever issued (all 16).

(OT to ekerr, small world, etc.: my son is at a play at the Arvada Center today.)

Very small, isn't it? Do you have all the KBCO Studio C CD's?... that used to be my favorite radio station.

Ekerr19, be careful when you say no one. Me and my 17 year old listen to a lot of the same music. I am a big fan of alternative rock and most modern music. I've long been bored with "classic rock". About the only modern music genre I dont really care for is HipHop/Rap. And even some of that is tolerable to me.

Ah, a man after my own heart, LOL! I am so over classic rock - I can hardly stand it. I am no huge fan HipHop & Rap, but I do like some of it - I like things that are new so I have a hard time understanding why "oldies" are still so popular - don't people get tired of hearing the same thing?

I also like anything that I can dance to - on the Maasdam last year, the kids just loved "hey yeah" by Outkast and it's such a great dance tune, I kind of got into that genre - for a little while. ;) I have a dance favorite by the Bloodhound Gang that I usually request.

So what alternative music are you bringing? Any good CD's for song requests?

My wife has beat the whole selection process for our cruise. She's downloading all of our CD's to her iPod....all 400 of them....minus the Christmas selection. :) She does a few a night and many on the weekends as it takes some time but we'll have everything from Country to Classical......

No respectable CD collection would be complete without the following songs:

Seven Nation Army, by The White Stripes

Cochise & Gasoline, by Audioslave

Interstate Love Song, by Stone Temple Pilots

Kryptonite, by 3 Doors Down

White Discussion, by Live

Glycerine, by Bush

Crawling in the Dark, by Hoobastank

Falling Away from Me, by Korn

The Anthem & Festival Song, by Good Charlotte

I could go on and on, but you get the idea.

It would all be Jimmy Buffett [that's with 2 T's, btw].

The hard part is choosing which songs!

1. La Vie Dansante

2. A Pirate Looks at Forty

3. Boats to Build

4. Five O'Clock Somehwere [with Alan Jackson]

5. Margaritaville [can't leave it out]

My songs are from a whole different era:

Avalon---Al Jolsen

reminds me of the South Pacific

Begin the Beguine---Artie Shaw

there's a wonderful story about the title and Fiji

You Belong To Me---Jo Stafford

mentions so many wonderful things to see in this world

Let's Face the Music And Dance---any version

reminds me the romance of a cruise is so much better than real life

Stardust---Nat "King" Cole

my favorite version of my second favorite song. can't leave home without it

With about 1,000 of my "favorite" songs loaded on my mp3 player, it is really hard to choose only 5 songs to put on a cruise CD, but here goes:

1. Grieg's "An Den Fruhling" as recorded by James Last

2. "This Almost was Mine" by Bobby Darin

3. "Dream a Little Dream of Me" by Mama Cass

4. "That's All" by Mel Torme

5. "Since I Fell for You" by Lenny Welch

I am in agony in having to select only 5!!!!!!!:(
