Do you think NCL owes them anything?

Knowing the havoc IRENE has caused thus far, delay and extensions for others, but do you feel those whose cruise is shortened by (1) day should receive something from NCL?? (OBC etc.???)

Afterall it is chance you take sailing during Hurricane season.....

What are your thoughts???

It is very clear that they are under no obligation, that is what your travel insurance is for!!!

Would insurance even cover that????

I love NCL, but if I paid for a 7 day cruise and didn't get it, I'd want something....

Well, I'm on the cruise, so obviously biased, but I would feel this way about any sailing, honestly.

I KNOW they owe us nothing, I KNOW it's in the contract, I KNOW the weather is out of NCL's control, I KNOW they make decisions to keep us all safe, and truthfully, I am happy to lose the day in order to keep everyone safe and also still get 6 days of our trip.

All that said, and especially given that Celebrity has already announced a credit for the SAME EXACT situation and with the bad press RCCL is getting this week for leaving pax and not offering any help.....I really believe they should throw us an OBC. It doesn't even have to be 1/7 of what we paid. Throw $50 or $100pp OBC to everyone. It wouldn't cost them much in the big picture and would go a LONG way to better my (and i'm sure others') opinion of NCL right now.

I'm very disappointed at the lack of communication thru all this. I GET that they have to wait and the storm could change at a moment's notice. But I would've just appreciated them updating their website with "hey we dont have any news yet, but we are still monitoring, etc etc"...instead of looking at that SAME update on their site from 8/24 til 8/26 at 2:50pm. They also updated their Facebook page well before their website. Just poor customer service.

Obviously you can see from my sig I'm an NCL fan. We had issues on our last 2 cruises as well so my feelings aren't all based on this one trip. I think maybe it's finally time for a break when we book our next cruise. An OBC wouldn't totally change my mind...but when recommending NCL in the future, you can believe it will factor in.

Oh and our group is 40 ppl, who plan to spend a great deal of money on the ship. We are spending almost $100pp just on the specialty dining. That is not counting the casino, shops, drinks, etc. We have no problem spending the money and still plan to have a great time.

I'm just saying throwing us a bone would go a long way for them. Hopefully they change their mind.

IMO that's the chance you take sailing during hurricane season. I'd rather be safe.

If you want 1/7 of your cruise back, are they going to charge the people stuck at sea more cause they have an extra day?

We get hurricanes every year, this isn't something new.

We were on ccl Legend in 2004 when it was delayed due to a medical emergency. They told us we would board at 8 pm the following night. We boarded at 1 am. We were given a $10 OBC for missing lunch I know we had travel insurance back then but I do not remember if I tried to get one day's fare. CCL is giving 1 day fare as an OBC for the hurricane

Very interesting where this is all going......

I think we all would - in a perfect world.

However, can you truly blame NCL??? Hell no!!! It isn't there fault that the weather isn't cooperating. Get real!!!

I agree that they need to do something just for public relations. That being said, I know they don't owe anyone anything and that is why the rates are typically lower during hurricane season. Plus the ship is losing money by cutting the trip short.

I would be a little upset by the lack of communication though. Maybe NCL could negotiate some good hotel rates for the day everyone is out. I am sure that some people booked their own flights back and may not be able to make any changes.

Let us know how it shakes out. Stay safe!

What if you lost 2 days...3 days...

NCL gets away with it because it's a hurricane???

Sorry...I don't buy it.

BUT I have enough faith IN NCL to feel that they will compensate the passengers somehow.

Will the captain hit the throttle and get us to Bermuda for 3 days or keep it slow?

I don't expect anything but some sort of credit would be nice. I almost feel as if some of my expense has gone to the folks that are on the Gem now for their extra day.

But...... I'm also hoping everyone is safe in their journeys this weekend.

I actually wanted to be in NYC on Sunday just for the experience. Does that sound silly or does anyone else feel that way?

Don't think NCL owes anybody an OBC. I do think they need to do a better job communicating with passengers.

Agreed! I wasn't on this sailing but was following it for those that were. If I were, so unacceptable as far as the timeline of communication. If they (NCL)didn't know - post that! "Awaiting information with a current date and time". That's all. People want to know what to do - at least let them know that more information is forth coming in a MUCH more timely manor than how this was handled for sure!!!

I spoke to a very nice NCL rep this afternoon after they posted that we wouldn't be leaving until Monday. She told me that we will arrive as scheduled in Bermuda on Wednesday morning and spend the full three days there as scheduled.

I also asked if we would be receiving any kind of compensation for the missed day. I was told it was too early to tell and that decision would be made at a later time.

I do have travel insurance and will see if the delay is covered. But I do agree that they should do something. It would just be good PR.

They are definitely not losing money. The next trip is shorter, but the cruise before is longer. Its not like the ship is sitting empty. They are out at sea too, the casino will be open all night. Also, since they left Bermuda a day early, that is even more time the casino was open. They always make more money on sea days. I'm not saying they left to make more money or anything like that. I'm just saying, trust me, they aren't losing anything!!

My heart goes out to all those affected by Hurricane Irene . I know the excitement that goes into planning a cruise and there is nothing worse then your vacation being ruined by a storm of this nature. This was not part of the plan when you made your reservations.

I personally would be very upset and disappointed if I were on this upcoming sailing . This exact time last year we were getting ready to board a ship to bermuda from NYC with two impending storms that might have ruined our cruise. Luckily it didn't. But I do remember the panic I felt up until the very end.

While yes this is hurricane season , it's also summer vacation for alot of people who can only take time off of work / school during these months .

This may be someones first cruise and maybe their last because of this. It may be a First of something for alot of people.

Hurricane season lasts for 5 months it's not like it's a window of a few weeks to worry about.

I think some sensitivity would go along way here instead of wondering if NCL owes them anything.

I think we as cruise critic members should be wishing for the path of Irene to change drastically so no ones itinerary has to be interrupted . Afterall, we're all cruise lovers here .

I'm saying an extra prayer tonight for all those on this weekends cruises.

It would be nice if NCL or others did a little something extra for their guests whether they had to or not .

Goodnight all .

From what I can tell, you have a large group (40) and rightfully so you feel with that amount of people you are owed something. I also book large groups for a living (meeting planner). However, all of my negotiating would have taken place prior to the sail date. I would not expect the vendor (NCL) to feel obligated to do anything at this point. That should have been covered in the beginning if you were the planner. I would love to see that your group ends up with some sort of "gift" from NCL but I certainly would not hold it against them if you don't. Again....they have no control over the weather, Hope you have a great cruise!!! :)

IMO if they give any OBCs it will be a goodwill gesture and good for PR. Do I think they should or need to...NO

I look at it a little differently perhaps.

NCL risks everyone thats on the ship right now by promising them, no matter what Irene decides to do, to get them to their disembarkation on time and so others may get on the ship on time. Make sense to anyone...of course not.

So NCL is in no way responsible for the delay of the embarkation and therefore not responsible to reimburse anyone.

Do I think NCL will, yes probably.

I'm kinda surprised that many don't feel anything should be given as compensation. No, a hurricane is not NCL's fault, but a 6 night cruise should indeed cost less than a 7 night cruise so I would expect something.

Will the people currently on board getting an extra night have to pay extra for their dsc? I would absolutely not pay 7 nights of service charge for a 6 night cruise.

But what would the cost be if you sailed that 7th night??? I think most would be "praying to the porcelin God" as they say. Rough seas...no like!!!
