LoriPhil Posted September 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2009 It's $175/adult passenger. We're taking the bus up/train down on Sept 11th.
Guitar Ed Posted September 2, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 2, 2009 We paid $240 for a trip earlier this month. They may have AAA rate. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

You took the much longer train trip, didn't you? The lower price is for the train to Fraser and then the bus to Carcross and back to Skagway. Guitar Ed Posted September 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2009 Texas Tillie, you are correct, we took the 9 hour trip. It was a fun relaxing day. We learned about the gold rush (I never knew, the gold rush was 500 miles North and they traveled on the Yukon River to get there), had a nice lunch in Bennett and some very light hiking in the area, and a great small bus ride back. The best part on the long trip (at least on this trip) it was a different train with only a few cars. The service was very personalized.

Sunny AZ Girl Posted September 3, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 3, 2009 I e-mailed Chilkoot several days ago asking about next year. They told me that they will be opening the reservations in October. There are not prices available yet for 2010.....just in case someone else is looking ahead!:D
JSWalk Posted September 3, 2009 #10 Share Posted September 3, 2009 JSwalk - how did you like the tour? We are doing it in two weeks and the 3.5 - 4 hours sounded real good to me. DaveOKC We enjoyed it. It was late getting started because they had had a derailment early that morning. But other than that it was okay. There was alot of beautiful scenery and the bus ride back was good also. We did not see any wildlife though. I was hoping we would. We felt the 3-1/2 hour tour was enough for us. After watching a video of the train coming down and listening to the brakes squeak the whole way, I am glad we did the train up and bus back. By the way there is a restroom on board and it was very clean. They also have water on board to drink. And the suggestion to sit on the left going up is a good one. There is more to see on that side. DaveOKC Posted September 3, 2009 #11 Share Posted September 3, 2009 JSwalk - thanks for the input. We booked the train up, now glad we did. We are departing at Noon so we will have plenty of time before and after the excursion. DaveOKC
