Shogun Posted September 5, 2009 #8 Share Posted September 5, 2009 Hi There, Golden was the first Princess ship that I ever saw, she was then the first Princess ship that I went on, and as it was a B2B 14 Caribbean it means she was also my 2nd and then when she came to Europe I went on her again for my third cruise. So I have a soft spot for the Golden. yours Shogun

I need to start thinking about packing You're not done yet? I've been done for days (well, two days, at least). In fact, the limo will be here to pick us up exactly one week and 15 minutes from now. kingwinter Posted September 13, 2009 #12 Share Posted September 13, 2009 I have a stupid question..... Why does the Golden back into that port? When I was on her in July we did the same thing, meanwhile, the Amsterdam 1 dock went in normally.
captainron Posted September 13, 2009 #13 Share Posted September 13, 2009 Hi, I believe that the choice of the ship's captain or bridge captain to reverse alongside is based on many things such as wind, tide, etc. While on Golden in spring 2007, we also reversed alongside with the shopping cart handle overhanging the quay below. Perhaps given the regular conditions that prevail at any specific port, there may in fact be a company policy that requires vessels of certain classes to dock in that manner. While on Coral in 2006 Capt Pomato pulled straight ahead to dock, however Capt Heriot pulled in stern first. Ciao for now!!! Ciao for now!!! Blizzard54 Posted September 13, 2009 #14 Share Posted September 13, 2009 It gets down to where they have a choice, they either back in or back out. The port area in Victoria is very busy with a lot of traffice from both boats, ships, ferries and seaplanes. It may be easier to back in and be able to go right out when you leave. Colo Cruiser Posted September 13, 2009 #15 Share Posted September 13, 2009 It also has to do with which side they want for the gangway setup.
