Tours in Halifax

Can anyone recommend a good tour company or cab company that offers tours? We want to go out to Peggy's Cove and then do a tour of city. We don't want to do the HOHO and the early time for the tour thru our ship (CB) only has afternoon times available. We did check with Blue Diamond and they have no openings. There will be 4 ships in port the day we are there. Thanks

We may want to go to Peggys Cove but want to be sure the weather cooperates on the day we arrive. Are there tour guides available at the port when you disembark?? Or must you book ahead? THANKS

Peggy's Cove is beautiful but beware. The locals are constantly 'fishing' people out of the water there - high winds, slippery rocks...... wear running shoes or something with a good tread no matter how warm the day! There is also a post office in the lighthouse to mail postcards...kind of fun if you have grandkids. Take a walk around the village great places to take pictures! Enjoy

I have been trying to reach this company. What day is your ship going to be there. We are there on the 8th.

We used Halifaxtaxitours.com when there 2 weeks ago and Les gave us a wonderful tour. We went to Peggy's Cove, and Les stopped to allow us to take pictures along the route. He then drove us past the Citadel, Public Gardens and other lovely sights in Halifax.

I highly recommend this company.

Hi, I live here and can tell you for sure that the only folks who end up in the water get washed in by rogue waves in hurricane and tropical storm weather . People are constantly warned not to go near during those times but some just don't listen!! You do need sturdy walking shoes . It is just just common sense not to go near the edge which leaves a very large walking area and is quite safe. It is a beautiful place!

We will be there Oct 8 & after checking many tours, one which would have cost $300 for 3 of us we decided to rent a car for the day. Enterprise will pick us up at pier & drop us off and the cost is under $60 for the day. I have read where other people on cruises have done this.

We just got back from our cruise a couple of weeks ago and Garry Jollymore was our guide- he was great, I would highly recommend him.

Agree; the roads are well marked and actually, it would be kind of difficult to get lost if you are paying attention.

I was in Halifax on 17 September and had booked a tour with Greg of Kiwi Kaboodle Nova Scotia Tours and Travel: http://www.novascotiatoursandtravel.com/Cruiseships.htm We had a fantastic time. There were 4 large cruise ships in Halifax the day we were there. As a result, I had arranged to visit towns that wouldn't likely be over-run with tour buses. We visited Mahone Bay, Chester, and Lunenburg, and there wasn't one large tour bus in sight all day. Greg provided lots of background and interesting stories about the towns and area. Our ship was an hour late arriving in Halifax, and Greg was very understanding about this and flexible to rearranging our tour. We ended up keeping the same itinerary and just getting back to town an hour later than planned; I really appreciated his working with us to fit in all the places on our original itinerary even with our late arrival.

Thank you for your comment about Greg and his company. We have a day booked with him for Oct. 28, and he has been really good with ageeing on an itinerary, which is almost what you did. It's always nice to read a good review about someone you have booked with.

We were in Halifax last week and had booked a private tour with Jonathan Duru of Yourcab Tours & Charters. We had a lovely and informative tour of Halifax and Peggy's Cove. I highly reccomend him and would use his services again if in Halifax. :)

I second that about Jonathon with Your Cab. He was our guide while in Halifax and he was wonderful-tailored the tour to the time we had since our ship was late getting the tours off.

He was very informative about Halifax and a very friendly and interesting man to talk with. I would highly recommend him.

We have just returned from the Jewel TranAtlantic cruise, with a stop in Halifax. We wound up there for 2 days because the port inSt. Johns was closed. Boy, did we luck out in Halifax. When we got off the ship we went to the first taxi we came to. We want to HIGHLY RECOMMEND http://www.halifaxtaxitours.com Their phone number is: 1-902-489-8294. Our owner/driver was Al. He and 4 partners are life long Halifax residents who are retired from their original professions. They are knowledgeable, friendly, honest, and take you places that nobody else goes. We hired Al for 3 hours, but had no real time restraints since we were there for the night. We were out for 4 hours and he only charged us for the 3 hours he originally quoted. He took us around the city, pointing out many points of interest and telling interesting stories about the areas. Nobody else would know about the carvings from trees on lawns. Like many others we went to one of the 3 cemeteries with victims of the Titanic, but we beat all the bus tours there. On the way out to Peggy's Cover (which is where we said we wanted to go, but he said we needed to see these other places, and he was absolutely right) we also stopped at a maple syrup factory and had our own private tour/lecture on how maple syrup is made and the different colors/types. We were then treated to a cup of maple flavored coffee - Yum Yum! We did make some purchases there, and the prices were very reasonable.

Others on the ship who got a taxi when they got off the ship got just that - a taxi to take them to Peggy's Cove - no guided tour and no "extras." We all paid the same $135 for 3 hours and the others got back in less time because they did not know where else to ask to go.

 

On the top of the taxi it said "Casino", but the brochure Al gave us has the web site and phone number quoted above.

Sorry I have another question. We will be in Halifax & St. JOhn the end of Oct the beginning of Nov. Coming in on the QM2 should we book our tours in advance or just find them when we get off the ship. Just concerned about the weather so that's why I'm asking.;)

Just returned from Halifax.

I took a tour with Halifax Taxi Tours to Peggy's Cove. Brian was my knowledge driver and guide. Four in the car and we split the cost making our three hour trip very affordable. Brian stopped whenever we wanted to take pictures and also showed us a few highlights of the city on the drive.
