Review of Eurodam August 27th -Sept 6

First Part: We flew to New York prior to the cruise and stayed 4 days, we visited all the sites, saw and old friend, attended plays, it was non-stop but since we had never been we thought we should take in as much as possible. We went to a Yankee game which was great fun

Second Part: The cruise- we boarded the Eurodam on the 27th, everything went smoothly, short wait to board and then on to the Lido.

Food: The food on the Lido throughout the cruise was fine, always plentiful and good selections. There were 6 of us traveling and we never had a problem finding a table. The service was fine.

We had room service twice for breakfast on our balcony, excellent service.

Room Stewarts: There were excellent, always had everything done, ice in the buckets and friendly greetings in the halls.

We had second seating and the service was slow, it was good service but slow, we ate in

the Tamarind one night, it was fun and the food great, the menu was a little confusing, but we finally got it right. We ate in the Lido on the last night.

Entertainment: We were unable to see many of the shows as our late dinner seating lasted so long, the ones we did see were fine.

There was not much to do on this sailing, all the activites were at 9 pm and that was when we were eating, so most of the time we just went to the casino and gambled. I would definitely sat this was a boring cruise in that way. I did play bingo, won twice, once a small amount of money and a free cruise. We were fine, we sat out on our balcony and did nothing alot, we were good at that.

The ports: We did not take any ship's tours, Bar Harbor, Newport RI were fine, we walked around, visited the pubs and bought some stuff, they were beautiful. The day we went to Boston it was very rainy, we took the subway to Fenway Park and Samual Adams Brewery. This was the port we wanted to do so much but as luck would have it the rain make it difficult. It was also the day of Ted Kennedy's funeral so to avoid traffic we stayed on the subway.

The ports in Canada, although nice were quite boring, we just walked around the towns. There was a dedication ceremony in Saqueney for their new terminal building which was quite nice. Quebec was nice, it is a beautiful city and we were exhausted.

Disembarkation was a breeze, we took a taxi to the train station and took Viarail to Montreal where we stayed 2 days, another beautiful city. We then took Amtrak to Albany where we rented a car and went to Cooperstown for 2 days, that is a beautiful part of the country. We flew into Las Vegas and spent the night and returned to Southern Utah yesterday.

All in all it was a great trip, the lack of activities on board makes me think that other than our free cruise we might select a different cruise line for our next trip. We did a 12 day Hollad Baltic last year and there seemed to be a lot more activities for us.

P.S. Thanks to the person who told me that we can leave our car at Harrah's properties in Las Vegas, we left ours at Imperial Palace with not problem and no charge (although we did tip the valet at both ends of leaving it.)

Any questions I will be happy to answer.

We were on this same cruise and did many of the same things you did. Probably saw you every night at dinner and in the casino and just didn't realize! Probably saw you at the train station in Quebec also, but I don't remember seeing a party of 6.

We did about 3 HAL excursions, and my husband did a few more than that.....a few walking tours my Mom couldn't do. They were all excellent. However, I think we found more to do on board than you, or it might just be a matter of taste. We always felt busy.

I was also disappointed so many activities were scheduled for 9:00 p.m. We missed all of those for the same reason and those have always been my favorites.

I was very disappointed when we got to Montreal because not much was open. I'm not sure it was because it was a Sunday evening or that the next day was a holiday. We had to leave very early the next morning so couldn't do much anyway and we were exhausted by this time. Where did you stay in Montreal and did you do anything special there?

Thanks for your review!

Please don't think we didn't do other things on board, we did, food quiz, card making etc. It was just things like Martini making etc were scheduled at 9:00pm, we did keep busy.

Only my husband and I went to Montreal, the other 2 couples did other things, one went home and the other stayed in Quebec. We stayed at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, it was terrific, good location, wonderful service, the first night we walked around the hotel area, had dinner at Reubens, very good. The next day, Monday, we walked to Old Town, took a harbor cruise, later there was a parade near the hotel, we had dinner in a pub and were exhausted from the day. On Tueday we took the Amtrak to Albany.

We probably did see each other but didn't know..

Thanks for the review. My hope is to sail the Eurodam sometime in the coming year. Instead of being able to take advantage of the incredibly low fares this summer, I've been helping my cousin out at her B&B in Alaska (I know, tough duty LOL). Traveling alone means I try to snag a great fare so I hope there will be some in the winter and spring. I find that sitting around doing very little is the best part of cruising :D.
