First, it is the San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris CASINO....

second.....what is your budget???

Third, have you checked the ports of call board??? lots of info....

Fourth....February is pretty popular, so you may want to check out priceline or hotwire for a resort...

look at betterbidding and biddingfortravel websites...

We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express which I believe is near the Condado area. We didn't want anything fancy pre-cruise - just a place to lay our heads. We are paying $60 for the night, but we are also using points to cover some of the cost so your actual cost may be higher.

I have read good reviews of the Marriott Stellaris and the Intercontinental. We decided that since we are going to be on wonderful beaches during the cruise we didn't care about a beach when we arrive. We are taking a red eye out of Portland OR at 10pm arriving in San Juan at 1pm. I figure we are going to be dog tired so we booked Embassy Suites at about $115 I think. It is a block or so from the beach if that is a place we want to visit. I figured that we would just want to veg by the pool. It has the advantage of the manager's reception and hot breakfast. Plus the rooms are more comfortable since they are suites. No sitting on the bed to watch tv.

We have stayed at Holiday Inn Express twice (each time a day before and a day after cruise). It is in a great area with walking distance to restaurants/nightlife; a Walgreens and a small grocery/liquor store. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Pool area is small but pretty. Breakfast is included with room. (but world's smallest coffee cups)

They have been accomodating about storing luggage if you get there before check in time.

If you do use Priceline, be sure you are willing to take whatever they give you. I got El San Juan and it has the worst reviews of any hotel I have ever read about. :(

Don't sweat the bad reviews of the ESJ, it isn't a bad hotel. The pool area is great and it is on arguably the best beach in San Juan, (Isla Verde) and the lobby area is spectacular. The rooms aren't the greatest, but there are loads of places to eat and shop right nearby. Most TripAdvisor reviews are done by people who paid rack rate and are therefore hyper-critical. The ESJ will not disappoint if you get it on Priceline.

The intercontenental is NOT in the condado area unless there is a second one I'm not aware of. We stayed at the Hilton Conrad the old Wyndham condado.. it's undergone a $60 mil refurb and it looks like a 1960 psychadellic commercial. Red, red... chrome.. red and orange, yuck.

We've never stayed at the Caribe but I read fairly good reviews.

The Intercontenental is 5 minutes from the airport and breathtaking. Very pricey for drinks and the occasional plane overhead, but the condado area is where we won't return after this trip, we'll stay at the Carolina beach area. Just my 2 cents. I don't know about the cheaper hotels, but the Conrad is a waste of $$ IMHO.

Opps, my bad:eek: Both Embassy Suites and Incontinental are in the Isla Verde area. Lo siento!

Hi:

There is a brand new Double Tree by Hilton hotel in the Condado area. The hotel is across the street from a grocery store and walking distance from Ashford Avenue (main Condado Ave.) We had dinner a couple of weeks ago on an Asian Restaurant close to the hotel and I told my husband that I thought that it will be a good hotel for a couple of nights before a cruise.

We stayed at the Intercontinental 8/29/09 pre-cruise, which we booked on Priceline for $100 and we were so pleased! We were given an ocean front room on the 12th floor, enjoyed the beach and the pool which is open 24 hours. We ate at Mi Casita, almost accross the street from the hotel for great local food. Sunday morning we had an expanded continental breakfast for $17 ea, outside, overlooking the pool. We would happily stay there again!!

We stayed 2 nights pre-cruise at the Marriott Stellaris Resort & Casino & 1 night pre-cruise at the Intercontinental (because i purchased at 2 different times thru priceline when we decided to go a day earlier) both were beautiful resorts. I got the Marriott thru priceline at around $139/night and the Intercontinental for $125. However, unless you are planning to spend all your time at the resort, using the beach, the pool, the casino, etc... you are paying for alot of things you won't be using. We went to El Yunque, the Vieques Bio Bay, El Morro, San Christobal, etc... and barely spent anytime at the hotels. We didn't have to pay the resort fee at either hotel but did have to pay for parking.

How did you avoid the resort fee? Please send me your secret;)
