tocanada Posted September 22, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2009 RCL stock price has gone up from $5.40 in March to over $24 today. A $5,400 investment would now be worth over $24,000. That pays for a few cruises! andrew
M&M Hayden Posted September 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Well, we bought 100 shares when it was $32 a share.....then bought 100 more when it was $8, so about now we're even. And to top it off now we can't even use it for the perk of OBC, so it better keep climbing.
steponboard Posted September 22, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Nah, I don't live with "what if's" and am happy with what I have.
wolfcathorse Posted September 22, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Didn't have money when it was $5.40 but I did when it was $8. Bought 110 at $8, so I'm happy. I'll use the OBC if I ever book an interior or oceanview cabin.
Spa girl nana Posted September 22, 2009 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Oh, yes, I wish I had bought. That's twice it's dropped very low and I didn't buy. 1'st time hubby said "NO", then this last spring, didn't because RCL had changed the reward program. Do you think 3 times will be a "charm"? tiyana4 Posted September 22, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 22, 2009 I didn't buy at $5.40, but have bought and sold shares several times over since then. It has made a remarkable turnaround in the last 6 months.

Rare printingchick Posted September 22, 2009 #9 Share Posted September 22, 2009 RCL stock price has gone up from $5.40 in March to over $24 today. A $5,400 investment would now be worth over $24,000. That pays for a few cruises! andrew I wish I had bought MORE when it was low. My broker discouraged me from buying it at all, so I bought only the 100 shares required for the share holder benefits when the stock was at $5.80/share. It promptly jumped up to over $17 share as I watched, first thrilled, then kicking myself for not having bought more. In order to EVER take any profit, I'd have to surrender my share holder benefit! When the stock dropped down in the $10s again, I bought a second 100 shares at $10.45/share. I wish I'd bought more, even at THAT price!!
The Grumpus Posted September 22, 2009 #10 Share Posted September 22, 2009 I bought at $6.50 and was able to combine 3 shareholder OBC's with the other discounts before the end of the year. So I look at it as I actually got the stock for $3.50/100 shares after the OBC's. I do wish I would have bought a 1000 though.
chotton Posted September 22, 2009 #11 Share Posted September 22, 2009 I bought at a little over $9.00, almost bought more when it was at $6.00 but was a little skeptical due to the down turn in travel.

MissMelis Posted September 22, 2009 #16 Share Posted September 22, 2009 My husband and I got lucky and bought at exactly $5.40. We also only bought 100 shares to get the OBC - we're both young and this was our first attempt at the stock market. Needless to say, we're thrilled with the results, but sad that to see that we'd lose our OBC to reap profits. If it ever dips again, we're snapping up additional shares. 14Terry Posted September 22, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 22, 2009 My broker thought I was crazy, purchasing RCL stock at $10 a share. Have been able to use the shareholder credit on 2 cruises so far.Whos smiling now! :D

Rare SliderNc Posted September 22, 2009 #19 Share Posted September 22, 2009 I'm sitting on about 1200 shares in my IRA right now that I bought at different levels between $6 and $10. I'm thinking of selling a bunch off and investing in some other areas and keeping enough to get the OBC.

critterchick Posted September 22, 2009 #21 Share Posted September 22, 2009 I use my stock OBC every time I sail Celebirty no mater what cabin we are in!! Good point. We often forget that RCI was the only one of the three lines in the RCCL family who offered really good combinable benefits. X and Azamara do not offer a balcony discount, and the OBC for using a cruise purchased onboard or a Next Cruise (forget what they call them) is based on the price, not the length of the cruise. You have to spend something like $3000 to get $100 OBC. So the shareholder credit still comes in handy on those lines no matter what your status or the accomodation you book. I'm with you on that one critterchick! Wish I'd bought more too.....same scenario, broker advised against it. :( Wrong chick.:) I bought in the $40s in about 2005. I've gotten back almost all of my original investment in OBC, so I really can't call it a failed investment. See, e.g., Lucent. Heck yeah I wish I'd bought at $5.40....instead of the $40 something "I" paid!! There, there, you have plenty of company, including me! heatherb1958 Posted September 22, 2009 #22 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Hi Andrew, Yes John is kicking himself he didn't buy more at the cheap price we paid. We bought 200 shares and have had more back in OBC than we paid out for the shares with another $750 to come:D.
