ksmcali Posted September 22, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Myself, DH, and DD (2yo) are sailing on the Ecstasy in November. Currently we're in one of the new Cat 12 SS with the extended balcony. I wondering if anyone has ever gotten an upsell call to move to the ever so famous Owner's Suite on any of the Fantasy Class Ships that still have them. When I originally booked back in February, I requested availability of the Owner's Suite, and my PVP told me he wasn't sure if it would still be there, because it may get converted into the new Circle C. Well, since that time I've heard that the Owner's Suite will "live on" on the Ecstasy. While I'm thrilled with my current cabin, I must admit sailing in the Owner's Suite sounds nice. So, has any ever received an upsell call to upgrade to the Owner's Suite? and if so, did you inquire about it previously? I'm thinking of calling my PVP and letting him know that if we approach the week before our cruise and the Owner's Suite is empty, we'd be interested in upgrading for the right price. Any feedback would be appreciated!
dotshub Posted September 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2009 Funny you should ask..good timing. I got a call just yesterday offering the upsell to the owners suite. I decided not to do it because even tho it was a fantastic savings off their usual price it was still more than I was willing to pay this time. Maybe some day:rolleyes:
pe4all Posted September 22, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2009 As I had stated on some previous threads, we had received an upsell call to go from our category 12 cabin (U97) to the Owner's Suite. (Fantasy) The price they offered was not to sweet. They wanted $1800 on top on what we had already paid. (4 of us sailing in Cat. 12) The first call came 2 weeks before we sailed. I gave them a counter offer of $1,000. Nope. They called again 1 week before we sailed. I figured they would sweeten the deal - but it was the same upsell for the same $1800. Again, we made a counter-offer. No bite. We were quite happy with our cabin - we had specifically booked that one, anyway. Would have loved to try the OS, but not for that price for a 5 day cruise. Any feedback would be appreciated! I got the upsell call for an Owners Suite on the Newly Refurbished Sensation last month. I was told the price of the up-grade was fixed no matter if you only paid for an inside or in your case, Paying for that nice Cat 12 of which I have had 2 and love ! That price was an EXTRA $300.00 PER DAY ABOVE what you will have paid for the 12.. You can go to youtube and type in Sensation Owners Suite and see a 5 minute new video of what you get for your $$.. Good Luck..:)

Whimsy Posted September 22, 2009 #6 Share Posted September 22, 2009 We were offered the owner's suite about a month ago for our cruise coming up on Monday. While it's a very nice suite it's a lot of money for a 5 night cruise. We turned it down.
epi Posted September 22, 2009 #7 Share Posted September 22, 2009 My daughter and hubby took the upgrade on the Fantasy to the owners suite last month ..... it was not worth the money .... the Balcony stinks.... all you can see is the top of the lifeboats..... the service was horrible.... our room steward had to call her room steward to get ice.... ( she said she forgot ) .... after being ask twice.... that was the first day.... and it only got worse from there.... I could tell several of those stories... but I won't .... Our service however, ..... was great.... I think the room stewards know that if it is an upgrade,, and not some super wealthy special person that would be able to book it from the beginning... and they just didn't care..... The extra space is nice but I don't think it is that much better than the Penthouse .....

I have never seen these on the couple of Fantasy class ships I have been on (that I know of) On the Fantasy it is cabins S1 and S2. They are not listed on the deckplans. But if you look at the white area by the atrium, they are there. The windows overlook the pool on the Lido deck. The Paradise and Elation do not have them. Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted September 23, 2009 #15 Share Posted September 23, 2009 We have sailed in one 12 times now. For our last sailing (9/3/09 Sensation) we had decided to save a grand and try out one of the extended balcony cat 12's (Cat SS). Just a few days prior to sailing we received "the call". They wanted $750 more than the Cat SS. I called Cheryl to ask her (like I even DOUBTED FOR A MINUTE what her reply would be) so we took the bait. It was a great cruise, and without a doubt the BEST cabins in the fleet. If they had just not screwed up and come though with our Platinum perks this time, it would have been a PERFECT sailing (I won enough in the casino to easily pay for the sailing... :D). Now if they had just given us that darned picture frame, LOL. Complete with Doorbell and privacy light (switch inside cabin). Now, if they just had a PEEP HOLE like EVERY OTHER CABIN ON THE SHIP, all would be well. I have pointed that out to them, even citing the security factor - BUT IT HAS FALLEN ON DEAF EARS! Tom

From the pictures I've seen I'd love to cruise this cabin, but I must admit, not bad enough to pay an additional $1800 over what I paid for my Cat 12 SS on a 5-day sailing. I've been looking into an Owner's Suite on RCCL (685 sq.ft) on a 7-day, for cheaper than that. The Carnival Owners suite may be 1100 sq ft, but its all "gravy" once you move past 500 sq ft, IMHO =)! Not to mention you get alot more suite perks at RCCL. Tom-n-Cheryl, do I understand you to say you payed an additional $750 total for 2 people above your Cat 12 SS price. Now, that's definately more appealing, and reasonable. Although, we really love our balcony, which is why we went with the new SS. It's ashame to have to sacrafice outside space for inside space. Thanks again to everyone. I've got my finger's crossed and hoping for the best.
Drew's Wife Posted September 23, 2009 #17 Share Posted September 23, 2009 We got a call a couple of weeks ago wanting us to upgrade from a Cat 11 to a Cat 12. A really good deal...only a couple of hundred dollars, but we like where our cabin is located. I know the cat 12 would be nice except there is somone on every side of those cabins.. Told her I would be intereted in the PH suite at the right price. Yesterday she called and offered us the PH for $750.00. I was at work but Drew was at home and took the call. He did not realize it was an upsell at first. Luckily I called him while he was talking to the rep...and then he found out they wanted 750 extra. I told he to tell her no...offered them half that much and they said they couldn't do it. As much as we would love the experience of the Owners Suite. We love the cabin that we have booked. WE been in the same cabin so many times, that it is like our home away from home!

Dave YEP - and they are, in my opinion (w/view over the top of a lifeboat factored in) the best balcony available on a Fantasy class ship! You can't see STRAIGHT down to the waterline, but you can easily see over the top of the lifeboat. CLICK HERE for link to video. pe4all Posted September 23, 2009 #20 Share Posted September 23, 2009 Interestingly enough, besides the upsell price being too high for us, the one thing I was worried about was that the Carnival rep said the Owner's Suite was right above Camp Carnival. I was worried about a possible noise factor - any one ever have problems with that?

I was worried about a possible noise factor - any one ever have problems with that? ZERO problems from below. The only noise issues had to do with periodic lounge chair movement and joggers above - as well as a loud Lido area occasionally. Given everything else it has to offer, noise is still a non-issue. ksmcali Posted September 23, 2009 Author #22 Share Posted September 23, 2009 Just got off the phone with my PVP. I was making final payment and inquiring into the availability of the Owner's Suites and he told me as of August, they are no longer booking them out right. Not even for direct call in requests. He said they are reserved for VIP Carnival Corp. guests and Executive level families. If the suites are unoccuppied as the cruise draws near, then they're tossed over to the Upsell Department and used for upsell calls. Oh well. In five cruises with Carnival, I've only ever been upgraded once. And it was a true upgrade, not an upsell. 8 years ago, we booked the highest catogery balcony cabin on the Inspiration, and was upgrade to a Cat 12 Penthouse Suite. It was my first time to sail in a suite, and just happened to be our Honeymoon! Definately made for a great and memorable honeymoon! I'm sure for more frequent travelers, like Tom-n-Cherly they would booked direct, but no lucky here. Actually I find it a little disappointing. I am loyal to cruising, but not any one particular brand. I do prefer to cruise in a suite, but that's doesn't mean I'm loosey goosey with my money. I like to get a great deal, and make my money go further. Carnivals suites are limited in terms of size and perks. I've found 8 out of 10 times, I can find as good as or better of a deal on suites with NCL, RCCL, and sometimes even HAL, than with Carnival, and you get perks! I love Carnival and have found that they match all the other lines I've traveled with in terms of food, service, and quality. And Because they sail year around from 3 ports all within driving distance, this makes them convenient. But I wish they could do more to make a suite more than just the extra room. Yes - they don't have near the types/styles of suites that many other lines do, and - like you said - when you book the suite pretty much all you get is the extra room (and priority embarkation). No special lounges or other amenities. Tom

Have heard mixed answers when trying to inquire about these suites in the past. As a frequent user, would like your thoughts.... I know that this summer they did totally revamp the pricing structure for the OS. When booking direct (perhaps assuming you have the right contacts) instead of now being a set price above the Cat 12 rate as it used to be, now it's ~ $400 per person per day, or $500 pp/pd if a holiday sailing. A couple weeks prior to our 9/3/09 Sensation sailing I did make an inquiry about rates and availability (I was toying with the thought) and was given the information - I declined. When I got the upsell call,it was a couple of hundred (total) less than what I had been quoted. Tom
