jealdaka Posted November 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Do you know for sure where Oasis will dock in St Thomas for the weeks of January 23rd and 30th? I keep hearing it has changed but don't know for sure and neither did the lady I just spoke to at Royal Caribbean.

Alysia Posted November 7, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 7, 2009 We will dock at Crown Bay. Is that by the Heavensite mall???
DEIx15x8 Posted November 7, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Is that by the Heavensite mall??? No, the Havensite mall is at the Havensite dock. The January 23rd and 30th cruises are still up in the air. They have only announced that the December sailings will use Crown Bay instead of Havensite. Based on current progress the early January cruises will probably be using Crown Bay as well but haven't been announced yet. Early to mid January on could still go either way depending on if they start dredging.
Loyal2RCCL Posted November 7, 2009 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2009 I had read an article somewhere and they were interviewing the Minister of Tourism form STT. He didn't sound too hopeful about the dredging project in the harbor and mentioned that the Oasis would have to use the Crown Bay dock instead of Havensight. He also said that Crown Bay was not going to be a pleasant experience for the cruise passengers due to it's location and limited/no facilities. Cruise Gopher Posted November 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Ugh I hate Crown Bay!! So disappointed to learn we are docking there. It is so far away from everything.
Cruising89143 Posted November 7, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Ugh I hate Crown Bay!! So disappointed to learn we are docking there. It is so far away from everything. Didn't make me happy either. I'm surprised that RCI didn't have this handled with the local officials long ago. They should have been given a deadline to get the job done or RCI should have taken the ship to San Juan for the day. At least there we could have docked right in the middle of Old San Juan. Alysia Posted November 7, 2009 #8 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Ugh I hate Crown Bay!! So disappointed to learn we are docking there. It is so far away from everything. I am also very disappointed to find this out a few weeks prior to my cruise. Why did they not notified us before? I do not like surprises. I just sent an email to my favorite jewlery store (Ballerina) in ST Thomas to find out exactly how far it is to his store. I will post the reply when I get it. Cruising89143 Posted November 7, 2009 #9 Share Posted November 7, 2009 From what I have read on the boards, it about the same distance to downtown and not as congested traffic wise compare to Havensight.
mafig Posted November 7, 2009 #10 Share Posted November 7, 2009 I've been there and it's not bad at all. About the same distance to town.
Cruise Gopher Posted November 7, 2009 #11 Share Posted November 7, 2009 It's not the distance factor as much as the fact that there is really nothing at the Crown Bay pier. A few misc shops but that's it. I think we'll get off early go shop for a bit downtown and then back on board to enjoy the ship for the day. PennyAgain Posted November 7, 2009 #12 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Oasis will cause its own traffic jam in port! Just like the old days when you had to take a taxi to get downtown. Downtown is going to be wall to wall people.
RCCLCARIB Posted November 7, 2009 #13 Share Posted November 7, 2009 I heard that Oasis can't fit in the San Juan Harbor, and that is why San Juan is not a viable alternative. Personally, I would rather add Labadee.
Cruise Gopher Posted November 7, 2009 #14 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Ewwww Labadee, there is nothing there, it's just a beach day.

Alysia Posted November 8, 2009 #17 Share Posted November 8, 2009 Love Ballerina. Glad to know it is the same difference. Have been dealing with James since 1996. We also been dealing with James for many years. He has a great selection of unique jewlery which you don't see in other stores. I get an added treat since we are doing B2B, on the Oasis of the Seas I get to visit St Thomas twice. Which could be very scary for my credit card!!! I'd be afraid to do a B2B with eastern itineraries as I would spend far too much. Saving my stash for our Jan. FOS cruise.
Islandbear Posted November 9, 2009 #19 Share Posted November 9, 2009 How long before the other dock is dredged?
alphakitty Posted November 9, 2009 #20 Share Posted November 9, 2009 I've been trying to decide what to do in St. Thomas....staying on the ship is looking like a good idea. :) Found this article from a few weeks ago that discusses the issues. http://stthomassource.com/content/news/local-news/2009/10/15/governor-says-lindbergh-bay-wont-get-dredging-spoils
Islandbear Posted November 10, 2009 #21 Share Posted November 10, 2009 Sounds like staying aboard will be the best option till they move over to Havensight. With the lack of security screening equipment at Crown Bay they might never get you back on board.
