Recent problems uploading to the CC Photo Gallery

Recommended Posts

On a regular basis over the last two years or so,

I've uploaded many photos to the CC Photo Gallery.

Suddenly today now (Tues. November 24th.)

I start getting annoying error messages upon attempted uploads which state

Unable to read the format of file: C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/photopost/data510/medium/fileName-123.jpg

so what's going on?

..........

Suspecting it was something on my side,

I uninstalled IncrediMail which I put in, just yesterday

and cleaned my Win. Vista Business Registry as best I know how

restarted the machine, to get the same annoying message.

Turning to Google I discover that I'm not alone

and this seems to be

some sort of photo upload problem relating to the server/s the photos are being submitted to??

Could that be it? -nothing at my end at all?

Has cruisecric gone and changed something in the last 24 hrs. or so??

Anyone know what's up?

- have I got a malware bug in my computer?

Anyone else having this problem uploading their pics to the CC Photo Gallery?

I've uploaded several (the same very)pics to my Facebook photo albums

with no problems from them (and that says a lot).

Come back...?

So it looks like I'm the only person in here

who submits pics with any regularity

to CC's own Photo Gallery?

I'm still no closer to a solution.

I even tried System Restore-ing back to Sunday before I installed IncrediMail

but that did no good.

Can't get a reply to my email enquiry.

More and more I'm convinced it's something that Cruisecritic has done at their server end.

I say that because I've also, noticed that the last three photo submissions

on the Photo Gallery's home page at

http://pictures.cruisecritic.com/index.php

are all displaying as [NO THUMBNAIL]

which strikes me as being odd.

It's not just me, is it..

Anyone?

Sorry aplmac, never tried loading the photos to the Galley, can't help

All ways used the board to display my photos.

Will be in Barbados Friday 11th December, going on the Oceana (P&O) leaving at 9.00pm. So will be able to get some night photos, down your way!!

Well...Monday to Monday is a week now

and no-one's done anything about the problems uploading to the cruisecritic Photo Gallery!

I still see everyone's recent thumbnail submissions showing as No Thumbnail..

I see Laura S managed to post a test (which initially displays as a No Thumbnail)

- at least she got that far!

I continue to get error message

Unable to read the format of file: C:/Inetpub/wwwroot/photopost/data526/medium/MeinSchiff-522.jpg

..and have just about given up!

Such a path under my C: directory does not exist

along the way to where my Mein Schiff folder and the specific picture-file lie within!!

I cruise tomorrow for 4 days -coming back Friday-

it'll be interesting to see if anything gets rectified in that time.

It still seems to be some technical issue on the CC side, but can't be sure of that.

I'm hoping Laura realizes that something's gone awry?

Thanks for trying, Laura.

aplmac......yesterday, for the first time ever I attempted to upload a couple of photo's from my recent cruise on the Carnival Glory. I visited Nassau, St Thomas and St Maarten(Dutch side). For some reason only shot 1 photo in St Thomas but have maybe 40-50 froim St Maarten. When I attempted to upload 1 at a time a message popped up telling me the "file was too large". Just wondering, how on earth could I have restricted the size of the individual photo file?

Rob----Now that I have finally decided to share some of my photo's, CC site seems to prevent me from uploading them.

Just back (10 mins. ago!) from a 4-day/3-night cruise to SXM and St.Kitts

expecting to find smooth upload process...everything sorted.

Found a new error message instead:

Unable to move file [/tmp/phpBVVZqr] [/var/www/html/pictures.cruisecritic.com/uploads/272460/QM2-335.jpg]

How cool is that..? :D

I guess I'll be uploading my new pics to other sites instead.

250k. size limit on files uploaded.

It certainly is beginning to look like Submissions are frozen, over on the CC Photo Gallery

There haven't been any new ones for some time, now.

The same ole 'Recent Photos' -including a test submission by Laura-

have been showing now for some days!

I just got back from a cruise and have at least a dozen processed files ready to go

but until the mess gets unstuck, I'll be uploading them to other cruise pic sites, I guess.

Aplmac, If you do upload your new photo's to other pic sites, would u let us know which sites you uploaded them to? Maybe I might be able to upload my photo's. Its always nice to see what other photo's taken by other folks.

Rob

Just another question for you....isn't there a way to reduce the size of the file for photo's?

I've been posting various cruise pics to a UK cruise forum at

http://www.cruises.co.uk/

where --in their bar across the top-- you'll see Gallery.

Millennium at Barbados!

-and another less-popular site at

http://www.ucruiser.com/

where they too have a Gallery.

This is Caribbean Princess we were just on!

I use Photoshop to reduce picture(and file) size before submission

but many other image manipulation softwares can do the same

even Windows' built-in PAINT, I believe -although I couldn't tell you how

coz I've been using P-shop for so long now...

aplmac.....thanks for your reply. I have written down the web-sites you mentioned so I can access them and upload my pics. I have photoship elements 7 so I suppose it might help if I were to read the instruction manual on how to reduce the size of my photo files.

Rob- thanks for your help.

Glad it's not just me! ===> It's not just you!

250K file size limit so I reduced appropriately

- but get a server error from the receiving site:confused:

It's got worse!

I just tried to upload a minute ago

and I didn't even get an error message

all I got was a plain grey screen with nothing written on it.

I refreshed the page several times, but that was it - a plain grey-background screen!

You should try it sometime. Weird.

Maybe it's being fixed, and that's why the grey screen..?

Keep hope alive!

OK ppl...things are looking up. ;)

Photos are getting thru to the Photo Gallery server

even if many images are badly distorted --looking like Solarized effect.

Some of the BIG blow-ups are displaying properly, but many are 'Solarized'

Obviously they're working on the problem, and it might help for anyone other than me

to please try to submit a few of your photos

so we can all see what's working and what's not?

Right now, I'm throwing a few pics at the server now and then

in the hope that it's helping them to solve whatever problem it is.

Many of them I'll obviously delete in a day or two

(as long as they continue to display in Solarized fashion)

-I'll simply re-submit them again, after things smooth out, back to normal.

Guys,

Not had chance to upload any photo's recently, have been working away, noticed this thread so have rushed some through as a test, (take a look) seems like now they will post but as aplmac says the results are very poor, ghost like & solarised, negative even. I have not had problems uploading to other areas so I guess the problem lies with CC. You can feel assured there is probably nothing wrong with your own process.

Lets hope they get it sorted soon, I'm sure they are fully aware of the situation.

The photo's I have just uploaded are solarised in the gallery homepage, I opened one up & it was still solarised & even worse, I then clicked on the image to make it full size ------- guys the Photo was perfect, well a good image anyway, give it a try.

No need for angry faces, eh? Anyway, we were upgrading the photo gallery (the announcement is now gone, but was there), and we did exchange emails on this Dave. All is now fixed.
