Looks like Princess will have to wait LONGER for a new ship...

It must be a brand decision regarding the power plants aboard the ships- CCL has stayed true to traditional propellers- even on the new Dream class while other brands within Carnival Corporation use azipods exclusively (Cunard)... so who knows?

Well, some of Carnival's older ships have azipods (Elation, Paradise, Spirit, Pride, Legend, Miracle) as does all of the ships built on HAL's Vista-hull including a couple for Costa and, of course, Cunard.

I know this is the Princess board, but since we are on the topic of Paint ship designs, I thought I would throw in a new one from me for all to see... it's not complete, but I thought I would share it anyway.

Presenting the Carnival Pinnacle...

Carnival1.jpg?t=1260161045

Objects of Note:

- The funnel color scheme continues below the funnel structure itself into the glass windows of the two decks below (illuminated at night so the scheme is recognizable).

- WaterWorks has been expanded to nearly a full waterpark- on this vessel it is located at the stern and is enclosed on the sides by windows to guard against sudden wind gusts.

- The Central Elevator bank includes three panoramic sea-view elevators on either side of the vessel hidden behind yet another side of windows with the Carnival color scheme.

- The Seaside Theatre screen is visible upon the elevator bank structure.

- I have made the assumption the Cove Balconies on Dream will be a hit and included them below the lifeboats here.

- I continued the wrap-around promenade aboard this vessel- similar to the one aboard Dream.

-As for the funnel and side schemes- I tried as hard as I could to make the 'curve' of the white line look right... but it isn't possible in Paint.

Like I said, I know this isn't the right forum, but since we have been covering designs here, I thought I would throw it up anyway.

To jump back in this thread a bit, here's that first design shown "in the water"...

NewClass5_AtSea.jpg

Also, here's that modified Coral Class design.

The current Coral class, to me, seem like an odd Sun class/Grand class hybrid. Exterior wise, I'm not too much of a fan. I did quite a bit of redesign on the plans, and here's what I came up with...

ModifiedCoral.jpg

ModifiedCoral_AtSea.jpg

ModifiedCoral_Rooms.jpg

To begin, I retained the new lifeboat configuration. I'm quite a big fan of the fully-utilized exterior promenade which it frees up.

Added another deck of balconies, which increases her GRT a bit.

Dining

Anytime DR (panoramic)

Traditional DR

Bayou Cafe & Steakhouse-retained from the current Coral class

Sabatinis

Horizon Court-using action stations. Shares an exterior aft deck with Cafe Caribe

Cafe Caribe

Entertainment

Explorers Lounge (panoramic)-Expanded and with views from Starbord, Aft, and Port.

Grand Casino-enlarged area with an increased "lounge" feel

Wheelhouse Bar

New Concept Intimate Lounge-similar to Wheelhouse Bar. Inspired by Michael's Club and the Martini Bar on Celebrity.

Showlounge-similar to what is currently on the Coral class

Princess Theater

Adagio & Exterior aft bar-carried over from the Grand class. Enlarged and now includes an aft bar.

Upper Piazza Bar- on the third level of the Piazza. Extends onto the exterior promenade deck.

Leisure

The Sanctuary-Enlarged and expanded around the second level of the enclosed Lotus pool

Lotus Spa

Lotus Pool

Main Pool

Sports Courts & Splash pool-integrated with the kids&teen centers

Aft Pool & MUTS-I'm thinking something along the lines of an Infinity pool, but that may be a bit too much.

Hopefully I didn't forget much. Just tell me if I did.

Very nice designs indeed.

This thread is absolutely fascinating. I am so impressed with the skill, creativity and all the ideas. Thanks to all who contribute. I think the new ship designs are amazing and really feed the imagination.

MSC and Costa are building Panamax ship's with 300 to 500 more passengers than the Coral. Maybe the Royal leaving the fleet will get us another Panamax ship.

I have a feeling that all those R-class ships are leaving the Princess fleet. Maybe Princess will up the ante with a new ship. I still find it funny that Carnival Corp HAS stated that they wish to expand the Princess fleet yet are found doing the exact opposite.

Have to make room somehow.

It would be nice if they had a nice running/walking track or at least make the promenade deck all one level rather than having to climb up and down the stairs when you get to the forward of the ship. That was my experience on the CB and probably will be the same on the Emerald come next year. They could also widen the deck so people who want to walk at their leisure or stand look out don't have to move out of the way of people running or vice versa. I really would prefer just a track dedicated for people who want to exercise in that manner, especially up top so you can look over the ocean as you walk or run.

We ran into this on the Ruby.

I agree wholeheartedly!

I imagine the R-class will be moving on to other companies. I really can't see Princess keeping anything smaller then the Sun class. They are, IMO, destined to be one of the "bigger is better" lines. Maybe not to the extent of RCI, but I doubt Princess will be getting anything smaller then the Coral class.

P&O, however, seems to be going in both directions. I wonder if they will retain Adonia for long, however, since P&O has already had ships moved in and out of the fleet in a relatively short span of time. Though, I do believe they will retain her, as she is a replacement for Artemis.

Will be interesting to see what becomes of the Ocean Princess and Pacific Princess. I imagine that the Ocean Princess will stick with Princess for a while.

These R-class ships have proven to be very versatile!

Well, as I mentioned above, MSC's last two new-builds were post-panamax ships (Fantasia and Splendida) at 133,500 GRT and 3,300 passengers. Their older ships are panamax size...

The Ocean Princess and Pacific Princess will remain with Princess for the foreseeable future (according to my friend at Princess).

Riiiigggghhht...

But MSC has three (3) PANAMAX size ships under construction: Magnifica, Favolosa and Meraviglia.

So, like I stated before, MSC is bucking the trend and introducing new, panamax size ships, contrary to what you are saying...

Well, MSC's newest ships (Fantasia and Splendida) are in the 133,500 ton range... ;)

http://www.cybercruises.com/orderbook.htm

Scroll down to MSC and you will see three ships (all Panamax size) on order for MSC. Musica class (like the Poesia and Orchestra).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSC_Cruises#Premium_Fleet

I don't like using wikipedia, but for cruise facts it is mostly accurate. 93,000 GRT ships of the Musica class.

It'd be nice if MSC expanded operations here...

It would be nice, but I think they need to take a break with growing the fleet and turn their concentration inwards. They do a lot of talk, but the reviews still appear to be overwhelmingly negative.

As of now, just being large (tied with NCL for 3rd largest) won't be enough to carry them in the mainstream market. However, I have not sailed them, so cannot offer a definitive opinion. I'd like to get on board one of their ships to try out the product. They're very attractive ships IMO.

For MSC to truly succeed in the American dominated Caribbean market they need to take a serious look inwards and reshape a few of their policies to fit what is common amongst the mainstream cruise lines... it wouldn't be 'conforming to American tastes' as much as conforming to what is expected in the marketplace.

Until then, they will continue to suffer bad press and reviews- bad policies and service that leaves something to be desired aboard a beautiful ship still equals a bad experience overall.

Allrighty... I stand corrected. I got my info from http://www.nauticalcities.com and didn't scroll down the MSC page far enough to see that they are building Panamax ships. But then again, the page from cybercruises does seem to imply (regardless of Wikipedia) that the two new-builds that haven't begun construction will hold 3,013 passengers... so those seem to be a bit bigger... I guess we'll just have to wait until the orders are placed. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if Favolosa and Meravgadgegla or whatever (Seriously, those names are like literary vomit) are a little bigger than the current Musica class.

I would completely understand a desire to have a pair of ships that cross the size gap between Musica/Orchestra/Poesia and Fantasia/Splendida.
