New Pet Peeve - robes in public areas.

Putting on my flame retardant dress now.

I do not want to see ever see people in their PJs, slippers and robes in the Neptune Lounge ever again. We just got off the Zuiderdam and had a great cruise but I saw way too many people in the NL in what I think is a state of undress. I know people like to pop in for coffee, juice and a small breakfast. The last straw was a man sitting across from me eating breakfast with boxers and a loosely tied robe. His legs were spread apart and the robe was gaping open, while his wife was fully dressed. It only takes 2 minutes to pull on some shorts and a t-shirt. It also wasn't only men - I saw several women where gravity was no longer their friend.

For the record I've never seen people dressed this way in the public areas of a hotel.

Taking flame retardant dress off now.

I'm sorry as well.

But you would have to be a moron to think that is the proper way to dress for the Neptune or anywhere else on the ship.

I've yet to see that in the Neptune..but it is only a matter of time.:(

I have seen pax wearing robes in the Lido.

Definitely seen pax in the NL wearing robe/slippers and how incredibly rude is that:eek:. I don't care that you just "popped in" for a sec - don't do it wearing a bathrobe/slippers.

Here's what is so funny - there's always HUGE discussions on this forum about "proper dress" - and I have to wonder if those pax that are worried about whether or not everyone is adhering to the dress code are some of the same pax that viit the NL in the robe/slippers?????

Flame away but BTW - I couldn't care less.

You would never, ever see us dressed that way in the Neptune either!!

And -- oh -- yes -- on both of our Zuiderdam cruises there were quite a few people wearing only robes and sometimes no slippers while they ate in the neptune!!

Disgusting!!

We have seen a a few people stop in and get coffee or juice or rolls on other ships and take them back to their cabins.

But this was truely the worst we have seen.

I remember this being brought up a few years ago and the thread got really heated. How hard is it to slip on some clothes? You'll never see me in there like that because I reside in the cheap seats :D and rarely go out without make up on and I always get dressed.

I would agree that this is a huge no-no! We had a thread about this last year, though, and some felt it was perfectlly okay if one was just scooting in for coffee and goodies ... but not to stay and sit a spell:).

Did a quick check and sure enough: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=684995&highlight=neptune+lounge+robes

But from my perspective, you do not leave your cabin in a robe for any reason whatsoever (with the exception of an emergency call to man the lifeboats!!!;)).

A cover-up to the pool is fine, but even there I think the robes, no matter how much they cover, are strictly for in-suite/cabin use.

This works for me!!! We stay concierge in some resorts. We would NEVER consider leaving our room to even 'pop in' to the concierge lounge in our robes. Ship/resort/hotel public areas aren't our private living space. Robes in public areas are one of my peeves. Then our our recent cruise I saw 'towel lady' on the stairs one day. I don't know what she wore under her towel - and I don't want to do so. Now I've added towels to inappropriate wear outside of one's cabin - short of an emergency call to man the lifeboats.

Not me, Not Us. :D

Won't see us in Neptune Lounge in Robes. ;) :D Not ever!

But sail -- you posted this last year on this thread:

It could have been my DH you saw in Neptune Lounge in his robe. Our cabin is almost always right across from Neptune Lounge and sometimes he pops in to pick us up a cup of coffee. I don't imagine he is there more than 2 minutes and he's out the door.

I posted this here on this board in the past and many people said they saw nothing wrong with this.....as long as it's a quick in, get the coffee and gone.

When he returns with my steaming hot coffee and I'm still opening my eyes for the first time that day...... I love it!

With all of the pull-on pants and tops or pull-over dresses in the casual sections of stores I can't imagine why anyone, man or woman, would feel it necessary to wear bathrobes in the public areas on the ships. Makes you wonder what they wear when they walk to the corner store for coffee and a newspaper in the morning.

I usually don't bother with make-up when I bop up to the Lido for that first cup of coffee but I slip on a pullover dress and comb my hair at least.

On the Statendam Oct 30-Nov13 Panama cruise people were wearing their robes in the Lido for breakfast. I f that doesn't just want one to HURL Also using them for bathing suit coverups.

Here's the best Volendam Alaska cruise in August wearing slippers, long nightie, robe and a ski jacket, looking at the Glacier. I think they just rolled out of bed, and forgot to comb their hair.

The common excuse you read about when people do these absurd things (wear bathrobes ..or towels..in public areas): "It's MY vacation!!! I'll do as I please!!!" Same excuse they'll use to not dress up..at least a little!..for "formal nights". Or will wear jeans to dinner (can someone explain to me what "nice" jeans, are? I wear jeans whenever I think it's appropriate..even new jeans..but I wouldn't call them "nice" enough for dinner...)

I'd never wear a bathrobe in public. Or a swimsuit into the buffet area. Or slippers on my feet (saw this more than once on our last cruise, too.)

Manners or appropriateness seem to escape some people's consciousness!!

I'll never forget images of older (thin)woman in curlers and sheer peignoir set racing into Lido line or giant man in HAL robe that barely covered him with equally large wife ditto for outfit at pool area at breakfast. Scary. Please cover up folks! (and comb hair, shave, brush teeth, put makeup on or whatever else it takes to go public)! I don't mind the folks going for coffee in the come as you are outfit, but if you linger longer, please dress.

Fortunately, I have never seen bathrobes in the Neptune as we are never up that early.

However, can we please add ... bathing suits?! I have seen bathing suits in the Neptune with cover-ups that didn't cover up so much, if you know what I mean.

When we stay club level at our favorite hotel, there is a dress code there. It specifically states that bathrobes and slippers are not appropriate dress wear for the club lounge and that all bathing suits must be covered. Sometimes wish the NL would go there.

And P.S.: Pajamas in a public place? Not so cute after you're in middle school. What is so hard about getting dressed?

On our last cruise on the last formal night there was a man at a nearby table in the MDR wearing his robe and a grass hat. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why someone would do such a thing.

The dining room manager or the area captains should have definitely said something to this man -- even escorted him out of the dining room.

I have seen people wearing bathing suites in the Neptune Lounge as well -- and not much of a cover-up.

Have also witnessed people in the Lido wearing bathing suites and NO cover-up.

A few years ago when we had the suite buffet in the Crow's Nest, one woman wore a bathing suite to the affair -- and a skimpy cover-up -- and this woman was in her 70's and really shouldn't even have worn a bathing suite.

Did I misunderstand you? Are you saying women in their 70's should never wear a bathing suit even if they are in the pool? Not arguing with you but that statement if true is not fair to us over 70. I wear a suit when I go into the pool at the gym. If I didn't, oh my. Maybe what you were saying and I misread is that she should not have had a bathing suit on in this place, that would make more sense.;) Barb

My usual reply to this - in Europe, many people do wear robes around hotels for breakfast and to spas. Not unusual.

Anyway, there is nothing wrong with a robe properly fastened on the right body:D:D You wouldn't be complaining if it were Sharon Stone lol;)

I will certainly pop-in to a CL in a robe to pick-up some coffees etc. But I am European. What other people wear doesn't affect me in the least. I would prefer a nice clean robe to some of the yucky shorts, T-shirts and other sloppy ancient gear seen around the ships........not to mention SPEEDOS on those who shouldn't be wearing them. But I just ignore it - not my business what other people wear batman-bathrobe.jpg stockphotopro_90354042FDQ_no_title.jpg

HeatherinFlorida beat you to the quote, by the way, and I responded earlier in the thread.

PAY UP...... You owe me $50.00. :)

I'll be happy for a nice bottle of wine.

Do you honor your bets, DizzyDallas? You don't know me well enough to have made such a bet. It was a sure loser......

But you did make the bet so.........
