Smoke Fan Posted December 13, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2009 Welcome back - hope you enjoyed your cruise. Who was the Captain's Club hostess onboard? With the exception of Solstice, Century is our favorite ship. Patty
DocJohnB Posted December 14, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 14, 2009 He was a host. His name was Shandru (sp?). Did a fantastic job. BTW, the Cruise Critic Cruise Connections featured something I have never seen or had on any other ship or line. Complimentary drinks. Bloody Mary's, Mimosa and I believe wine. Another thing that was new for Captain's club (and it may have been itinerary driven) was a buffet luncheon with the Captain and Senior officers for Select and Elite members. This was held over two days. Quite a super event. I say itinerary driven because I don't think it could be done on other than a transatlantic (repositioning) cruise with a lot of sea days. cruiseacecat Posted December 14, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Hi, The new CC host was Chandru Advani, who worked so hard with all the CC members on board. I believe it was 700! Very nice and very helpful. And probably very tired right now. Anne
Holly2 Posted December 14, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Would you recommend any of the entertainment? Wonder if they are staying.
hylasgirl Posted December 14, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 14, 2009 WOW on the CC get together. That would be a welcome change. I have quit going because they have been so lame. We have put together out own parties on the last few cruises. I hope they keep doing that.
ehrlichpuppy Posted December 14, 2009 #7 Share Posted December 14, 2009 Unfortunatly, our cruise (leaving Jan 23) is too short for a Connections party. Some of the people on our cruise are planning our own. How was the ship- the last time I was on her was before they made the changes. How was your waiter? Would you recommend him/her? Smoke Fan Posted December 14, 2009 #8 Share Posted December 14, 2009 The Cruise Connections party sounds wonderful! In the past, I believe that they only offered coffee and juice, and they were usually pretty boring. A Captain's Club Host? Very interesting, I think that's another first for Celebrity. It's nice to see so many changes coming from Celebrity. Patty

It's nice to see so many changes coming from Celebrity. Patty I am not sure if this is a new feature for Celebrity/Cruise Connections or if it was for this particular voyage. It could have been because of the large number of sign-ups (100+) or because it was a transatlantic. Would like to hear about what the Summit folks received. kwokpot Posted December 17, 2009 #10 Share Posted December 17, 2009 How is the gym on the Century? Enough elipticals and treadmills? Are there good strength training machines? Also, how is the spa locker room setup? Is there a sauna in the Men's locker room area that is free to use besides the Persian Garden? Just came off the Solstice, and while the ship is gorgeous, the Men's locker room for the gym/spa was the most pitiful thing I have ever seen. Carnival ships that are 20 yrs old have better locker rooms than the Solstice....

Carnival ships that are 20 yrs old have better locker rooms than the Solstice.... There certainly appeared to be enough elliptical machines, treadmills and good strength training machines. They all had plenty of use during the t/a. There is indeed a sauna in the men's locker room (and I would assume the ladies as well). There were not a whole lot of lockers in the locker room (20 at most).
DocJohnB Posted December 17, 2009 #13 Share Posted December 17, 2009 I am trying to find out if there was duplicate bridge. Does anyone know? Thanks. Okay, this is not my card game of choice :D, however during the day when I would walk through this area, there were many tables of 4 individuals with cards in their hands bidding (weird stuff . . . not like pinochle :D). Seriously there were dedicated bridge games going on . . . . I just have no idea of what kind.

What I really want to know is whether or not there was a bridge director. Hopefully, one of the posters will know.
Dick in Falls Church Posted December 17, 2009 #15 Share Posted December 17, 2009 There was no bridge director. So, according to the grumbles I heard, no-one could get points.

Thank you, Dick, for the info. Sometimes, the points never materialize anyway! But without a director, I don't know what kind of bridge was available. Also, that meant there were no bridge lessons in the morning. A full week at sea, no bridge. What is there to do besides read books? We don't go to the casino and we don't like trivia or bingo. What is there to do besides read books? We don't go to the casino and we don't like trivia or bingo.[/quote'] I think everyone kept pretty busy while at sea. Some were planned by the CC members on the roll call. Examples, gift exchange and slot pull (even those that don't normally go to the casino invested $15 for a minus $9 return :D). Several of us went to the casual dinner one night on a "give your waiter a night off" night. There were 1 to 2 lecturers every day (free). The subjects covered the geology of the Atlantic (plate tectonics, volcanos, ...) as well as very explorers that crossed the Atlantic starting with Columbus (that was the first lecture, not necessarily the chronological time). There were also several ship tours (bridge, control room, galley). I am not exactly sure how those were divvied up - I think it was Captains Club only but I think many (at least Select+) were invited. There were a LOT of Captains Club members at Select+ on this cruise (I heard 500-600 which means 1/3 of the passengers). There was a lot of other stuff going on so you could choose how busy you wanted to be - or just sit out and read a book.

Now, having free booze at the CC gatherings is definitely a new thing;) Oh, are you sailing on Century for 5 nights in May?

It's nice to see so many changes coming from Celebrity. Patty I wouldn't hold my breath on this happening on all cruises. We had some fairly unique (bad word, means never happened before - make it extraordinary) circumstances. The connections party needed a little prodding to get set up, we had a pretty screwy itinerary - two port days before the first sea day. And we bribed the Captain and Captains Club director:D. Coffee cup and bumper sticker (I don't think he had it put on the back of Century :(). Get a good roll call going with enthusiastic participants and good things happen.
