Is this really the place to be on Christmas Eve?

Another Jew here - I love Christmas! I get to enjoy the music and the decorations but I don't have to worry about the madness of shopping.

I actually feel relieved to be Jewish at this time of year.

So I will do what all of my people in NYC do tomorrow - go out for Chinese food.

Who even knew there were Jews in New York? :p

Can you tell me if it's hard for a non Christian at this time of year with all of the Christmas stuff or no?

I don't know if that came out right but I hope you know what I mean.

No Nunu... I don't find it hard at all, in fact, I love Christmas. I listen to the radio station that plays 24/7 Christmas music, check out all the lights (and think of what their electric bill is going to be like!!) and I especially love getting to take advantage of the Christmas sales!!! (that must be the Jewish in me!!!)

And yes, it came out fine... I love explaining to people that I don't celebrate Christmas and even more so, explaining all about my Chanukah :)

Almost same here for us ducksoupforme... We have done the flea market every year Christmas Day for the past 5 years and then on to the Chinese Restaurant for dinner... BUT... this year I found a Jewish Deli that is going to be open so I'm going to try and convince the family to change "tradition"!!!

Great idea! Chinese food sounds so good.

Last few years we have had slightly but different but new tradition for Christmas dinner. Shrimp & pork fried rice, miso soup, salad & dessert. A regular dinner, nothing special my Mom would have made, but since losing her that sort of dinner couldn't be more special now.

It kind of sucks when everything is closed for Christmas Day, but other than that I really enjoy all the music, decorations, and I guess just the spirit in general.

I graduated from college last year, and I was pretty much the only one of my friends and roommates that wasn't Christian, so for four years I got to have a christmas tree, decorate the apartment, and celebrate an early christmas with my buddies... This year I'm kind of sad I don't get to do it! I do have a bit of Christmas envy LOL. :p

Haha we got our chinese food tonight... and we have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow! We were going to go to catch a movie too, but the ones we want to see don't come out until tomorrow so we might go to a double feature in the afternoon and watch something at home tonight. There seems to be a lot of restaurants open on Christmas Day here (besides chinese) so maybe we will have a nice dinner out or something.

On my thirty minute dinner break. Then back to patient care in the ER: three traumas, six heart patients, many assorted other problems. It is Christmas Eve and our 50 bed ER is full. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and good health in the new year.

i think you are doing the greatest thing of all this christmas by taking care of others who are sick and need attention in their time of need. i take my hat off too you. :)

Just like the family at the end of "A Christmas Story." I'm watching that right now and it's almost to the end when the dogs eat the turkey and they got out to eat. I did some shopping this morning, then came home and baked pies. We went out for dinner and then came home to relax and watch Christmas movies. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

Everything's wrapped and lit up (except me). For the first time ever, we will be celebrating on Saturday since my son is in the food industry (supplying all your sour cream, whipped cream and milk today) and he has Saturday off.

Went to Candlelight service tonight (Thank you God for your unspeakable gift of your Son). When Santa comes in the morning, we will have a leisurely breakfast and go to the movies. Then I'll make the cornbread for the stuffing on Saturday. Having turkey and ham (couldn't decide) and picked up two dozen tamales (this is Arizona, after all).

Relaxing and hoping that all my friends on CC, whether Christian, Jewish or of their own beliefs, have a wonderful and Blessed Holy Day Season.

Wow, Lots of interresting things going on.

Well, I work in a hospital, so for the last 15 years or so,

I have probably worked more Christmas's than I have been off.

To the ones working, I definitely know how it is.

My parents have been gone for a few years now, so as far as family it is

just me and my brother.(each with wife and kids) They do Christmas with his wifes family on Christmas eve and their family Christmas day.

My wifes family is in Pennsylvania, so she gets gloomy at this time of year.

We just have a small Christmas things here, my son and her daughter, son in law, and baby will be here.

We will do the presents thing and dinner tomorrow. I work 7am-11pm Sat.

so Sunday we will all get together with my brother at his house.

I can tell you one thing...I have been busy since I started this thread.

I had problems with the turkey fryer burner, or at least I might.?? I didn't hear any gas, so I had to take an old regulator and hook it up to the new

burner..it worked, but I still didn't hear any gas..my wife says I just can't hear..she might be right. (Digging through the shed with a flashlight took a while) I got everything all cleaned up and ready to go.

Now, just get the turkey ready, chop some veggies and get back here for another break.

nunu..step away from the porn...Big Brother might be watching.unless you are your own boss, if so have fun:D

Oh, she gave me a present 2-way Radios for the cruise.;)

I told her it makes people mad when others use them:rolleyes:

We live in Alabama and all of our family is in Ohio. I baked a ham, made scalloped potatoes and baked beans, just like when I used to have a house full of people. It was good too! I do miss my family, we may go home next year, haven't been back for Christmas since 2002.

My husband is asleep in his chair, "The Christmas Story" is on TV and I am just surfing the web. We might go to a movie tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great Christmas and may all your wishes come true.

I'm here since our Christmas plans were cancelled at the last minute. :( Thought I'd check in here and dream of a cruise.

We were supposed to go out of town to my in-laws today and then spend the weekend with my family but are due for a major ice storm here tonight and tomorrow. We could have beaten the storm out of town but have two elderly cats that require twice a day feedings and medication so we couldn't take the chance our pet sitters would not be able to get here in the ice if things are bad tomorrow.

It can be. Honestly, for me the biggest frustration is everyone assuming I'm Christian. I don't feel like explaining (over and over) to people that I barely know that I don't celebrate Christmas. It isn't an issue of people wishing me a Merry Christmas. That doesn't bother me. It's the questions....What are you doing for Christmas? Are you ready for Santa (yes even as an adult, I get asked this question)? Are you excited for the holidays? I have all these sarcastic answers in my head but I would never say them because people mean well.

I know completely where you are coming from. I "celebrate" Christmas only as a time to be with my family and more as a cultural tradition. I deal with it better than my husband - he sometimes gets really frustrated this time of year since everyone just assumes you are Christian. I usually play along and don't explain rather than get into the 20 questions game on religion and people making judgments when I answer. "So, you're Jewish?" No, not Jewish. "Are you an atheist?" No, not an atheist. "What are you then?"

I am never bothered by people wishing me Merry Christmas. Words of kindness should never offend. I usually smile and say "thank you." People would probably be really confused if I stared wishing everyone a Happy Solstice. I don't really like explaining that kind of thing to strangers since my faith is very personal to me.

Love "A Christmas Story"! DH grew up in Cleveland, and we love the scenes of the Terminal Tower and Public Square. Had to explain to our kids that once there really was a Higbee's Department Store in that very place. The movie is on the TV right now, the presents are wrapped, and I'm just waiting for DH and middle son to come home from Mass (I went to the kids' Mass with the youngest son:eek:). Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all CCers!:)

I am so thankful that people like you who chose the profession you are in to be there no matter what day it is to help mankind. I am thankful and your sacrifice is admirable. I hope to stay well enough to go on my cruise on the 24th of January, my 41st wedding anniversary. We have so much to be thankful for....thank you again.

Tonite I am at work doing private duty in one of Atl's area hospitals. It's my holiday to work. Went home to Jersey to see my mom, bro, sis-in-law and niece for Thanksgiving. My boyfriend is in another Atl area hospital in need of surgery to repair a busted eardrum. Merry Christmas and Happy Holy days to all.

I really wish we could have been on the cruise we had booked for this week. We Should be on the Dream on the way to Rotan and Belize. With warm water and warm a breeze while snorkeling in the clear waters. Now we have to settle for the Spirt and Mexican Baja in March

Merry Christams eveyone.. I'm spending Chistams here in the dessert, typing this to all. My hat is off to those that work during seasons being out in the front being vigilent, or on the frontlines or taking care of others during the holiday seasons.

I have been a Police Officer and now I am in the Military and I understand the lifestyle some years I feel empty but I am reminded by a photo or a person who needs help of what my purpose is and the role I am performing in life. I do not regret it at all I consider myself Blesses and fortunate.

Spoke with DW over the phone a couple of hours a ago and all is fine.

I'm up in the middle of the night. Tending to chores that have kept me awake. Not a big Christmas celebration here, our kids and grandkids are all hundreds and thousands of miles away. We will have a small dinner here, just DH and my SIL who will have a hard time with us going away tomorrow.

My dreams are of us sailing on the Dream tomorrow - Christmas, birthdays, and anniversary all rolled into one big smile. A week to forget our cares and celebrate getting through an extremely difficult year.

I hope all with bad weather are able to get where they want to be.

My thanks tonight to our military folks who are far from home. DH is retired Navy, we know what that feels like. Merry Christmas all!
