Is this really the place to be on Christmas Eve?

I have been here off and on, during the early evening. Taking a break now and then.

Lot's to do around the house before the "Big" Day. I have crumbled up the cornbread

for the dressing. I am about to go clean out the turkey pot so it will be ready to fry a

turkey tomorrow. Then chop up onions and celery.

I already made some peanut butter fudge, my sons special request.

Oh..I have to get the turkey ready..inject it and season it.

Almost forgot that!!

If you are on here tonight, are you doing any Christmas stuff ?

I'm off to work for a few hours, just like last year! I manage a movie theatre, so I'm going in to screen "Sherlock Holmes" before it open's tomorrow.

I remember coming on her last year after I had screened "Bedtime Stories" on Christmas eve. It's starting to become a tradition.

But I'll be home around 930 to tuck the kids in to bed before I get in to bed cause you know, Santa won't come if you are awake ;):D

We didn't do the Xmas thang this year. It's kinda liberating not to feel as though we had to decorate and go all out for what? I'm doing the usual prime rib dinner, practicing for the real thang in about 30 days. Drinking some libations, listening to Xmas music, and forget about the world for a couple of days. Life in good and this is a good place to be. Family will be here Saturday and that's what it's all about, being with family and enjoying each others company. ;)

We're Jewish so we've already had our holiday, but I will tell you that in past years I've been here and its oh sooooooooo lonely :(

I wish everyone who celebrates A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS....

Can you tell me if it's hard for a non Christian at this time of year with all of the Christmas stuff or no?

I'm on here and we do the full blown Christmas thing, on Christmas eve . . . .we've had brunch with the family, had Santa come (have to do it in the afternoon of Christmas Eve day so that all the kids can be here), went to church and then to dinner, stopped for ice cream and now home doing a bit of laundry and checking cruisecritic for any additions to my roll call or fun updates on the Carnival board. I'm super busy today and the house is a wreck, but with a cruise on the Carnival Splendor in just 23 days, I can't stay away.

Merry Christmas to all!

Nunu: I know exactly what you are asking. I have asked the same question many times. Let me tell you: I am, at least in practice if not in devout belief, a Christian. And most years of the past 13 I have been stuck in Washington, D.C. because of work. (My own choice. I could have arranged other plans, at least some years.)

So I would argue that a) it can be very, very hard for Chriatians at this time of year!!! and b) I can imagine that others, particularly Americans who are of Jewish faith, can feel a sense of displacement.

Now: all this being said, I am flying to Miami on Saturday and going on a back-to-back cruise that begins Monday, so I am not crying in my beer!!! :)

Get to celebrate 16th anniv w/DH Jan 8th while he is here thawing out from 20-below. Margaret is pie-ing and sweet potato-ing. We both did some giving back this year. Merry Christmas to all..and to all, a good night..I'm sooooo lucky

It can be. Honestly, for me the biggest frustration is everyone assuming I'm Christian. I don't feel like explaining (over and over) to people that I barely know that I don't celebrate Christmas. It isn't an issue of people wishing me a Merry Christmas. That doesn't bother me. It's the questions....What are you doing for Christmas? Are you ready for Santa (yes even as an adult, I get asked this question)? Are you excited for the holidays? I have all these sarcastic answers in my head but I would never say them because people mean well.

We put half the turkey and half the dressing from Thanksgiving in the freezer so at Christmas only have to snap the beans, cook the sweet potatoes and that kind of thing.

All the presents are under the tree for the morning. Most are for my sister, because she is like a small kid ... quantity over quality, she loves getting lots of stuff.

I guess we cheat at Christmas on the cooking, saving half from Thanksgiving, but it works for our family. We do the traditional thing.

Merry Christmas to all ... or Happy Holidays or whatever you are celebrating.

On my thirty minute dinner break. Then back to patient care in the ER: three traumas, six heart patients, many assorted other problems. It is Christmas Eve and our 50 bed ER is full. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and good health in the new year.

I am at work, it is SLOW, most people opt to come in for their procedures on a different day. Or avoid the holidays altogether. Get off work a little before midnight. Will drop off presents to a friend who is having a late night gathering / people dropping by after midnight mass.

The tree is up, the lights are up, I have been on my feet in the kitchen all day making cookies and cornbread (for dinner) and this and that and if I don't sit down with my feet up for a bit I shall topple over. When I put in twice the sugar and forgot the eggs (I think) in the cornbread I realized that anything else will simply have to wait until another time. Oh yes, also went to my office for a couple of hours, did the last minute food shopping (stuff I forgot) and made two batches of homemade ice cream. Still have some wrapping to finish and then bed. So I deserve a flopdown and thought I'd see what was up here.

I'm at work so it's ths or online porn.

This got a laugh out of me. Thank you I really needed that. This is my 2nd day back at work since my little stint in the ER then a couple of weeks of taking it easy. I guess I was sitting here feeling a little sorry for myself and it felt good to laugh. BTW...My family are JW's and even though I don't attend anymore I never picked up the celebration of holidays. I however, love holiday movies and music for some reason and I love this time of the year.

Another Jew here - I love Christmas! I get to enjoy the music and the decorations but I don't have to worry about the madness of shopping.

I actually feel relieved to be Jewish at this time of year.

So I will do what all of my people in NYC do tomorrow - go out for Chinese food.
