Mickey78R Posted December 29, 2009 #26 Share Posted December 29, 2009 Ok, after reading this, I emailed my TA. We are on the Emerald 2/28. I have my fingers crossed. That would be such a nice bonus.

Mickey78R Posted December 29, 2009 #28 Share Posted December 29, 2009 Will be getting a $255 credit on the Emerald 2/28. Woo hoo! Hey RealDeal - We are also on this cruise. A group of 16 maybe 20. So if there was a price drop of $150, how come you only got $255? Also, is that pp or cabin.? My TA quoted me for folks that have interior rooms that they are saving $183 pp. She said she still had to do our balconies. I spoke with her on my lunch and haven't heard back from her yet on how much balconies will get back. Our balconies are also BB. I am just so excited to hear. It is like Christmas morning! Oh, and how were you told that you would get your monies back? SBC or refund? If refund, when will you get it? Thanks and Congrats!
caribill Posted December 29, 2009 #29 Share Posted December 29, 2009 Let's see if I have got this correct. If a cruise is not full, in order to fill it up and increase their revenue the cruise line reduces it's price to encourage new customers to book. Then they promptly give away all the extra revenue by offering the same discount to existing bookings. Is that how it works? Yes, but the secret to still making a profit is that the rebate to existing customers is only given if the cusomers discover the price reduction and then ask for it. Not every customer checks the price after final payment, so it probably is that 80% or more of the already booked customers have no idea they could get a lower price. Plus, every additional customer onboard normally leads to increased income from shore excursions, casino, photo sales, beverage sales, etc. And the price reductions discussed here are unusual as normally almost all price reductions after final payment are "flash" promotions for new bookings only.
