Emerald New Years Snooze

I was just on the Emerald on January 17th and I thought the food was rather good. There certainly was a lot of choices and we even ordered a few things off the menu. BUT (and this is a huge BUT) I found the service very disappointing on the ship (see my review: http://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=62638). My experience on this Princess ship was disappointing enough for me to cancel plans on the Ocean Princess this fall in favor of choosing another cruise line. Anyone have any suggestions?

A few thoughts on your review.......

  • Princess has never done towel animals.....even prior to the auto tip policy. Sometimes room stewards will do them but it is not a common practice.
  • The shows are normally performed over two nights to deal with the crowding situation in the showroom. But maybe they didn't do this on the Emerald? And they are not supposed to let people sit on the steps. Someone was not doing their job.
  • There are staff members in the gym but lately I find that they are either teaching classes or doing one of the seminars. I agree that leaves the gym unattended and that could definitely be an issue.
  • Normally there are staff members out in the casino to help with the slot machines. I agree that you would think they would want to help you!!
  • With the excursions, you can read about them online and they will give you basic information about mobility requirements. You could have always signed up for an excursion online and then canceled once onboard if you found out there was a mobility issue.

I am very sorry you had a bad experience. I wish you the best on your next cruise.

We were on Emerald in Sept and thoroughly enjoyed our food whether in the dining room

or the buffet. I believe the medium priced lines, Carnival, RCCL, HAL and Princess have

lowered the quality of food below what it was in the past to avoid raising the cruise

rates sky high. They do, however, do a wonderful job with what they have. Princess

and Carnival pretty much have the best menus and food in my opinion.

I've never had a service problem on any cruise line, which includes most of them.

We have to keep in mind that there are several thousand pax to keep happy, and

most of us couldn't keep up with the hours these people work. And they do it with a

smile.

Remember the old adage.....the grass is always greener........NOT!!!

We love the food in the Cafe caribe and the International Cafe!

Can always find something to do on board.

But as others have said to each his own:)

hope you find a cruise line you like.

Just back from the Emerald Princess last week. What a great cruise. Never had a problem finding something to do, sometimes too much to do. Food has gone down some from our last cruise, but could still finds lots that we loved. Explorers lounge and skywalkers where great.

We have just returned from our first and last Princess cruise.

The ship was beautiful' date=' but the service was marginal and the food horrible. I never patronize the buffet, but that was the only edible food and even then, only selected dishes.. Even the world record nasty food on NCL was superior. We were a group of ten who all agreed, so it's not just me.[/quote']

Oh horrors

:eek::eek:

I am boarding Sunday. Do you think it is too late to cancel.

Time to put on your big girl panties and man up, Mike. Deal with it.

How's that for mixing metaphors? :)

Have a great trip!

Truer words were never spoken.;)

And we have no fears about having a great cruise, trust me.

This will be our first cruise on anything larger than a grand class vessel.

Thanks

Mike:)

I find myself trying very hard not to question the credibility of the OP. However, when blanket asserations are made that all the food was bad, all the activities were boring and all the service was sloppy I begin to wonder.

Such blanket statements strech the limits of credibility and it makes me me suspect that the OP has an agenda or was born with a chip on the shoulder.

I for one, would like to hear specifics.

Me too...

We sailed Emerald last Spring and found it "relaxing". DH and I both felt very relaxed and at peace during this cruise. We found the service to be wonderful, and the food was delicious and attractively presented.

As stated by others, Princess is not for everyone. No one cruise line will meet everyone's needs; so glad there are so many to choose from. :)

Befuddled, awaiting clarification from OP. Completely uncertain as to what the expectations were for the adults. Escape COMPLETELY....no bowling, no fake rock walls, no ice skating= RELAX in my book, but that is not for everyone. Would like to hear what their specific expecations i.e. onboard activities for adults were that were not met.

Do you people have no mercy??

I am going to have to endure a week of this beginning Sunday.

Maybe I can make some sandwiches to take onboard before leaving home.

Mike:)

You poor thing. Let us know where you're staying pre-cruise and we can send you a care package to your hotel, because I'm thinking you'll need your luggage space not for sandwiches but to pack things to keep you entertained during this incredibly boring seven-day ordeal. Good luck. . . .

I am living on the edge this time and flying in tomorrow morning.

We don't usually do that but a few months ago I discovered that Embassy Suites wanted $475 for a room due to the super bowl being in Miami.

We don't anticipate any problems though since the weather is greatly improved today and even better tomorrow.

That is awful kind of you Rob; but I am going to risk an attempt to gain entry to the Da Vinci dining room for a very sedate lunch shortly after boarding and a quick trip to Publix for some diet tonic water.

You guys are too much.

Be thankful you have to endure such misery for only a week-it could be worse. You could have booked a longer cruise and had more suffering to complain about! :D:eek:
