Shiraz49 Posted January 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2010 I've heard or 'Road Rage' but this is a new one to me ..... AND reinforces why I prefer cruising ex more exotic locations than our local waters although we are booked on a 6th Feb NZ cruise ....... had to squeeze one in somewhere:D Extracts, direct quotes ....... There was the regular Chinese whispers about laundry rage and fights and people being escorted off the ship in Darwin, but again we saw no evidence of that. and the other one .... The laundrymat was dangerous. Alot of fights in there. Go in there at your own risk. Never seen anything like it. I've steered clear of P&O sailings because of the 'Ugly Aussie' tradition of drinking till you burst, this only reinforces that some people just can't seem to relax and unwind or to be patient and tolerant in crowed situations...do they have an it's all about me attitude or some other problem ????? Anyway who in their right mind would want to use the laundry on a cruise, we've always managed with a quick rinse of essentials in the cabin;)

barnsey1802 Posted January 11, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2010 As much as I would have liked to avoid the laundry, I went twice on my recent cruise. we have 2 kids, so it was unavoidable. I was lucky enough not to encounter any "laundry Rage", but here's my take on laundry behaviour. You can take my washing out of the machine if it's finished and I'm not there, but don't open my dryer and not press the button to start it again. I hate coming back to a dryer that's open & my clothes are still wet. Deidre.
Shiraz49 Posted January 12, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted January 12, 2010 we have 2 kids, so it was unavoidable. Hadn't thought of that aspect, ours have flown the coup and we generally cruise outside normal holiday periods when there are children onboard. aussie57 Posted January 12, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2010 You can avoid laundry rage by staying until your laundry's done. Take your book in there & just wait so you can supervise your own stuff. I've met some lovely people in the laundromats on P&O by doing that, as well as chatting when ironing. MargnGrah Posted January 12, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2010 The best thing to avoid any rage being directed at you is not to leave your clothes while they are in the machine, or at least make sure your are there when the machine finishes, Most people seem to get angry when a machine has finished (whether it be a washing machine or dryer) and no one is there to empty it. If there is a line up of people waiting to use them, someone will take your clothes out and throw them on the floor. I have to admit I try not to use the laundry any more... don't cruise with the kids anymore.. and just do a little hand washing in the cabin, roll the wet clothes up in a beach towel and stamp on it, This will get a lot of the water out and then just hang the clothes on either a coat hanger or on my little travel clothes line.:)
Whoey Posted January 12, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2010 Our last cruise i took a book and my ipod.. its a quiet hour to yourself.. actually pretty enjoyable and yes meet lots of people! also I ALWAYS arrived with a smile and spoke to everyone friendly - offering advice on when machines will be free etc.. be helpful! diffuse people's anger.. works for me. karmac Posted January 12, 2010 #11 Share Posted January 12, 2010 as we also travel with kids, it is unavoidable. We manged to avoud the laundry on our first cruise (11 nights) but the 14 & 17 nighters were imposssible. Never had a problem with laundry rage though. didiaust Posted January 12, 2010 #12 Share Posted January 12, 2010 I don't use the ships laundry - I get my washing done ashore. Good laundry in Villa - Have had it done in Luganville too This trip getting it done in either Suva or Lautoka. Drop it off and pick it up all nicely folded Di

Hey, you guys, does this sort of thing really, really happen? I mean....laundry rage? What's the cause, does anyone know? Personally, I hate laundry and would never consider it on a ship...but I know folks do but I've never heard of this "condition".... Can anyone enlighten this yank???? CassCruise Posted January 12, 2010 #16 Share Posted January 12, 2010 It absolutely for real does happen - we came across it on our 30 night cruise on the Sun Princess - I found it amusing (but then again DH was charged with the going forth and doing!!!:D:rolleyes:) from barricaded doors to lists that were being ignored and then security called honestly was like a soap opera!!! We tried to do as much handwashing as possible but every now and then DH needed to make the dreaded trip! I think when you have a long voyage with few machines and then one or two out of order.... I found it ironic - most places onboard everyone is happy and chatty - go near the laundry and watch the sparks - having said that you would come across the odd group - part. late in the afternoon having laundry parties complete with wine, cheese and crackers!!!! bluediamonds Posted January 12, 2010 #17 Share Posted January 12, 2010 We pack enough cloths and under wear for the whole cruise the only things we would rince would be swim wear, if we fly cruise we send our luggage air frieght and collect if when we arrive there, cheaper them taking it on the fight you are on. When we cruise we dont want to be doing washing and ironing, my wife would not do it and I would not ask her to we are there to have a brake from all of that and thats what we pay for. pss. we never wear the same thing twice on a cruise. ps. The longest cruise so far is 14 nights.

Druke I Posted January 12, 2010 #19 Share Posted January 12, 2010 It doesn't happen only "down under". Several years ago (Mar 2001), on Regal Princess on a trip from Singapore to Beijing, two women (they were not ladies) got into a hair-pulling knock-down cat-fight in the laundry over who was next in line for a machine. They were separated, and were told by ship's personnel that any further problems would result in their being ejected from the ship at the next port. That was the only trip we regretted having a cabin near the laundry.
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted January 12, 2010 #20 Share Posted January 12, 2010 I've never seen/experienced it. Maybe it's all about attitude, but then I choose to use port days when it's not very busy. I'm very appreciative of this service provided to passengers. Nice one, Princess:) Anna
rkmw Posted January 12, 2010 #21 Share Posted January 12, 2010 when we had to do our washing we must have been lucky because we didnt have any problems but we have reached elite with princess and now they do it for us rkmw
Australian family Posted January 12, 2010 #22 Share Posted January 12, 2010 On our last cruise everybody was very polite in the laundry. I would go down early and put my washing in and then return when it was finished and use the dryer. On the Volendam there was laundry baskets and if somebodys washing was finished and the person wasn't there the next person would empty it into the basket. There was never a problem with fighting. The only problem was broken down washing machines. But I found early morning was best, sometimes the machines were all in use.
