1of5G Posted January 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2010 I remember reading about a list of things you could get for free at the pursers desk simply by asking. (postcards, playing cards, etc.) With all the cutbacks, does anyone know what they still do this? What items do they give away?
afcj1 Posted January 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2010 Was still able to get a deck of cards in Dec.
1of5G Posted January 29, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted January 29, 2010 That's one of the items I was going to ask for!
vetpath09 Posted January 29, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2010 On the legend I got 2 decks of playing cards. Used one of them while on the cruise playing cribbage while eating sushi.:) We also left our passports with them and they had them stamped at all of our stops. We had made copies ahead of time and kept them in our safe.
CMM Posted January 29, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 29, 2010 On our 11/22 Legend cruise we got decks of cards for free and they also had a rack with extra capers and postcards of the ship that you could help yourself to. I collect pens, so was happy to find a really nice carnival ballpoint pen in the cabin. The casino will give you a free spring coil with clip that has the carnival logo on it that makes a nice lanyard for your ss card.
Traveler353 Posted January 29, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2010 Playing cards, post cards and stationary, ink pens, some get their S&S cards punched there, and information.

slyster Posted January 29, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 29, 2010 really? playing cards? is this standard on all the ships? I was going to rummage through my things to find a deck of cards, but if the ship provides them, that would be great! I'll be on the Pride in a little over a week. Id hate to not be able to play because I counted on it, and they happened to run out. I get my card punched at the purser's desk to hang it around my neck. 1of5G Posted January 29, 2010 Author #12 Share Posted January 29, 2010 These are great tips. I did'nt know about the passport thing. Do you just leave them at the desk before you go into port?

canjay95 Posted January 30, 2010 #14 Share Posted January 30, 2010 We got off the Triumph yesterday and we got playing cards, postcards and the lanyard for free.
gazingm42 Posted January 30, 2010 #15 Share Posted January 30, 2010 If you can't get cards at the purser desk. Go to the casino cashier cage. They also have a free deck of cards. You can also get a few more of the carnival pens at the purser desk as well.
vetpath09 Posted January 30, 2010 #16 Share Posted January 30, 2010 For the passport, we left them at the purser desk at the beginning of the cruise (1st day at sea) and picked them up on the last day at sea. They held them all week and took care of the stamping. I definitely felt like a total newbie (which I was:D) but they seemed to not mind. I also asked for those cards and a couple of other lame questions to couch this request. We had a great time looking for the stamps. Just make sure you have photocopies in your vault/on your person before leaving them for the week. And have a great time! The Legend was an excellent boat for my first cruise!! lillian marie Posted January 30, 2010 #17 Share Posted January 30, 2010 The post cards were nicer at the Purshars desk than what I saw in the giftshop on our last cruise. They were large and great for scrapbooking.
Rosefloater Posted January 30, 2010 #18 Share Posted January 30, 2010 If you can't get cards at the purser desk. Go to the casino cashier cage. They also have a free deck of cards. Wrong. The casino charges $1 for a deck of cards. Go to the guest services desk for the cards. The earlier in the cruise, the better. FYI - Carnival has changed the picture on the cards. 1of5G Posted January 30, 2010 Author #19 Share Posted January 30, 2010 I'm gonna try the passport thing. And the postcards. I'm a scrapbooker too. I think I'll use them both on my cruise pages. I like to have the pens too because every time I pull it out of my purse, I am reminded of my cruise.

I keep it in my purse and use it very sparingly :)

I was trying to figure out where the port office was for each port so I could go get my passports stamped, but now I don't have to worry about that! So excited that they will do if for me. salty dingo Posted January 31, 2010 #25 Share Posted January 31, 2010 I've seem people getting stacks of bills at the purser's desk. I never asked anyone where the money comes from. Maybe I should ask if there is any complimentary money? It's worth a shot.
