So good to read such good news from you Tamarah.

That is a first that I've heard of offering you such a good deal and, in fact, including you in the 'deal' under your circumstances. I do hope you jump at it quickly before they change their minds. It then gives you time to think it all through and give your Dad and Partner time to fully cover, and you will all be ready to cruise again in the future having not lost a cent.

Well done to the T/A and Princess.....lets all drink to that.....cheers!

Starting to get more tempting all the time. We have managed to get the money back for our Bangkok to Syd flight, accommodation in Sydney, and tour in Bangkok. Just waiting to hear from Virgin Blue to see what they will do for us, if anything. Not too concerned as we got a good deal on flights to Syd, so if they don't help, we only miss out on a total of $185. I think I can live with that.

I can't believe that everyone has been so helpful and we will be going on a similar cruise in May and will have a mini suite, plus half our fare as on board credit. It almost sounds too good to be true. The only thing that worries me is that it appears that no one is one the ship - the roll call is almost non existent and there appear to be lots of cabins available. I still can't believe the deal as a mini suite on this cruise would cost over $16,000 - so I think it is a great deal as we wouldn't pay that for a cruise. We paid just under $6,000 inc airfares for a balcony. And even better, we get to select which mini suite we want as well!!!

I really must thank Princess, our TA (who I can't mention unfortunately), and everybody that has helped us. We really are very lucky that this happened at the right time, otherwise it could have happened during the cruise, or if the move over offer was mentioned, we could have lost over $6,000.

I really hope everthing is OK by May, but we can only do one day at a time.

Tamarah,

I share the sentiments of everyone in this thread and I wish your family well in the coming weeks and months.

However, you may like to talk to the experts before you except the deal and try and get some type of assurance that everyone will be well for the trip.

Best wishes

Ron

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your best wishes - means a lot!

I did think about talking to the doctors, but it's too hard to predict what is going to happen in 3 months. I really think we need to take it one day at a time. We are really hoping that my partner's pain should be under control in 3 months )for his sake and mine. It's really hard watching someone you love in pain.

Also, we really have nothing to lose. If we had cancelled without this moveover offer that our TA was able to get for us (I don't think you can normally request theses) we would have lost over $6,000. Now they are upgrading us to a mini suite (a dream come true - they are priced at $8,600 each at the moment - no way we would be paying that!!! Plus, they are giving us half our cruise fare as an onboard credit (so we should get around $2,000 obc) which we could never spend - they give us the money back at the end if we don't use it. We really can't see any other option that works out so well for us.

I can't believe that everyone has agreed to refund our money - they have been so nice! They only one I am waiting to hear from is Virgin Blue, but that's only for $190 for the two of us - so not too concerned. And to add to what our TA said about this meant to be, I just got an e-mail that VB is having a sale and we can get a flight to Perth, during the time we want LOL) for only $109. It all just seems to be working in our favour.

I'm not so sure about the Sun Princess, was really looking forward to the newer and bigger Diamond Princess, but this deal, and did I mention the mini suite, just seems like it was meant to be.

Thanks so much for your kind words Anna. I must admit, after reading a lot of complaints etc, it felt good to be able to pass on some very positive feedback on Princess and our TA (not that I can mention then LOL). You always hear the complaints, but there are some really nice people out there and we managed to find some of them, and they have gone that extra mile to help us.

Sorry about the health news Tamarah, but am really impressed with your subsequent offer for a cruise move. I say well scored and jump at it! The ship will fill up :)

Cheers,

Brad

I hope all goes well for your father and partner and that you enjoy your next cruise.

Thanks for your comments - it's greatly appreciated. I still can't believe how it has all worked out and that they are giving us a mini! Everyone on this board has been so nice and helpful - hopefully I'll get to meet some of you on a future cruise!!! There's quite a few spare cabins on our cruise LOL!!! Come and keep us company!

I just wanted to thank everyone who read my manic threads and assisted me. I really appreciate all your help and support through a difficult time.

We have finally decided on our mini suite (still keep pinching myself that they are giving us a mini as it's a huge price jump from what we had booked on Diamond. We have selected B755 which is an AB Aft mini suite (I really like typing mini suite). We are so excited. Now we have just over 3 months to get dad and my OH well. We are getting there, it's just one day at a time.

Thanks once again for everything. This forum has helped me greatly and has proved to be great company while my OH is sleeping. Certainly kept my mind focused on something to look forward to.

Thanks everyone!

I've been following this thread with some interest, and I'm so pleased that everything has worked out so well for you! Last year we had to cancel our cruise 14 days before sailing when my husband broke his ankle. P&O were very sympathetic, but didn't offer us anything. Mind you, I didn't expect them too. Luckily insurance covered everything anyway!

It's just fantastic how everything has turned out for you. I know how stressful these things can be. Now you can concentrate on you father and your partner. Have a wonderful time when your cruise finally comes, and make the most of your mini suite. :D:D

Thanks so much croydonCruiser. You can never tell when something is going to happen can you. We did have TI, but with my dad I think that it would have been very hard to get them to pay up as he has so many pre exisiting conditions.

We are just really luckly that the day before we made the final decision to cancel, someone on our roll call mentioned that they had been offered a move-over as they wanted our balcony cabins. Under normal circumstances, I don't think they would have helped us either (I guess they really have to draw the line somewhere). I didn't think that you could actually request a move-over, but to be honest, I think our TA really helped secure the move over for us.

We still can't believe the offer that they made to us - it's insane. And as our TA keeps saying to us, it just seems meant to be. Under normal circumstances we would have lost everything. Just received an e-mail back from our airline VB, and they look like they are going to help us as well - just want a letter from Gary's specialist. I really didn't think everyone (hotel, airlines, tour co, TA and Princess) would have helped us so much and no one has questioned our cancelling and giving us all our money back. I still can't get over what Princess have given us. It just doesn't seem real. Giving us a AB aft mini suite, which costs over $8500 each, 50% of the fare we paid for our Diamond Princess balcony cabin - (which cost us around $2,400 each) as an onboarde credit, plus what we don't spend of the obc, they give back to us at the end of the cruise.

We would never normally pay over $16,000 for a cabin - so this really is a dream come true for us. It just felt nice to post a thread that started off badly, but the outcome has been amazing. Can't thank everyone, expecially Princess enough. It appears that our timing was perfect for one.

Now I can concentrate on getting my boys well - I've got just over 3 months. Wish luck.

Now for operation good health to come to fruition and you are away!!!!!!!
That will become my full time project - to get my two boys well. At least the cruise is a fair distance away, so hopefully the pain management/nausea should be under control by then. Thanks.

Thanks so much David - we still can't quite believe it yet! I also follow all your posts as well!!! Especially when you were posting the Diamond. I'll miss not going on her, but I'm sure a mini on Sun will be OK LOL. Will get to try the Diamond another time.

Thanks.
Tamarah - you need to change your countdown clock - You should change it to "almost cruised". I'm glad everything appears to be working out for you.
Funny that you should mention that - I was looking at it this morning and thinking I will have to change it. Great minds think alike! I wonder if I can put "almost cruised" - I like it!!!
