Is it true...smoking in cabins??

Just for reference, Celebrity's current policy, from their site:

What is your onboard smoking policy?

Subject: Ship and Stateroom Details

For all Celebrity ships, smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom or on any stateroom veranda. Cigarette smoking will only be permitted in designated indoor and outdoor areas of the ship, while cigar and pipe smoking will only be permitted in designated outdoor areas. Smoking will not be permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, hallway, elevator or corridor. Violations to this smoking policy will result in a $250 cleaning fee being charged to the guest's onboard account and may also be addressed through Celebrity Cruises' Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises cruisetour products. We appreciate your understanding and adherence.

I knew there was a reason I don't want to sail Celebrity again!

Just remember that non-smokers outnumber smokers better than 3 to 1.

Thus, for every one who will avoid Celebrity, there are three who will be more likely to sail with them.

And I hope they have a great cruise. And they don't need to worry about meeting me onboard. ;)

Wow, I love hearing that Celebrity's casino is now non-smoking. That works for me! I enjoy going to the casino on a cruise, but find I often leave before I'd like to if the smoke becomes thick. The smoking policy on NCL won't keep me away, but it does open the door to my considering X.

Mr Lee, unfortunately the world is becoming more anti-smoking and I can sympathize. I have friends and relatives who smoke and whereas I dislike the smoking I try and distinguish between smoking and smokers, who are people with feelings. I am glad there are still options to satisfy everybody. At least for now.

And... Meeting you on NCL would be a pleasure.

On the PoA you are allowed to smoke in cabins, but due to Hawaii's stringent anti-smoking laws, you are not allowed to smoke on your own balcony. (A rule that seems odd, since it is perfectly okay to smoke in your cabin while the balcony doors are open.)

I believe that there is only one public area on ship that you can smoke, and that is the Oasis Bar on the fantail.

Oddly, though, my DW and I were accosted twice by anti-smokers while we were enjoying the DOD and a smoke at the Oasis.

The server there was great, though. She zoomed right over, both times, and suggested that the anti-smokers might be happier at another bar!

No smoking, no gambling, no way I'm going to Hawaii!
